  1. I'm just laughing at how excited DW fans were that Charlie was wearing tails. Yes, that made the skating and dancing so much more wonderful, didn't it?

What the heck is Meryl doing, giving her own free leg an assist with her hand?

    1. That's not it! It's the skipping!

It's the two skippy steps after the hop.

      Where is the skating here?

    2. I'm 2:22 - I think I've gotten immune to all the skipping and hopping. That's ALL she does. Throughout the entire program in every program, besides being yanked and pulled. I started looking at other things. Lol

    3. Yeah but it means she's two footing into the spin. BAM - two toe-picks on the ice, commence 'skipping' except both feet are on the ice for that little scamper move. I don't know what's going on with her grabbing her free leg. Maybe it's a feature like when a pairs female goes into a death spiral. Probably I'll find she got +3 for it and it helps qualify the spin for level 4 (difficult entry = two foot skip into your dance spin).

  2. lmao remember when tatianna tarasova said that d/w should've won over v/m last year and she didn't even specify why? i wanna know what kind of crack she is smoking lol. just because FF isn't your style doesn't mean d/w outskated v/m last season.

    1. Do you notice that at the start of this move Meryl rotates as if she's about to do the spin off her rotational edge, but instead she turns and puts her other foot on the ice with a little hop, and then skips with both feet on the ice? Then the spin starts.

It's like a fake in football. But I bet a lot of eyes think the spin started at that little outside quarter turn. She doesn't do anything off an edge but neither does he.

He, as usual, is on two feet when he "assists her" with her preliminary quarter turn, two footed hop and skip.

Any wonder they they blow up the scoreboard for transitions.

    2. i wonder how m/c fans would feel if we go to every video of m/c and point out every time they hop or two foot skate

    3. Thats a choppy ass transition

    4. It's not using skating skills.

  3. I'm facepalming so hard at the moment.

What Meryl is doing there is not either of the things she's supposed to be. That hopping isn't dancing and it sure as hell isn't skating.

But "everyone" in the audience at Worlds last year knew DW should have won, right?

Because that's how the winners are decided. (*rolleyes*)

Thank you for all these gifs. Now I cannot watch anything from DW without facepalming and laughing. It's hilarious, every 2 seconds there's skipping, hopping, flailing, yanking. Also ugly lines and positions and two-footing everywhere. And the skating? Eh. And then they get mega scores!

Tessa and Scott have been watching this for years. I'm thinking they not only must know *exactly* what's going on and how Marina choreographs for DW, but they've been very gracious never to hint at knowing that the team touted as being equal to them is in fact getting away with crap.

I respect Tessa and Scott for continuing to improve their SKATING and dancing without lowering themselves to these non-skating, non-dancing tricks that obviously the judges have been rewarding.

  4. HAHAHA OH MY GOD I'M CRACKING UP! This is just so evident!
But, you know, DW SHOULD HAVE WON WITH DF!!! THEY ARE JUST SO MUSICALLY TALENTED AND THEY ARE SO FAST!

This is cheating. She's not getting into the spin with a clean backwards outside edge, she just hop while turning, then two foot because she hasn't enough stability on the edge, and then well, let Charlie make her rotate into the spin.
Oh and don't forget Charlie's hop and two foot before pushing that BIG EDGE!!! that's so waltzing!!!

wow, I'm glad DF never beat FF last year. It makes me a little hopeful, though Tessa and Scott have been robbed over all of these years.
I have to say I was a fan of both teams. No more.

    1. I have also to say I re-watched their step sequences of DF, and they hop 4 TIMES, in both of their sequences, exactly in the points when they can't sustain their edges. Tessa and Scott, not only underline every edge, but they hop just one time in their sequences, when they finish their moves and their rockers/turns. They have superior edge control and skating skills.

    2. I was trying to track down exactly what is required in a step sequence - I have the basics but haven't looked at the rule page(s) first hand. However, the key is to "show' the edge, do a sequence, and then you can transition to the next sequence. The sequences are pretty short.

I swear, I don't know if the process of doing this is infuriating or liberating. The idea of Davis White being scored anywhere on par with Virtue and Moir, the idea that only Virtue Moir are critiqued and that the double standard is clearly intentional - all infuriating. But the liberating part is, this exercise is showing that we're not parsing details here. This is not just not "technically equal' - it's not even technique that Davis White are showing out there. This is such out and out fraud that by itself it sets Virtue Moir apart and defines them as the best.

I'm quite positive corruption here is intentional but I'm also pretty sure that a lot of people in the figure skating world are incredibly, incredibly stupid, but never have to real world test it because the media that covers this world is just as stupid, and because the world is so self-referential.

    3. They're cheating everything. These "great element skaters" are cheating the feature that gets their twizzle sequence its level; they're don't maintain an edge at all coming out of the twizzles but they get the GOE for it, and they don't TWIZZLE in the character of the dance at any point. At all. You're supposed to TWIZZLE in the style of the dance, not shine it up before or after in order to get that GOE.

They get that GOE. They do some theatrical flourish before or they push themselves upward in place afterwards and commence cheese eating and the judges count THAT. They count all of the choreographic visual trickery and element "extensions" designed to fool you into thinking it's part of the element when the element hasn't started or is over.

Furthermore the first twizzle set is often miles wider than two arm lengths apart. You can stick another Mery/Charlie in the gap. But they get the points for close twizzles too.
