I can't stand it

I'm not shaking my fist at the sky; the Shibs are in striking distance, but these were feeble twizzles, some seriously shallow edges by Gabriella, slow, and a lot of taking turns skating. It's the skating I can't stand, and the pretense that this slow-mo soporific is any good. Yes, it's very limpid. Good for them, nothing to do with skating. I can't stand them. I'd rather see bad skating than this. The program is dire. And it just fills me with anticipation about the sort of sleep aid Dubreil Lauzon will produce for VM next season.

I read on Goldenskate that Tatiana Tarasova said Papadakis & Cizeron are nothing special when you see them practice, but in performance something else happens. What happens? How does that work? They're bleh skaters on practice ice, but suddenly acquire a tour de force technique when it's time to do their program for the judges? This is drivel. If Virtue and Moir have to fight them for the podium next year, it will be unbearable.

I've yet to see Weaver & Poje's program - I don't watch anything live - but following along on Goldenskate, several expected them to take the lead only to have them scored well behind.** Glad to see Angelika Krylova's burnt offering to the ISU - calling Tessa Virtue fat - paid such great dividends. I'm going to fill in with a gif of fat Tessa/Scott struggling to lift Fat Tessa* from 2013-14 as soon as the new computer is loaded with the apps from my on-life support old computer. I've been working with a chromebook for most of this past weekend and week and just got my real laptop back, or rather, new laptop as the old one was euthanized, or will be as soon as its contents are salvaged/transferred to this one.

*Sarcasm.
**Not too early to start in with the conspiracy theories. Here's a hopeful one: two Canadian teams - Weaver & Poje and, one suspects, Duhamel & Radford, have been thrown under the bus. Both have been overrated, overscored, but they're not skating any worse than they've skated in the past. Has Skate Canada struck a bargain - decided its podium allotment will be Virtue and Moir, and cleared the decks for skaters from other countries in the other disciplines? That would be nice.

  1. I've never watched this team and turned off that video 3 minutes in once I got bored. What a snorefest and it makes me think that someone has decided there won't be another North American team winning gold this year. So hoping the Shibs can sneak past these losers but I'm not holding out too much hope after seeing the ridiculous scores that CB and GP received. Barf.

    1. I know, right? One year they just showed up and were annointed. What the hell do they do that's superior? Last season they were speculated to be mid-pack. They hadn't been flagged as a duo where we should expect great things. They do their program, their short program is indistinguishible from their long, this year's long is the same as last year's long, what the hell is their strength? Their twizzles are feeble. Their speed is mediocre. Her edges are often negligible. I can't watch all the way through either; they're boring.

  2. The judging was a farce last night. There is no way PC or CB should be in the top 5, or top 10 for that matter. And only a point separating WP and GP? Are you fucking kidding me? Hub/Don got totally screwed as well. It should be Shibs, Hub/Don, and W/P on the podium, in that order, but that's not gonna happen.

The amount of corruption that had to have happened to "elevate" the team of P/C (and their sub-par, junior skating) is on par with the corruption that elevated Davis/White. It's gross.

    1. I could have written this post myself. After the results of US Nationals and 4CC, coupled with V/M returning to competition, I felt hopeful that there were some positive changes behind the scenes. The results of yesterday's SD left me feeling like I'd had a bucket of ice cold water thrown on me. My heart feels heavy for Shibs, Hub/Don, and W/P, who were all screwed over. P/C leading is as farcical as all the times D/W lead over V/M. There are not 76+ points of substance in what they did. Much like many of D/W's fake victories over V/M, the problem wasn't Shibs being lowballed. It was that P/C were overscored. Hub/Don are better than the entire ice dance field present at worlds except for the Shibs, but are in 7th instead of 2nd. C/B shouldn't be at worlds. Hub/Don finished 5.44 points ahead of G/P in the SD at 4CC. Suddenly, they get a level 2 on a pattern they've gotten level 4 on last year and their score drops while G/P's shoots up by 7 points. C/L have flaws, but H/D are a better team than they are. Of the 5 teams in the final group, only 2 of them deserve to be there. One team shouldn't be present at all, and two teams should be in earlier groups.

I am not optimistic that tonight's FD results will be any better. The teams that deserve to be the podium will be screwed over while poor skating and gimmick will be rewarded with bloated scores. That's the reality of post-D/W ice dance.

    2. The only thing PC changed this season from last was the costumes. They swoon onto the ice, swoon through the program, the scores explode; they lead.

