Well, this is familiar

I went to yelp to look up reviews for the Moir family's Shoeless Joes.  The place didn't come off as terribly welcoming or appealing in the way Scott promoted it last season (in contrast to the Bungalow where Tessa, the owners and chef/cook went out of their way to present themselves well and communicate they cared about the promotion and cared about our business.)

I wanted to see if it was a different story in "real life."

On the yelp page I visited, Shoeless Joes  had three reviews and two of them had to make you laugh. I have the classic  lines in italics:
We have visited this location a number of times as it is close to home and work and one thing stands out. Service needs help. It usually starts out reasonably well but as the meal wears on, wait staff vanish. One of our party left before we were able to get her bill.

On an earlier visit, one member of the party gave up on food after the waitress went missing for 25 minutes. She seemed to be in the kitchen area chatting with other staff.

Open face steak sandwich was cooked properly and a reasonable value, Ruben received positive comments as did the Pulled Pork sandwich.

Food seems to be fine but service is lacking and will make us think twice before another visit.

and
Just doesn't do it for me - Found the food a bit greasy and the staff preoccupied with other things than serving me. Typical bar food fare which can be found (less greasy) elsewhere. On the bar side, good atmosphere - Standard sports bar look/feel.

Did Scott train the staff ? "Start out full of good intentions, promise them food, then AWOL!"

  1. I'm sorry, OC, but what does a couple bad reviews for Scott's uncle's restaurant have to do with anything? Scott and Tessa don't run the joint.

    1. It's classic Moir. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Promise a lot, don't deliver, disappear. If you'd followed his fan page and their web page you'd see the connection. Apparently Scott is just being a Moir.

    2. If I remember correctly - at the opening - an article had a picture of the owners including uncle joe..but I would agree with 8:38 am - Scott doesn't own the restaurant. As someone who's family was in a restaurant business - it's up to the owners to make sure that service is up to par.

    3. The point is not the restaurant but that this is precisely how Scott ran his fan page and www.virtuemoir.com. Big gap between promise and delivery. Turns out it runs in the family.

    4. Well I think we all knew that their PR has been a problem and that it wasn't exactly a priority for either Tessa or Scott to be interactive on the web. And why haven't they signed with an agency that primarily manages skaters? I think one of the reasons is for the families to have control. As you stated, the skating is taken care of...it's an access issue.

  2. It's fine to not prioritize the web. That's not what Scott did. Instead of just that - not prioritizing the web, he'd make sweeping statements and empty promises and disappear. He'd make these sudden appearances, start "responding" to comments, tell people to watch for follow up - and not follow up.

The first part - the empty promises - was never necessary or asked for by the fans but that was his style. Make a show of something, vanish, leave fans holding the bag, as it were.

  3. This is going too far. What's the point of this post?

    1. That Scott treated fans on social media exactly how his family's restaurant treats clientele.

  4. I think people are taking this post way too seriously. I don't think the blogger is saying that it's Scott's fault that the restaurant has crappy service. It's just amusing the similarities between how his family members run the business and how his more immediate family run the sham/social media. And at the very least, it is on topic because of that hilariously awful commercial Scott did for the restaurant. It's not like these are distant relatives, they are involved and involve Scott in the restaurant.

    1. "that hilariously awful commercial Scott did for the restaurant."

Not having had first-hand experience at the restaurant, I don't want to comment on that. But that commercial was intended for a national audience, during a major event (Worlds) so it really is funny the Moir clan thought it was an acceptable way to showcase the family business. I was surprised it didn't look like the team in charge of following Tessa and Scott around London for this clip involved themselves giving suggestions/helping things come across better. Or maybe they were in awe of anything "Moir" and in the process lost their professionalism. Or maybe in fact they are all just incompetent when it comes to PR so they don't notice what to the outsider is glaring.

    2. Scott was terrible, everything about it was awful, but what was especially awful (leaving the actual restaurant out of it) was the part where Scott wanted a re-take and they left that in and ignored him.

  5. Happy father's day, Scott. I hope you can enjoy the day with your little one.

  6. Off topic from this entry, but I see that there was after all a Tessa photo shoot with the sports magazine. Someone had wondered if it was really true.

What actually interests me is that in fact, Cassandra has set herself up so it appears she is competing with Tessa, the partner of her #cutestboyfriend #fabulousstar. I don't think Scott and his gf (first Jessica, now Cassandra) are capable of doing anything that comes across classy. In every way they are tacky tacky tacky. Tessa never suffers by comparison. It's the "gf" who looks foolish, and Scott along with her for condoning all the social media crap that comes across this way.

    1. The way this all seems to be set up to "protect Tessa" makes me think Tessa is the one who sets that boundary--that she won't be mentioned in any way. The problems are obvious in the way all these years it makes them all look like idiots and totally unbelievable.

Even if they now suddenly started mentioning Tessa in ways that seemed more natural, it's too late. It would only look like a response to these kinds of criticisms and really, they've operated this way for too long for it to be erased. It's so gross.

    2. Huh. You know, that does make sense if it was a boundary set by Tessa. Scott can have the "girlfriends" but she has no part in them.

We've seen a response to this criticism before, when Connor Hilborn adjusted the caption on his photo from Worlds. Then the last time I looked at the photo, it had no caption, which is probably the smartest thing to do.

    3. I saw that on Cassandra's fb. Liking only the Scott Moir page. They are unbelieveable. Maybe they like the impression of a triangle. Every other officially platonic partnership goes out of its way to show amicable relationships between the reported so and the partner. Beharry/Moscovitch. Belbin/Davis.

It is obviously intentional because in the waning days of Jessica/Scott Tessa appeared in a few photos with Jessica where she'd completely avoided it in the years of the sham. With her exit it's like she posed to put her stamp on it before Jessica went out the door.

But basically, if it's strategy, it's not a strategy that makes sense. If Tessa kept clear of sham relationships herself, it might make a strained sense, but she doesn't.

    4. The modeling thing is especially cringe worthy. As a beautiful Olympic gold medalist, Tessa has done many photo shoots and will be doing many more. Cassandra could hardly have chosen anything that more blatantly screams of jealous triangle and a need for attention to be diverted to herself instead of her boyfriend's partner and bff.

Maybe Scott does like to make sure his social media relationship is so bizarre and juvenile no one will take it seriously anyhow, in spite of vacation pictures in Aruba. Lol
