Why would you ADD people?

As it defies common sense to bring even more people into the sham circus, that is naturally what Moirville is busy doing.

I'm bringing a comments section discussion from the previous post into this post.

As noted by a participant in the comments section below, this girl:

was a skating student of Alma's. She also tweets to the girl whose twitter screen cap is below, a girl who who calls Alma's attention to a fan she wants them both to sneer at.

They are all such assholes and I guess before Toddler Moir is even three she's being trained to be an asshole herself or else have tremendously thick skin. Otherwise I can't imagine anything more fun to find on someone's public twitter than my daddy being seen out with his girlfriend.

OTOH twitter has to be a dream come true for Scott in some ways. Obviously, Moirville has an unending supply of skating community members eager to get involved in Scott and Tessa's business, and with tweets like this Scott doesn't even have to pose for a photo. Someone can just tweet that they saw him. It's totally hands off. With Sochi less then a year away, let's make this as messy and dickish as we can, shall we?

That's asinine, but this, though, sucks:

Umm*, you know who else exists, you asshole, Alexandra Vaiay? The fan who made that playlist. This is an actual person, not some abstract group of "fans".

Why NOT humiliate her on your public twitter. Why NOT call Scott's MOTHER's attention to this fan on the assumption it's crazy and embarrassing. Let's mortify someone who hasn't done one fucking thing to you, you fucking sack of stupid. Yes, if I were that type of fan, there would be nothing more hurtful than having my innocent online fan activities called to the attention of my favorite's mom so she could endorse how ridiculous I'm being.  What Alexandra Vaiay is doing on her twitter is a hell of a lot more fan-like, bitchy and overinvested than a figure skating fan enjoying the sport enough and respecting her favorite's music choices enough to make a playlist.

OTOH, the playlist fan can take under advisement that she's targeted by people who can barely turn on their computers, so they probably imagine the playlist fan has spent hours working with  IT professionals to string that thing together, and to them, that's #crazy. But if they were the sorts of people who knew where the on button is, on their computer and in their brains, they'd realize online applications/software streamline the process.

What's not crazy is living through your kid and his wife, your brother and his wife, your neighbor and his wife, your coach's youngest son and his wife, your ex highschool classmate who left before graduation and his wife. And using twitter to fuck with your relative's fans and supporters. That's not #crazy.

What are they doing on twitter besides not providing any positive attention for Scott and Tessa's Sochi prospects? Do they run "Virtue Moir" through the search function to find out what fans are doing so they can mock them? They've probably got a lot bottled up since they restricted their facebooks. We know them. It's not enough to be meanspirited amongst themselves. They like a big audience of strangers.

Seriously - why don't Scott and Tessa petition to skate their programs in a lab? Keep the crowds out. Just run through the programs under the critical eye of the ISU's judges and have them report the scores later. Let the other skaters skate in public, in front of actual people.

I don't know if Scott and Tessa can skate their best breathing the actual air also being breathed by mere fans who paid mere money to watch them compete. Likewise, how on earth do they manage to perform in shows when all these fans are attending.

If they're not paid, they not only ignore fans, they actively and publicly disparage them. If they're paid, they will lay it on. When not paid, they do things like host a fanpage and then ignore all the fans who do basic things like say Happy Birthday, until they bolt for the exit because their newest fake girlfriend has just joined twitter and they don't want to be around when fans find out about it.

People wonder how spoiled Tessa is, or how obsessed the family is with Scott and Tessa, but I want to know how spoiled that senior generation is - Carol and Alma & Co. They are certainly undisciplined and completely unaccustomed to the need to consider other people's feelings.  They act like they've never left the play pen, which, in a way, they haven't.

I think it's high time Moirville provided everybody with their profile of an acceptable fan. Apart from a willingness to shell out money for yellow sweatshirts and fabricated biographies, is anything else on the list?

Why couldn't this person who made that playlist be a fan of somebody with a fucking heart, like Moore Towers Moscovitch? Or ice dancers who have a freaking clue about publicly treating their public with basic decency (Paul/Islam).