Dear God what if the intention is to create another training center rivalry with PC versus VM. Would the sport pretend VM has their work cut out for them to take over from PC? Yes.

    4. Finally, what on earth would PC's scores have been if their twizzles had been in synch at any point? 80?

    5. It occurred to me tonight that while DW had the magical, all-purpose twizzles, PC have the magical, all-purpose program. Use it for both SD and FD year-after-year!

  5. Love the conspiracy theory. Sadly, I don't think that group of bumbling fools could pull that off. At most they will be hopeful about V/M what with their other pairs and dance teams falling off the world standard and Chan way behind technically. Sadly, I think that V/M will be beaten when they come back regardless of what they do. It's a sad joke.

  6. I have not been a fan of Weaver & Poje this season, but after seeing their short at Worlds, I understand why the forum I was following thought they'd take the lead. That was a strong, sharp skate, leagues above the Papadakis Cizeron sleepwalking. We have been gifted the sequel to Little Moir crying during a telephone call. During an interview, which clearly takes place in a hotel room, someone calls and asks for Scott's wife. If it was a wrong number, he would have told the caller like any decent person would have. Of course this is being taken as an opportunity to laugh at what people here will say about it. Happy to oblige. Good lord, fans are stupid.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Actually I think they were in pj's room for the interview and the caller was looking for her. When a male voice answered, they assumed it was her husband. Nice try in making those of us with brains feel dumb.

      Delete
    2. Agree with 8:49. Tessa and Scott were in PJ's room, the call was legitimate.

I'm certain VM are married and have children. Nevertheless, I do not believe their reasons for hiding these facts from the general public are for the express intention of laughing at people.

VM have been in the public eye since their teenage years. In all this time there have never been reports of mocking personalities or an arrogance that would make people around them uncomfortable and/or feeling they were looked down on. On the contrary, everything we see and hear of their interactions with the public are warm, friendly and humble.

Supposedly, one only has to link together all the public domain facts about VM to see the truth about their relationship? In the same way, linking together all the public facts does not IMO demonstrate that VM are snobs with malicious motives.

We have no idea why they decided to hide their relationship or why they went so OTT with the fake girlfriends. I'm not defending those decisions, just saying we don't know. There's a difference between chronicling all the lies and ascribing motive and intent to those lies.

      Delete
    3. I don't think 3:44 was implying that the call was fake with an intention to make fun of fans, just that Scott found it amusing that they asked for his wife and didn't bother hiding the nature of the call. The same way they weren't phased by the baby crying on the phone, and thought it was funny.

That being said, I do think that plenty of their interaction with the public - not in person, but in what they put out online - has had an arrogance and a mean-spiritedness towards fans.

But back to the phone call, yes Patricia is PJ's name, and so that is the likely explanation. She does talk about answering the phone as if it's her room. Still, in this day and age, would someone ask an unknown male person for "your wife (insert name)"? Or even "your wife" unless they knew the people in question were married? Maybe PJ is there with a husband, but I've had the impression she isn't married since she has spoken about being a single mother. So I also think it's plausible that they asked for "your wife", meaning Tessa.

      Delete
    4. 8:49, whatever was really going on, surely nobody with brains can think Scott and Tessa are NOT together at this point. I don't see how that's possible.

I was actually in Boston part of this week, through today, and could not log into my oycanada account on my device or a borrowed laptop. It was killing me after the free dance. That's just a travesty. If you know nothing about skating, one might be persuaded that Davis White's bag of tricks added up to something, but with Papadakis Cizeron the world can see the feeble skating and feeble signature elements that everybody recognizes, such as the twizzles.

    5. 10:35, at the height of Virtue and Moir's shamming on their public social media accounts, we could just them from their behavior. They continually set fans up. They baited them with Tessa/Scott, then switched to Scott/sham girlfriend, over and over. It reached the point where many who followed their social media (Facebook) treated Scott with kid gloves so as not to trigger any mockery, and so he would continue to intermittently interact on his social media. It did no good. Fans were continually ridiculed by the. The very process of setting up the bait and switch, pouring it on about Monaco or Paris, then spamming with Jessica, was mean. At all the Xmas and holiday and vacation drops, the ridiculous was overt. IT's their actual behavior that was called out.

    7. How is he a jerk for simply pointing out that he did not say that? I see nothing wrong with how he said it. If the poster feels bad that's not on Scott. And Tessa liked his tweet too.

