I scrolled around FSU and Goldenskate today, saw things I'd missed.

Incredible lines on Tessa, observed FSU.

Yes.

My body, my choice means you can make yourself a literal giant on twitter if you want. You go Tessa. #MyInspiration.

Not to mention: The mega-swollen right knee and the right foot as long as the left shin. I think the ISU should recruit judges from the ranks of fsu screen names. Powers of observation don't come more acute.

ETA - speaking of photoshop.

Some months back I saw this image again and this time noticed that Scott's left leg was disintegrating.  Huh. I wondered what/why they'd photoshopped, but moved on w/out scrutinizing the rest of the picture. The bottom of his right leg is also beginning to dematerialize. Today I took another look and noticed the rightward swirls on his t-shirt, on the same plane and matching the leftward swirl on Cassandra's dress. It appears to me that someone got out ye old warp tool to make it seem like Scott's hand was pulling up C's dress a bit. So the bottom line is someone got out the toolbox in order to make this picture more titillating than it actually was, and then made it CH's profile shot. I'm also curious about the hair Scott appears to be touching, because when you go in, the hair is "blowing in the wind" in an odd pattern and seems to be over his hand rather than occupying the same space.

  1. I'm much more interested in OC's comment last post that there are now three little Moirs.

    1. How many little Moirs did you think there were?

      Delete
    2. One, little moir #1 because that was the only one confirmed. Do we know for a fact there's two new additions or is it just inference?

      Delete
    3. For me it's inference on the other two, but I'm not going to pretend the woman wasn't obviously pregnant twice after the birth of LM, nor that Kaitlyn Lawes abruptly vanished as soon as LM V.3 arrived.

      Delete
  2. With the advent of instagram, they went photoshop-happy. So much easier to pretend. It's still on them that they put out this kind of story.

Was photoshop available to them when Jessica Dube was the official girlfriend? With her, it looks like Scott actually had to engage in all the intimate-posing in the abundance of pictures they put out.

Zach Donohue doesn't appear to be taking advantage of the photoshopping. Whatever is going on there, he and his bar-star lady come across disgusting.

    1. Bar-star child is more correct. She's 19. A teenager. A child. It is a sham, and it is disgusting.

Before they started part 2 with this sham and the shamming was just Madi and Adria, Zach tended to still post normally about Madi and HD were acting their normal selves after their skates, during practices and warm-ups at competitions, etc. There is a group of fans on twitter who completely buy the lies, and in mental gymnastics trying to reconcile the sham output to HD's behavior, coined the hashtag #poorzach. When Olivia was introduced, even those fans largely were put-off and lost interest. Now, those lie-buying fans are tweeting things like this: https://twitter.com/ach_nein/status/771026465106325504

    2. Scott would have to have a much stronger grip on CH's dress than he appears to have in order to create that bunched up tornado affect of it twisting both left and right. At the time, I thought the image was absolutely trolling, trying to middle-finger fans. But who knew someone actually manipulated it to make it more provocative and troll the fans.

Nobody liked Jessica either, #poorScott was implicit in every remark, and I think that only egged everything on. This is figure skating now. At the very least, it's ice dance. Who knows. Skating is still a pretty marginal sport. It's still a cottage industry. Maybe provoking fans like this feels validating. "They know we're here!" Some skaters get feedback via healthy fan engagement - see the Shibs.

    3. If Hubbell Donohue fans are going to perch on social media, publicly commenting on the Olivia Smart social media output, they will end up inspiring it, directing it, and participating in it. That's a built in focus group. What pisses them off? What are the theories? What gets them going? They'd be better off taking it off line or in a non-public discussion. If they don't believe it, they can and IMO should say so publicly, but as far as the analysis goes, they're just going to be exploited.

    4. I suspected at the time that the butt-grab photo originally appeared that they were photoshopping at least some stuff, but I didn't look too hard at that one at the time.

One thing that VM have not done is show video of one of Scott's fake girlfriends kissing his bicep. That's what happened today in the HD sham. I don't think Instagram stories can be viewed through a regular web browser on a computer, but they did post the video as a story on Olivia's instagram account.

Between VM and HD, the TSL trip to Montreal is probably going to turn into Shamageddon.

    5. There are the HD fans like the #poorzach group on twitter who believe the lies. There are us who have lived this once already with VM. We said very little publicly since the start of this, and nothing about the baby until now. It's all been discussed via private channels. Part of it was a realization that if we were talking about it publicly, it would have some sort of influence. We also didn't want to give them the attention. As you said in a comment on the previous entry though, it's important for fans not to consent to being lied to. Because of my experiences as a VM fan, I see straight through HD. Seeing straight through it, I still don't like being lied to. HD's personal life is their business, but as with VM, when they started lying to and hoaxing fans, it became my business because I am a fan and they are lying to me and trying to hoax me.