I don't know, maybe Alma, Carol and the other Moirs with restricted twitter accounts should lay down a few guidelines for those they follow, especially people they know. Such as try not to basically single out a fan by name (or even screen name) on twitter, and shame them.

http://8tracks.com/parapluies/tessa-scott

That would require thought. They are allergic to thought.  Things like thoughtfulness and basic decency are too much trouble. They're just a bunch of social media slobs but I also think, as the blog has said many times before, they have a sensitivity chip missing. Because, a lot of people, this type of insensitivity and casual cruelty just doesn't happen, no matter how careless or inattentive they're being on social media. If it's not in you, it's not going to happen. If that's who you are, however, then it's going to show up all over the place.

Ironically, nothing brings them to tears faster than they bring themselves to tears. Get them talking about themselves and the floor is littered with crumpled tissue. Other people, not so much.

*"Ummmm" is right up there with "shrugs" and "lol" in the pantheon of overused, ass-covering disclaimers on the internet in cases where someone is completely obsessed but trying to play  themselves off as not.

P.S. - this season, in addition to .gif-ing the shit out of Meryl and Charlie's programs the second they're unveiled, it might be nice to keep an eye on stories such as the one that came out recently about Paul Moir and Sherri Moir getting ice skates to that low-ranked ice dance team whose skates didn't arrive in time for them to compete. Track where stories like this come from. Who brings them to the attention of the media? How are good deeds like this discovered?

P.P.S., as this is a twitter post, and in honor of the tumblr linked in the comment section, here's a sample of the twitter stylings of Cassandra Hilborn:

You guys, she sobbed.

Scott was, of course, on tour with Tessa. Which makes Tour - 1, Cass - 0 sort of resonant.

This is also classically narcissistic sham. It's not life. It's about CASS.

I've said it before, Moirville has big mouths. And I sometimes wonder just how enthusiastically they embrace Tessa, or is it really that Scott loves Tessa, and Tessa is the reason Scott won a gold medal, so of course they LOVE Tessa, but do they love her in her own right, for her own qualities, or is it a Jackie/Ethel situation where they wish she was Ethel?

The tone of the sham - especially this iteration, with "Cass", calls that into question, IMO. It's like this Tessa dissing shit is creeping into things. It's probably all her fault they're stuck making asses of themselves shamming. If Tessa didn't have her own life, then she could hang. And everybody could crawl up her ass and into her business - for real, not just behind her back. Maybe Scott would be more available and less whipped.

And maybe Cass, who as we know is tweeting under Moir supervision - is just acting out some wish fulfillment. Maybe the competitive tone that creeps into all things sham stems from the source - those who run it.

i think you're overreacting here. you shouldn't let another fan speak for tessa and scott.

    1. It's the Alma tie-in that makes them relevant. They have no social media presence that's constructive either in terms of helping people understand the skating or engaging with the public, but this is the kind of crap that litters it. Their relatives following some troll who launches her twitter account making fun of fans (I'm speaking of Heather). The only reason they unfollowed her was she starting making dicey tweets about Tessa - the fact that Heather started out mocking fans was what attracted the Moirs to her account.

Now, someone they know, one of their permitted followers, uses her access to point out to Alma something stupid she thinks a fan is doing. These people are on twitter for Scott and Tessa, to do their dirty work. It reflects back on Scott and Tessa.

    2. P.S. - and I really want to know how someone like Dylan Moscovitch and his partner can be effortlessly kind and decent on social media, while everywhere you turn with these products of small town values, it's douche. Douche is default. They've got issues. How can people be so acutely sensitive to what's said about them or their loved ones and so casually nasty to other people.

They really make skating look bad. Who'd want to be part of a community like that?

      Delete
    3. how do you know if alma responded to that though?

    4. The point is Alma's tweets are restricted. Therefore, she vets who can follow her. This former student is a follower. Some of these people are obviously on twitter to help promote the sham - see the screen cap in the post where another former student of Alma's claims to have bought shots for Scott Moir and "his gf."

Alma and Carol and Charlie and Nicole showed their ass by following Heather (who is now as rogue as it gets) based on Heather belittling and insulting Scott and Tessa's fans and supporters - for believing what is TRUE. They only unfollowed when Heather started taking pot shots at Tessa. The belittling and insulting Scott and Tessa's supporters was the stuff they LIKED, that caused them to follow her.