  10. Re: P/C's awful choreography, Romain is credited on their ISU page as being responsible for some of it. It's hard to tell what that actually means, if he worked with Marie-France on both programs or if he did one program and she did the other. You might assume the order they're listed in means he was responsible for the SD, but it's been confirmed that he did P/I's SD, and yet he's listed last on their page, so who knows.

I think he's actually quite good when working in dance styles more specific than lyrical. As much as P/I's ballet was not what they needed, it is a difficult piece that references the vocabulary well. He also did their 2011-12 rumba, and P/C's SD last year. I've also suspected he did Le Gac/Lauriault's FD as it has more nuance than the FDs that are definitely Marie-France's, but am basing that somewhat on the order of listing on their biography page which again, might not mean much.

As for his hand in P/C's programs this year, well, they're only capable of so much and this style is what has made everyone go crazy about them (for heaven knows what reason, I don't get it either), so I guess it was seen as smart to stick with it.

    1. I have a suspicion that VM knew PC were going to win. Lots of us knew it was going to happen. It's part of the SC master plan - and I think this play will benefit VM.

VM agree to train at SC's preferred ice dance training centre; they help Canada develop its training reputation. The French, who sacrificed PB, are getting theirs now. VM will win that 2018 Olympic gold. I do think it will be deserved, and they gave it up in 2014. But I think it's being secured for them now. If VM keep playing along (sorry WP) I think it's theirs. They played the game the last quadrennial and got screwed. I think they've been told that if they can hang on a little longer then they can call themselves the first North American dance team, and one of a very small handful of dance teams, to ever win two Olympic golds.

PC were gifted an outrageous score. It screams corruption. It's blatant. Everyone was on board with that - all the PTB made certain they would win. Canada just manages to secure 3 spots for next year with WP in 5th and GP in 8th. Even though the Shibs should have won, they win a World medal on home ice. USA walks away with two world dance medals, and you're probably right, 8:23, they're going to win a ladies medal too. (mostly) Everyone (sorry WP - I feel for them... they don't deserve to be played like this) walks away satisfied. Sure, no medal for Canada, but they're going to get theirs in 2018.

PC might win world's next year, and their crazy score might set them up to be world recording holding for a long while (can anyone beat that number?) but I don't think they will win in 2018. I really REALLY don't think VM would come back unless they firmly believed that gold was possible.

As a fan, it's crummy when I think about how they're playing along, and throwing their team-mates under the bus along the way, but I just can't believe they'd do this all again if it wasn't a sure thing.

The Shib's won that event. PC aren't really even in the game - it's a total farce. I'm sure it doesn't take the sting away, but I hope the Shibs understand that. No one was beating PC, no matter what. So just take them out of the equation - it's fake! Shib's received a great score, and were scored for what they did. They won.

Most of us agree it's not a sport anyway. It's entertainment. It sucks, but here we are.

      Delete
    2. To this last comment: yeah, every single sport is entertainment.
And every single sport works exactly like you have said. The most powerful ones (federations or corporations) are ruling and trying to split the spots of the athletes between them. Honestly it works like that also for tennis or soccer where there aren't judges, so why do we even think that this sport should be excluded.

      Delete
    3. I wish I could believe that SC has any sort of plan like the above but I don't. Everything points to SC being complete idiots starting in 2013. I don't think they control anything and don't think they have any plan at all. In fact, their only plan seems to be to do nothing. I think the other federations are running circles around this current administration and VM will be screwed over again. To top it off SC will have crap results at the 2018 OWG. And what's worst is I don't think the people running SC care. All they care about is their own positions in SC and the ISU. Fuck the athletes.

    4. It was both hilarious and desperate to hear Kurt and Carol openly criticize P/C (they criticized the twizzles, Gabriella messed up a turn coming out of the footwork sequence, and how "simple" the overall program was), and then go on to praise the Shibs for their technique and difficulty, and then in the post-event wrap-up, Kurt (or maybe it was Carol) can only meekly say "but oh, P/C were so magical!". There was absolutely no conviction in anything they said about P/C.

Maybe it was just me, but in the Kiss and Cry, just before the scores were announced, the Shibs looked at "peace" with the outcome; they knew they weren't going to win, no matter how awesome a skate they just laid down.

