But she WILL celebrate Meryl and Charlie

As we all know, and as is being discussed in the comments section in the post below this, Skate Canada has this fixation on Paul Poirier that went nuclear when he dumped Vanessa Crone and teamed up with a rich, spotlight hungry American girl.

The blog also discussed this girl's campaign to become a Canadian citizen based upon her "special services" to Canada. Services like this, during the ice dance team competition in Sochi.

Keep it up Meryl and Charlie, from a loyal Canadian, Piper Gilles.

Piper's loyalty to anything but Piper seems a bit suspect, it will surprise nobody to hear. During the opening ceremonies she had this tweet:

Seriously, she had to SHARE. Texting wouldn't do. She had to let the world know that the Canadian team's entrance had no meaning without Piper. At least, no meaning to her.

THIS is the girl up whose ass Skate Canada has been living for two years. Cheering on Meryl and Charlie in freaking SOCHI. Days later, she gave Tessa and Scott lip service (wonder what prompted that) but this is the first thing out of her twitter. Not just you give me goosebumps, but KEEP IT UP. Keep winning, Meryl and Charlie.

Yes, the blog and others were so so bad, so so mean, to object to fast tracking Piper Gilles to Canadian citizenship, leap frogging her over the backs of would-be citizens who were logging their second year of wait time (or more). The blog pointed out that any justification for accelerating her application was exceedingly thin - Canada was and is lousy with talented, competitive, already Canadian ice dance talent, and adding one more hardly merited categorizing her as providing a "special service." When Piper spoke to the merits of her application, she argued that she also loved Canada very very very very much. She doesn't even celebrate American holidays anymore! But she will publicly celebrate the American ice dance team being set up to rob her erstwhile teammates, Canadians Tessa and Scott.

We'll keep this in mind, Piper.

Piper Gilles taking her oath of citizenship.

    1. I seriously hope this is a poor attempt at trolling and not an actual, serious question.

  2. also piper needs to take some lessons from kaitlyn weaver

    1. Piper doesn't have a finger's worth of Kaitlyn Weaver's classiness.

    2. makes me even happier that kaitlyn go to go to the olympics

  3. When Piper Gilles about not watching the Opening Ceremonies, it was so damn obvious she was still butthurt that SC couldn't make it somehow happen that she and Poirier would go instead of Paul/Islam. Nice try, Piper. You're as bad as Christopher Caluza posting 'inspirational quotes', and throwing shade at Michael Christian Martinez and his mom because the Philippine federation didn't send him.

    1. Piper only cares about Piper. The question is why does Skate Canada care about Piper? Money must be changing hands here. It is certainly not due to her talent. I find her personality vile and her skating lacking in skill. Although to be fair, she has improved a bit since teaming up with Paul.

  4. I don't think Canadian skaters should be obligated to support other Canadians on twitter. Piper skates a lot more like Meryl than Tessa, so of course she likes D/W more. In Canada, G/P are the D/W to P/I's V/M and it's in their interest that weaker, flashier skaters be rewarded.

I'm certainly not her biggest fan but this is petty.

    1. It's not petty after she made such a huge display of how Canadian she is now.

    2. 12:56 are you out of your MIND? Piper made a gigantic stink about wanting to become Canadian - leapfrogging over others in line - because she wanted so badly to have the honor of representing Canada in Sochi. The entire POINT of her citizenship application was her love of Canada and the "special services" she'd render Canada that argued to expedite her application and fasttrack her to citizenship.

Then when she fails to make the team she turns around and publicly declines to watch the Canadian team at the opening ceremonies, and furthermore roots on Americans Meryl and Charlie in ice dance.

I don't think you know what petty means. Her citizenship application was TIED TO her support and CONTRIBUTION TO Canadian Olympic athletic endeavor.

  5. Can't they rescind her citizenship now that they didn't make the team?

You know, the Lithuanian president was pretty damn smart to deny Tobias her citizenship until they actually SECURED AN OLYMPIC SPOT.

    1. But they didn't have an asshole MP advocating for her! Poor little Piper needed to be assured of her spot. Only she can contribute such special services to Canada - being 18th at Worlds and all.

      Snicker.

  6. It is pretty obvious Piper used the system, like spoiled rich white girls always do. Kaitlyn as well. Both are still rabid Americans with little concern for anything Canadian beyond staged sound bites and photo ops.

However, Paul Poirier let Piper use Canada this way as did Skate Canada.