These former students of Alma's who get on twitter and promptly take after fans or help sham are working with the Moirs. They're Moir representatives. They wouldn't be taking after fans or promoting the sham without being sanctioned by Scott's mom and others.

It doesn't matter if Alma replied or if her reply is visible. This is the only social media presence representing Scott and Tessa. They're not on social media for any other reason - they made that plain the second they joined. It's about Scott and Tessa. Trashing their fans and supporters is not the way to go. If these fans engage in it, they know it's welcomed by the Moirs. WE know it's welcome because of when they followed Heather. That was their vote of encouragement.

Some years ago Scott and Tessa were asked about their favorite gift from a fan. Scott mentioned a Dior tie. Tessa mentioned receiving a scrapbook from fans accompanied by a cd of music the fans would love to see them skate to. Per Tessa, it was thoughtfully put together and it was presented thoughtfully as well - there was no inordinate demand for Scott and Tessa's time and attention, and there was no particular expectation that Scott and Tessa would, in person, display their gratitude to these fans until the fans were satisfied. Tessa could have made something up about her favorite gift - who'd know the difference? But she mentioned this. She said she thought it was thoughtful. I'm sure she also appreciated it was skating-related. Based on what is being encouraged by Alma, these fans can now feel ashamed of themselves. Scrapbook and cd, playlist - what's the difference?

Here we have a fan who is minding her own business. She has taken the music that Scott and Tessa have skated to in public and she's made a playlist. Somebody who follows and is followed by Alma Moir searched this out, found it, and yukked it up with Alma about #crazy fans. Alma is a public figure. She's on twitter only because it's prior to Sochi and we all know that the only way Moirville can channel their obsessions and tendency to suffocate during a season like this is to fuck with fans. It's up to Alma to police the twitter followers and former students who are out on public twitter carrying water for the Moirs, because that is what these former students are doing. Involving themselves in sham, sucking up to the Moirs by trashing Scott and Tessa supporters. It's up to them to establish guidelines because these people, by following Alma and Carol, etc., and being followed by them, represent Ilderton and the Moirs as well. Alma et al haven't established guidelines - or rather, they HAVE and these are the guidelines. Be chickenshit, as usual, and restrict your own tweets. Your followers and connections have public tweets, and engage with you publicly. Spend most of the time insulting fans. That IS their agenda.

      Delete
    5. I think it's not the kind of thing this girl would draw to Alma's attention without there being some precedent of laughing at fans being OK. And of course, we already know that there has been plenty.

      Delete
    6. Which is fine because how some celebrities/public people would survive without laughing/rolling their eyes at fans in private is impossible to imagine. There are many aspects of fan behavior that can be just wild or off the grid or relentless.

This isn't one of them. Furthermore, you don't belittle your son and his partner's supporters and fans ON LINE in PUBLIC.

  2. Someone very helpfully linked to this site on twitter. I wanted to link to it over here and bring to everyone's attention before Miss Hilborn posts more pictures with her #cutestboyfriend. I can't feel sorry for them when these kinds of things get posted. They bring it on themselves.

The way these people are making fun of the fans every time they post some sham activity on social media, I think it's just fair that there should be this kind of pushback also on the internet, turning the mocking around on Moirville:

I'm sorry we're not dumb enough for you, Moirs, and how you think that's our job, and when we don't do our job, you use your profile picture to flip the bird. And I'm sorry you don't own social media, like you thought.

    3. That tumblr name is really malicious and really, I don't think the fans on tumblr give two shits about Cass Hilborn

      Delete
    4. How is it malicious. It's just turning it back on the Moirs and everyone else who has been laughing at fans for the last decade. Just because you don't give two shits about Cass Hilborn (let me guess, you're just happy that Scott has found a nice girl to love, right?) doesn't mean that no one else does.

      Delete
    5. I don't think it's malicious. It could probably have a URL less snarky than the one it's got, instead of the actual name, but fuck is not a foreign word to the skaters either. What's on the tumblr is plain snark. Cass Hilborn is a fake girlfriend.

Again, social media is a two way street. That tumblr is using, as content, the social media output the Moirs put out to manipulate the fans, and it's taking a shot back at Scott for Scott's ridiculous and uppity remarks about doing the bridal photo shoot which he aimed at the public. Those two absolutely can't own ANYTHING. They always want us to know they're lowering themselves for us.