      Delete
    5. The commentary but Kurt and Carol was hilarious. My favourite comment was something about PC not doing anything difficult, I think it was Carol who said "it's like they are saying, we could do all that difficult stuff, but we are choosing not to" hahaha. Yes, I'm sure that's exactly what is happening. It couldn't be that they suck and are being held up as the new DW. Gabriella is the weak link, her partner isn't great but she is like a limp fish flailing around on the ice. Ignoring that mess, I am so thrilled for the Shibs! Should have been gold but at least they made the podium and beat CB. Very much deserved. I was also pleased to see HD get a pretty decent score. They were lovely.

    6. "Gabriella...is like a limp fish flailing around on the ice." So true. Their straight line lift was so bad, I laughed out loud; she slumps on his back and then bellyflops into his arms. 5. I agree with some of what both of you said.

I think 1:24 is right that it's a mistake to confuse their execution with good choreo. Sure they're sharp the hip-hop parts and the skating and interpretion are great as always, but I don't think this is showing anything they haven't already done. It feels really empty to me, a lot of openness and stillness to make room for the dance-party bits and the grab-bag inclusion of old material makes it really uncohesive IMO.

But 2:13, since you're clearly not trying to claim this as a masterpiece only because it's a Gadbois creation, well, I don't think it's silly for you to enjoy it if you happen to like it. You're right that it's more than P/C do.

    6. 7:41 -- get ready to be furious. V/M have no chance at all of winning a second Olympics. The winner will either be P/C or an American team. Ice dance has nothing to do with skating, and everything to do with returning favors and rewarding favorites. V/M don't believe this -- they always think that skating skills trump politics, which is why they don't play the game right and end up losing.

  26. I agree with 8:05 that VM will not be winning in 2018. After VM's deserved win in 2010 and DW's heist in 2014, with the ridiculous and unearned elevation of PC, it's clear that the ISU mafia wants the ice dance OGM to go back to a European team in 2018 and it will be PC. I think VM will likely end up with silver in the individual event, but could be pushed to bronze because of politics. I do think the third medal, whether it be silver or bronze, will go to one of the US team. At this point it's hard to say whether it will be the Shibs allowed an individual Olympic medal, albeit most likely the wrong color, CB as a consolation prize to Igor for not getting to be a part of DW's 2014 heist, or HD as the third medal necessary to complete a sweep of the podium for DL and Team Montreal.

    2. Ice Dance will never be kicked out of the Olympics so long as it is the only discipline the US has a chance to medal in. The US pays too much money to the IOC for them to take a sport where the US can increase its medal count.

  27. I really really believe that VM should be trying to get the compulsory dance back on. it's the only way they cant be robbed.

    1. You can totally be robbed in the compulsories. Just ask the ice dancers of the past, when compulsories were competed. Just like twizzles that are totally off-sync can be awarded Level 4 with +3 GOE, judges can mark compulsories any damn way they want. After the way D/W won over V/M, it is very clear that the skating has nothing to do with the scoring.

    2. The only way V/M won't be robbed is if the ISU stops its corrupt ways and actually scores ice dance according to its own damn rule book.

      Delete
    3. The compulsories wouldn't make a difference. Look at the standings in 2010. V/M were on top, but they were on top in the other segments too. It had nothing to do with the CD. Look at how pattern elements have been judged.

  28. I've watched VM's new choreos and their slightly modified Carmen and here's what I think: Their skating is smoother. Superb. Wonderful, really. But what's with the choreos? Jeez, someone make it stop! A friend or family member should just tell them to stop with this hip hop shit and fire whomever tampered with Carmen because watching it I felt like it was choppy. No fluidity (apart from the normally choppy modern dance stuff).
I really hope they are either saving themselves physically for all their training or want to surprise people with something new and awesome because if they intend to compete with the same level of choreos they've been presenting on shows, I guess they're gonna be in big trouble. Not to mention the ISU already set the stage for the shit storm next season. Lord help us!

    1. Yeah there was something weird about that Carmen-it seemed out of time

    2. Hope Tessa and Scott can see it too or they'll find themselves hearing their choreographer ask "Is it too late now to say sorry?" Unfortunatly, it will be.

    3. I really don't like that "hip hop shit" either. "Sorry" from Ice Legends reminded me of their "Good Kisser" exhibition from 2015 which I think was better, it also had the same lift. I think that Sorry is the same moves over and over again and doesn't have much content. But now I found that the short dance for 16/17 season is "Blues + either or both: Swing, Hip Hop", the pattern dance is Midnight Blues. So maybe they are preparing for that by choosing this type of hip hop dance choreos. Papadakis/Cizeron also did their exhibition at Worlds to DKLA/Can't Feel My Face. I think it will be an interesting season.