    1. I'm sorry you must not have been watching these Olympics, kaitlyn has been at all of the events cheering canada on like a rabbit Canadian hockey fan. She has been wearing her colors proudly

    2. I agree, Kaitlyn is a class act. She always has been.
7:32, please don't lump Kaitlyn in with Piper.

    3. Kaitlyn is a great skater and lovely person. It isn't her fault that she happens to share This particular scenario with Piper. I cannot stand Piper Gilles and laughed with glee when she didn't make the Olympic team. What a spoiled, petty little cow. We don't need her to represent us. The US can have her.

    4. Kaitlyn is a total class act. I'll never forget in Nice, when she came out running to the K & C to hug P/B after their freedance; the look on her face was of true happiness for her then-training mates.

  8. Like with the Olympic Hockey game bet, the loser gets Justin Beiber (now forever an American). Lets say the loser of 2014 Worlds Ice Dance gets Piper too.

  9. Global National News did a story last night on foreign athletes being fast-tracked Canadian citizenship over more deserving applicants. It seems that Miss Piper was fast-tracked citizenship over an Afghan interpreter who worked with Canadian intelligence and defense stationed in Afghanistan.

All the more reason to despise Piper.

    1. Well to be honest - you have to think that Skate Canada pulled strings for this...priorities...it was not out of our goodness of our heart...

    2. Citizenship applications get fast-tracked all the time both in the US and Canada for various reasons.

Piper isn't the villain here, although she's been less than classy. After all, on her own she isn't the one who managed to fast-track her citizenship. This is on Skate Canada and their internal corruption in promoting G/P over and above other equally-deserving ice-dance teams.

It's another indication of Skate Canada's priorities, which certainly were not in promoting VM nor defending them against the ISU's shenanigans.

Skate Canada seems to be in an awful hurry for VM to retire. I wonder why that is.

    3. Anon at 9:01 am - totally agree with you. You can tell that the ISU, the USFSA and Skate Canada are all in an awful hurry for VM to retire...you ask why - my answer is because they have NOT regressed in terms of their skating and it showed BIG TIME at the GPF and at the Olympics...and like it or not - VM came across as the REAL champs at the Olympics - unlike Patrick Chan - who although came away with a silver - was not a great skate - far from it...Skate Canada has a lot of work to do - Weaver/Poje were dumped at the Olympics, Paul/Islam finished way behind...
I know Skate Canada will want Chan to skate for at least 2 more years...but to be honest - I don't think he has it in him...(the motivation)..

    4. Paul/Islam's marks in Sochi were not reflective of their skating, which was brilliant. It was about humilating a talented, up-and-coming team who's skill set is is second-best to V/M's and could seriously challenge for an OGM in 2018 (if they keep growing their skills and competitive steel). But no way another North American team will be allowed to descend the top of an ice dance podium anytime soon, because Russians won't be kept off the podium, and legit North American teams being made to pay the price for D/W's underserved OGM.

    5. Anon at 9:37 am - yes I agree. I also think that after the dust settles after Worlds this year - I wouldn't be shocked if the Shibs decide to retire this year or next year and then pursue their education. As for the next quad in the US - it will be the Gracie Gold/Frank Carroll show...Ashley Wagner will eventually get dumped...

      Delete
    6. USFSA's priorties will completely shift getting Gracie Gold to the top of the podium in 2018. All their ice dancers will be left twisting in the wind, in the same same way SC dumped V/M after the 2010-11 season, in their single-minded goal of Patrick's OGM. And just like SC gambled and lost in the end, USFSA will lose as well. Everybody loses in the politking game, most of all, the integrity of the sport in the eyes of the fans and public.

    7. Well said anon at 10:29 am. And dare I add - specifically with the ladies - we are losing three very gracious women - who have been classy all the way in Yuna Kim, Mao Asada and Carolina Kostner. A special shout-out also to Akiko Suzuki who has respresented the sport very well. And even Miki Ando - even though she tried to comeback. All of these women could have left the sport a while ago - but they decided to continue in one form or another - and to me that's a true mark of a champion and they leave the sport with their heads high.
I think VM have left a similar mark...it's a good time to leave the sport because really its no longer one in the real sense of the word..

    8. I was beyond happy for Carolina Kostner; she skated three outstanding skates in Sochi. Not only did she skate clean, she put on a clinic of pure skating skills. She will be missed.

    9. Same here - Carolina's skating is beautiful - a la Lambiel...beautiful way to end a career...