They are not social media victims. The very little that's out there that constitutes pushback is a mirror of the stuff they pump out that's aimed at us. That's all it is. If it's a problem they can exercise more discretion, consideration and intelligence on social media. Of course they'd need to know what that stuff is and they don't. Or, they're too good for it. I've noticed that's a popular social media trend that the Moirs and some of their connections follow. Being PROUD of being an asshole. It demonstrates that you're privileged enough not to have to exercise any common courtesy and awareness. It's a status symbol.

      Delete
    6. No I really don't give two shits about Cass because she is a NOBODY. and its the name that's malicious. I really don't care what you guys think about Scott just don't force your opinion down people's throats by TAGGING YOUR HATE.

  3. Since Scott and Tessa have no presence on the internet, fans are going to look to those who "represent" them; Scott's family being the most visible. The way these representatives treat the fans is despicable. We're mocked, taunted, sneered at and generally made to feel as if we've done a horrible thing just by being a fan. How fucking dare we.

I'm so fed up with it all. The more the fans try and push back, the nastier the Moirs et al become.

    1. Well don't push back expecting anything from them.

The idea of pushing back is for its own sake. When they started in on social media not only did they assign fans the role of dupes but many fans accepted that role. They thought it was polite. They pushed aside the crappy feelings that would arise after one of Moirville's social media stings. The entire sham was structured to make fans feel foolish and stupid. Bait bait bait. It was hilarious.

The whole point of using social media to push back, at least as far as this blog is concerned, is to simply make the point that social media doesn't have a hierarchy in the way the Moirs tried to run it. That's not how it works. There's no one way street.

I just think this is who they are. They're parochial, they're spoiled, and because they're parochial they need somebody to feel better than, and that's everyone who's not them. So, basically, everyone outside western Ontario or with no ties to western Ontario. We all suck. Unless we're famous Canadian skaters. Then we're an honorary "us."

    2. I just want them to stop being assholes. This whole thing really makes it seem like we, the fans, are a huge inconvenience and Tessa being only slightly less of one. She gets to go and rent a movie (who the hell *rents* movies these days anyway? Other than Tessa apparently) while Scott's out boozing it up with the gf and singing happy birthday to people. Girl who tweeted that also posted a pic on Facebook with Scott, for those who were maybe thinking he was at home with Tessa - he wasn't.

Cassandra's tweets reek of "Tessa? Who the fuck is Tessa?" and obviously Scott and his family condone that. This is a great message going into the Olympics. I hope they're both pleased as punch.

    7. Anon at 10:11 pm - I am not anon 9:55 pm - with regards to D/W - I actually think that them choosing NHK was a smart strategic move because if they would have chosen TEB - they would have had to face P/B in France. Then Cup of Russia would not have been ideal since B/S are there - so NHK makes sense since there is no home advantage for a japanese team....my two cents..

    10. they chose NHK because they can't go to CoR this year. if B/S hadn't made the podium they would've chosen CoR. also someone on FSU said that jacqui told russian D/W fans at gpf that charlie was mad at scott for chosing CoR. people in japan ADORE them they should be greatful they got to skate at NHK.

    11. also, if you think D/W treat their fans better compared to V/M, you are totally wrong. years ago meryl sarcastically mocked the art style of a drawing a fan made of them that jacqui posted on FB. its the same shit wrapped differently.

    12. Anon @ 12:01
Not to defend DW, but you can't use FSU as a reliable source for some heresay. I don't doubt some Russian fans chatted with Jacqui White, but seriously? She's going to report something of a personal nature - feelings of anger! - to some fans? I'll give the fans the benefit of doubt that they simply misunderstood.

You have to consider the posting history of the one who brought this report to FSU. A person with a personal, intense hatred of anything DW, not above twisting facts to further personal agendas, and someone with a history of malicious gossiping.

DW and Co. may be engaged in dirty politics, but it's ridiculous to take this report seriously.

      Delete
    13. 9:55 - I know where you got the idea that Charlie pitched a shit fit over CoR, although you are enhancing the story that the fan told about it, as often happens. The fan who claimed Charlie's mother said Charlie was mad Scott and Tessa picked CoR is the same fan who, two years prior, claimed that the families told fans Scott and Tessa were quitting the sport in their heartbreak over losing Worlds in Russia. This fan is confirmation bias personified. She gets an idea and then interprets everything around her as if it's true, and if there's nothing around her to confirm it, she'll make it up, because what's the difference if it's true?