    4. Can't wait for this next season! (Even with the hip hop)

  30. Where is Scott's fake girlfriend now? Seems like the only girlfriend he has these days is Tessa.

    1. Yes. Could be wishful thinking on my part but it looks like they are preparing the public for a great revelation. They are together all the time and finally stopped hiding it. Wouldn't surprise me if any day Tessa posts a pic of them kissing or something. It looks like that's where it's all going. At least that's the vibe I'm getting from them these days.

Why would Tessa post a picture of them kissing in order to "reveal"? This is not junior-high relationships. Get a grip.

VM history confirms you can never assume anything at all by whatever they're doing or not doing in public or on social media. I believe they're a long-standing couple, most likely with children, but it does not follow they will ever reveal anything. Certainly not according to the fantasies of shipper fans.

IF VM ever come clean (big if), I expect it will be highly structured and professionally managed. We're talking about adults who have access to competent, professional PR entities. There's no reason to "reveal" anything via juvenile social media antics.

    3. 8:58

Yes, because they have been acting like adults with competent, professional PR entities all these years.

They have been together for at least 5 years (I'd say more like 7 or 8) and it's been sham after sham.

Not to mention they have a lot to gain with the big "revelation" since there are people who are too blind to see what's in front of them.

What better than Tessa being a darling and deciding to "share the news with her social media friends first".

I wouldn't put anything past two people who have gone to the lengths they've gone to hide their relationship. So, get a grip.

    4. 3:52. Agreed. Tessa and Scott have not acted like adults with professional PR, particularly when it comes to their (fake) love lives.

However, keep in mind that's been their norm related to the lying and hiding. The fact is, concerning their REAL relationships there's never been any indication of juvenile antics. Their public lives aren't totally without good PR, they have shown they can indeed behave and operate professionally. In addition, they do have all the access to competent PR, as 8:58 points out. Whenever they decide to stop lying, there's no reason to think they wouldn't approach things in a professional manner.

  31. 6:11

I agree, but I wasn't talking about then really stop lying. If they did, then they would HAVE to get lots of professional help. Otherwise, how to explain that many lies?

What I meant by "revelation" is a sham, based on their real relationship. Like "they've finally decided to get together." Not "we've been together for years and lied to your faces. We also created side girlfriends to fool you."

Their "finally getting together" would get lots of attention and press while admitting to the lies would hurt more than help.

Can you imagine? The wife is the new sham girlfriend. Genious. Pure evil genious.

  32. I don't care if they sham or don't sham. All I want is for Scott to stay with whomever is persuading him to keep his hair as long as it is right now. He looked absolutely fabulous in Ice Legends.

  34. P/C are only winning because of politicks and because didier is gonna be isu president. that isn't a win to be proud of lol. VM are gonna be remembered as the last CoP-era ice dancers who won an olympic gold fair and square because shit is going to hit the fan once didier's dirty laundry is gonna be hung out to dry - such as the fact he is using the sochi collusion allegations for his and p/c's advantage

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well I'm just too curious to let this go - how is saying W/P are better than P/C chauvinist, exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey Anon 8:31, you must be the asshole who spews venom all over YouTube in the comments section of P/C videos. P/c are a garbage team akin to Davis/White, and are being propped politically to give them fake wins; none of their "wins" are earned on the ice. Zhulin and all the other commentators and coaches are toeing the ISU's line, because none of them will dare out call the corruption and have it backfire on their teams and/careers, just like nobody called out the corruption that (fake) elevated Davis/white. Their medals and scores are a joke and an insult to all the teams that are executing legitimate ice dance, including Weaver/Poje, the Shibutanis, and Hubbel/Donahue.

    ReplyDelete
  37. poor asshole your comments are also meaningless than all North American skating is empty artistitcally..the only insult to the skating is especially this ridiculous S/S s silver medal in Boston after US national Zoueva s propaganda ..S/S are two mechanical and so slow souless skaters without charisma and without exceptional skating skils.. W/P have limited and dull technical or skating skills... this season their FD was more boring than last one and wasnt inhabited ..when you dare compare H/D at P/C level is laughable and prooves your blindness and your stupidity...supernatural P/C skate off category when others teams trot on ice ..and apart from the poor ridiculous chauvinistic in your "genre" all lovers of skating and art see where are the truechampions ...Canadians gold medals are not only legitimate sweet little shit..Kiss you