I am not claiming Davis White and their families are better people, although based on public output I'd give them the edge. In the past, on twitter, Meryl has tweeted as if she's sailing through life as the lead in a Disney production, which is fine, but furthermore there's an overlay of puzzlement that this isn't how it is for everyone else.

This isn't about how people FEEL. This is about how people ACT. There is no comparison between the two groups - Moirville treats fans like shit. They go out of their way to create situations where Scott and Tessa's supporters feel slighted. That's how they want them to feel.

    14. Something else 8:39 re this remark:

"I just want them to stop being assholes. This whole thing really makes it seem like we, the fans, are a huge inconvenience and Tessa being only slightly less of one. "

The irony is that if fans were an inconvenience they'd leave us alone. How many times have fans, in the internet fan forum and message board sense, been tootling along, minding their own business when Moirville decides to reach out unprovoked and fuck with them? Remember the big whine fest from Scott and Tessa prior to Worlds about how it had "filtered" to them from the internet they're never on that people were saying Tessa was like Carmen, and they whinged their heads off about what is probably the most popular program among internet fans that they've ever skated? That's asshole. If we were actually an inconvenience that shit wouldn't happen. If fans were just an inconvenience, shit like their little skype-sting in Paris wouldn't happen. That was another occasion when the fans were tootling along, focused on the programs, when the two of them sat down and completely baited and set up fans using a pseudo-skype format.

We're not an inconvenience. If fans didn't exist what would be their excuse to be up Scott and Tessa's ass 24/7? It's because of US. We provide a service. We're what they hide behind.

  4. I have no problem with V/M not being on twitter or facebook but the problem lies with the fact that family members, girlfriends, friends have used social media to set out an agenda that primarily has targeted the social media fans.
Isn't it hypocritical that a former skater labels a fan crazy who made a simple musicalplaylist...then what do you call those yellow Virtue and Moir sweatshirts from the Ilderton Skating Club introduced before Worlds? Perhaps that should be hashtagged Crazyfamily...
I get that you want to support your loved ones but there has to be some space...and then you have the girlfriends that basically would prefer that Scott was a singles skater - WTF?

    5. Just as soon as she decides what country music lyrics express her uniquely besieged situation, or have been written about her, personally. Stand her ground-ish against the slings and arrows. That sort of noble passive aggression seems to be the social media speed of Scott's social media honeys.

Scott loves to tell the media that "they" (he and Tessa) are not on social media. Yet they certainly are on social media, via surrogates there to promote his sham relationships and belittle the fans. (Now they've escalated to humiliating the fans. I hope one day they don't inadvertently belittle a fan who happens to be a young local skater stupid enough to express their love for Scott and Tessa in a playlist, collage or other internet-based application.)

Of course, a guy who brags that, unlike every other skater, he and Tessa aren't at all on social media, is going to be dating a girl who is not just on facebook but on twitter, one who uses her public profile photos on both to promote her relationship with Scott Moir. And who maintains, as you say, a rotating list of fan followers who will disseminate her self-glorifying histrionics to the fandom at large. That makes total sense, just as it did with Jessica when Scott would have test patterns as his facebook album content but smarm it up on Jessica's page in her <3 vacation and holiday albums that she'd make public on her wall and make like a carnival barker urging everyone to click on in for a look.

Here's another thing, the girl who tweeted about her bf buying a shot for Scott Moir and his "gf" at BarneysPatio is a skater who is also a fan. She posed for a photo with Scott and Tessa at Skate Canada's 2010 AGM and some of her fb fans squealed like she was posing with Robert Pattinson. When she put up her photo posing with Scott (the one that connects to her tweet), the same girl who hashtagged #crazyfans squealed in the comments and everybody made Scott-is-hot remarks. Which isn't fanlike in the least.

What's fanlike is the Moirs not knowing who you are, and you being a fan anyway. If you're in that category, you suck and they'll let you know it.

I'm finding it interesting just how many of the UWO skaters seem to be nosing their way into this. I'm pretty sure that a few of them are dedicated to policing the boards and have been for quite some time but then new ones just keep cropping up. Is that part of the deal when Alma Moir is your coach?

    9. "Is that part of the deal when Alma Moir is your coach?"

Earning good-deed points with the coach?

It doesn't say good things about that skating school if students feel important when they can participate in lies about VM and behavior that belittles their fans.

      Delete
    10. Well, I was reading Alma's bio on the UWO synchro team page, and apparently she teaches LIFE skills as well as skating skills, which - oy. But the life skills she cites are sticking to a commitment, never say die - along that vein, which, in the wrong context, is bad news. Adhering to a course of action without every evaluating isn't a good thing.

And about belittling fans - it's all who you are, and that is it. It's not how fans behave. It's not Tessa and Scott's privacy. It's Ilderton's need to create a "them" and feel superior to "them".

Because they can't possibly feel superior to fans when Scott worked his connections with Mike Babcock and took a bunch of his friends to see a Red Wings game, go behind the scenes, meet the players, see the locker room, pose with Babcock, take pictures on the bench. A group of ride-sharing, room-sharing skating ladies with tupperware lunches in their backpacks wouldn't be as agog, thrilled or fan like. They photographed cleaning products in the locker room! They posed with Babcock singly and as a group. They posed with players. They photographed row after row of sticks. They photographed all the lockers so as to have a photo set with every player's locker included. These guys were huge fans, and nothing but fans. I'm sure they're not treated like dirt at home by their community. Because they're part of that community. Likewise, we can all see that a lot of Alma's students and a lot of that community are also squeeling fans of Scott and Tessa and act exactly like fans. It doesn't matter - they're part of the community.

So this isn't really about fans - we're just outsiders. That's how they treat outsiders. If we knew Scott and Tessa's real status they'd lose some of their insider status.

    11. 11:01 - When I first saw that photo of Cassandra bent awkwardly at the waist that way I thought she was trying to make herself shorter than Scott. Then I realized she was bent at the waist so there was about half a foot between her and Scott below the shoulders. We all know how in the middle of this crap Scott tries to throw in chastity signals. The photos with Jessica where he's got a towel draped over him on the side where she's standing and he's got flip flops and other stuff in his hands so they don't have to land anywhere. He's very big on angles and buffers.

  8. Scott & Tessa should be ashamed of themselves sometimes. They do not speak French. What True Canadian isn't bilingual. Meryll atleast tries...

    1. Not speaking French is not a character deficiency.

How nice for Meryl that she can speak French. That does not make her a better person nor unfortunately a better icedancer.

    2. No but they could at least try. Tessa have a ''French'' family... and Scott had a French ''gf''...

    3. i'm pretty certain tessa knows how to speak french a little considering she has french ancestry + french family. i dont know about scott though. also i dont think they got the chance to properly learn it considering they kept on switching schools + moving growing up and spent so much time in the rink that tessa had to get her diploma online. also meryl only knows those languages because she is an anthropology students are really pretentious. so basically tessa and scott sacrificed much more than meryl and charlie did to get where they are.

    4. Can meryl speak russian? because tessa can. i bet meryl can but doesn't want to because she hates russia ;) ;)

    5. @7:28, I can only hope that comment about D/W was made in jest because if not, it's possibly one of the dumbest assumptions I've ever seen made about them.

      Delete
    6. half-jest ;)have you seen their 2011 skate-america fluff? so much russia bashing

      Delete
    7. Well, Russia bashing has always been the cornerstone of North American figure skating promotion. That's nothing new. Will the good guys defeat the Evil Empire. The fact that the cold war has been over for more than a generation hasn't seemed to change that approach. It was an approach that was always annoying in figure skating, because North American pairs and dance teams just weren't as good. To act like there was some conspiracy was insulting to the sport. Figure skating wasn't on the up and up in some ways, but the Russian skaters were clearly the best in those disciplines.

      Delete
    8. tessa and scott are north american and everytime they talk about COP vs 6.0 they never point fingers at russia nor do they bash them (maybe thats why more people in russia prefer them over d/w). really it seems like d/w were saying in the fluff that they consider themselves soo much better than the russian ice dancers that dominated in the past. and really the cold war may be over, but theres still alot of tension today between USA and russia. heck, i just finished reading an article where one american politician wants everyone to boycott the sochi olympics.

    9. Oh, I was talking mostly about the media slant. I haven't seen the piece on DW from Skate America. I'll check it out.

    10. Hi Oc,

I am not the anon at 11:21 am - but when I saw that fluff piece - it was cringeworthy. It speaks volumes to me at least and if I could I would love to have someone send that piece to the ISU judges and Russian federation...and it's ironic that D/W are/were coached by Russians...the hypocrisy...

    11. someone should send that to the russian feds lol

    12. I just saw a piece of it and what Meryl said is unbelieveable. First, to insinuate that somehow the system is improved because the SKATING is being rewarded under CoP, when the exact opposite is happening with DW.

There really is no limit to the hustle going on with DW. From the attempt to reframe VM as starting from second place (what else is the hue and cry about not enough points taken off at the last 4CC's about? They were second! DW's partisans are desperate to establish VM were never in a position to win even if they'd skated straight through) which is nothing but a direct attack on VM's skating ability. The incredibly political letter from the ISU on the topic of the interruption rule that says flat out skaters "misused" the rule LAST season (not in 2011 mind you, but LAST season). Who got the ISU to "act" on that so fast?

And I was reading a discussion on the VM thread on fsu. There was one fan who vividly described why VM's skating in their programs is better and a higher level of difficulty than DW's, has more content, more variety - and yet it is DW that is rewarded for those things.

Furthermore, DW partisans in the sport are simultaneously trying to paint them as both the underdog (their clear superiority threatened by corrupt forces that would put VM first) and a juggernaut that is simply going to "roll in" to a competition and take what's theirs by rights. They have no shame. According to DW propoganda, they by rights should be 3 time World champions. A team at the level of Virtue Moir couldn't possibly have legitimately defeated them even ONCE since Torino Worlds. That is the position their partisans even in the media are taking. They won by rights in Moscow in 2011. The sport became corrupt in 2012 because that is the only possible way Virtue Moir's Funny Face beat Die Fleudermaus. Then Virtue Moir tried to hijack a win in the 4CCs (even though they won the short program and were apparently ahead on GOE when they interrupted the long) by stopping and STILL it was corrupt because the message we're getting is the judges didn't take off ANY points. ANY points? They were in second place!! You know what that means, right? They start in second. Uninterrupted programs and ahead in the short - still second. The gall of these people.

Well of course they're not going to respect skating. VM's skating skills won't deter DW partisans from trashing VM because obviously if you're promoting DW as the Sochi gold medalists by rights you're not going to be having a whole lot of respect for skating skills to begin with.

It's amazing that in one of the few on the record D/W discussions of skating they claim CoP now rewards skating, when in their case, they're rewarded for NOT skating. They have taken marketing to truly Orwellian levels.

    13. What I hate about that fluff is that it takes objective comments from Punsalan/Swallow describing the Russian system and makes them sound sinister. They say it wasn't by accident that the Russians won - IMO, they mean because the Soviets had an excellent system for grooming the next generation. But the use of pictures and article headlines such as "new system better for skaters" casts a political tint on PS' words.

How can anyone not want to slap Charlie when he says "because we want it to be a sport like that"?

      Delete
    14. It's so weird because I wrote the new post above this one and described the Punsalen/Swallow framing with the exact same adjective - they tried to make what they were saying sound sinister. The horror of the Russian legacy! Their best skaters stayed in the sport and coached! There was always another great team to take the place of one that had retired! Something must be done!

  11. OC, out of curiosity, what's your take on the sportsnet photos of Tessa?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think the photoshoot was done really well. Both hers and the overall series. It's not trying to be salacious with a "let's celebrate fitness!" pretext. They are obviously fit, good looking bodies that the photo series is showing off, but the athletes come across like people, not models and not "just" bodies, and I liked the staging and locations.

I looked over on the Skate Canada facebook and I don't know what the problem is with those who found it inappropriate. She's perfectly appropriate. Not just the clothes, but the poses and the facial expressions and the camera angles. The whole tone is really well done. There's nothing exploitative in it.

      Delete
    2. Both the Bridal and sportsnet photo shoots are lovely and appropriate.

I've been having a good laugh at how Cassandra was set up as some kind of modeling competition to Tessa. What a stupid approach for a fake GF. It makes her look more than ever pathetic compared to Tessa's beauty and everything she embodies as an Olympic gold medalist.

Throughout this whole Olympic season and no doubt for a good many years afterwards, Tessa will be in demand for professional photo shoots - and she won't have to pay them, they'll pay her!

It would have been better for Cassandra to just play the role of the GF-at-home instead of the wanna-be model route. She'll lose every time.

      Delete
    3. I think she actually IS a wannabe model and her (and her brother's) desire to be in front of the camera may explain her signing on for the gig as Scott's sham gf. She seemed to be styling her gf persona the same way you style a photo and my God was it awful.

    4. "She seemed to be styling her gf persona the same way you style a photo and my God was it awful."

Well, they do specialize in awful. And inappropriate, and disgusting, and ridiculous, and....

But hey, the social media honey does get her face on a public page that people want to look at because of Scott (not her). In her mind that must be a win, no matter how pathetic and egotistic.

I can't wait to see what Cassandra will post next as an answer to the lovely Tessa in these photo shoots. Bwahahaha.

    5. Why wasn't Scott part of the SportsNet photoshoot? Oh yeah; Because He's a scrauny dork & has kind of a beer belly.lol

      Delete
    6. Anon at 3:43 pm - please - Scott does not have a beer belly and perhaps he is not the biggest guy in terms of size (but hell is he strong) - but if you look overall at the athletes that were chosen to date - the majority of them were summer Olympians and female - typically what would interest Sportsnet readers..I mean look did you see Sydney Crosby, Alex Bilodeau, Denny Morrison, other speed skaters, NHL players, snowboarders etc...I think Mr. Moir will be fine...As for dorky - yes he can come across as that next to Tessa but the guy has beautiful and strong features - which are not cookie-cutter. Lastly I think he will age well....but then again - different strokes for different folks...

      Delete
    7. I think Scott is very sexy and he could easily have pulled off a shoot like that. Love Tessa's pics :)

      Delete
    8. I love the photos too, and I think some of the negative comments on Skate Canada's facebook are asinine. Yes, I understand that a lot of photo shoots that magazines run pretend to be one thing - about the clothes, about "fitness" about body types, but are really the same old same old exploitative, objectifying bullshit.

OTOH, use your fucking brains. Not all photos of bodies are "objectifying". And to be explicit, Tessa has one of the most pronounced "s" curves in her lower back I've ever seen - is she meant to angle her body so she looks like she has a different silhouette? That's contrived and pathetic. Also, in any photo shoot of athletes, the focus is going to be abs. That's at the core of an athlete's capability; that's their power center.

I also appreciated that a lot of the clothing in the photo shoot was street wear labels a lot of regular people buy themselves.

      Delete
    9. OC - the hypocrisy runs deep with some of these comments on SCs webpage. Tessa and Scott have always worn very classy costumes on the ice whether for competitions or exhibitions. Then you have Piper Gilles in her get-up this year for their exhibitions which is similar to Tessa's get-up etc and nobody took offense to that. Yes perhaps we should have called out Paul Poirier and Janvier Fernandez for their short shorts this year...on the ice no less...and these are fans that no doubt think Carmen should be skated by 11 and 12 year olds...

      Delete
    10. Anon here at 11:49 am - just to add didn't Piper this year wear short shorts during one of the practice sessions before the judges in one of their competitions? Hmmm and that was so appropriate...rolls eyes...

      Delete
    11. Of course it's hypocritical. Skaters wear more revealing clothing in galas at every competition. The "Playboy" references there are just dumb.

Another aspect of this photo series that I enjoyed is that, unlike in Playboy, there was no attempt to standardize the looks or body of the athletes. What's usual for this sort of thing is to spray tan the photo subjects to within an inch of their lives, body oil them til they're shiny and greasy, and then pump up the hair. And please at least one photo of the woman sprawled on the floor or across something. (See Jamie Sale and Tanith Belbin's photo shoots).

While obviously all of the athletes here were super fit, the photographer and editor didn't attempt to make anybody's body conform to a type. Their bodies are their bodies. Everybody looks good, but it's nice to see that if they're pale, it's okay, if they've got a reserved personality, it's okay to see that as well.