Exactly how, exactly where, and exactly how much to call out with HD's behavior are questions I don't have an answer to yet. Not saying anything wasn't going to stop them from shamming, but saying things is going to have an influence in what shape their sham takes.

    6. Just to clarify in case I'm being unclear, the twitter accounts linked to are people who believe that HD really broke up and that Madi is really dating Adria and that Zach is really with Olivia now. Of course those people don't know they're driving social media because they think the output is the truth not fiction. Some of these people were literally involved in the creation of the FSU-similar cesspit that ontd_skating on livejournal (replace FSU's "insider" bitchiness with teen girl mean girl bitchiness). In otherwords, they're they gullible, gossipy, easily-played type that these shams prey on to sell their lies to.

HD's fandom is small, but can generally be grouped into four sections.

      1. The fans like those in the linked twitter accounts, plus a few others on twitter and tumblr. They're into gossip, they're gullible, and buy the sham hook, line, and sinker. They discuss the sham like it's a soap opera. There are easily fewer than 10 people in this group, but I think a lot of sham gets hand-crafted for them.

      2. Fans that aren't so much into gossip, although they occasionally comment on the personal stuff, but buy the lies because of goodwill and not wanting to think skaters they admire would lie to them.

      3. Sham-aware VM fans who know exactly what HD are pulling because we have lived this all before.

      4. People who follow skating who believe the lies because of goodwill but really don't care because they'd rather talk about skating. Ironincally a good chunk of the few people who discuss HD on FSU because FSU doesn't seem in general too interested in this or they're put off and just don't want to talk about it.

  3. should we expect any videos of VM at HPC of any substance?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 2:26. What kind of substance were you hoping for?

HPC has never produced much substance. It's about the skaters showing their programs to TPTB, not the public. Canned interviews to be used during the season. Other SC business.

SC promotes HPC to the fans but in reality it's not for the fans.

  5. VM did the right, sensible thing and stayed out of Montreal for the duration of Dave Lease's visit.

HD did a 37 minute sit-down interview with him. Other than lying by omission about being married parents, the interview was mostly free of sham and they came across as the likeable people they were before they started shamming and moved to Montreal. There is a brief sham drop early in the interview where Dave Lease mentions that Zach's mother had said she wanted Madi and Zach to get back together. I'm not sure what their intention is with this. Baiting? Trying to drive a narrative with the fewer than 20 fans who seem to have their attention on social media? The bulk of the sham is confined to 3 1/2 minute segment between about 24:30 and 28:00. They tried hard to emulate VM.

Zach: "I think no matter what we say, people are going to debate [if we're together] one way or the other."

There really isn't any debate. The easily and willfully fooled believe them and then there are the few of us calling out the sham here.

Madi talks about fans constructing narratives online despite what they show on social media.

The fans doing the narrative constructing online are the fans who believe their lies. It's what we've seen for years with the willfully blind VM fans.

In this discussion, Dave Lease makes a comment about online fans not being the smartest. I'll give him that, but it's the people who buy HD's social media lies that aren't smart. It's also an attempt to paint anyone who calls it out as stupid. It's the up is down and the down is up that is so prevalent in all aspects of ice dance.

Dave tries to throw out a fan baiting scenario. "I think you should play this up this season. Some well thought-out Instagram post before Nationals, maybe, like a little handholding photo with some shadows and a nice filter, and then you could like use the lyrics..."

Madi sort of mocks a fan gift for highlighting photos of them after a program instead of doing skating moves.

They move on to talking about program-kissing or near-kissing. It's like wandering into a VM fan discussion from 2010.

A few of us talked about this and none of us can ever remember fans discussing this subject when it comes to HD. It's like when Tessa tried to claim fans thought bad things about her because of Carmen.

Dave said he wants Japanese fan blogs and videos debating if HD kiss in a program.

Madi claims to be slightly terrified by the Japanese paparazzi that follow Javi and Miki. Sure she is. Insert a rolling eyes gif. HD really don't have to worry about paparazzi.

I will give Zach credit for stating that he trained in Canton for awhile and that VM and DW's fire came out being competitive in runthroughs*, not drama.

*that all of us know that VM were winning because DW could not skate

Much like VM, HD still have the ability to come across as good people, and as their old selves, in interviews. The sham is cringeworthy though. It's chameleon behavior that contributes to the willfully blind buying sham.

    1. Where does the rumor come from that they're married ? Is there any valid information on this one ?

      Delete
  6. In the past, it's been made very clear here several times over that no one is going to publicly divulge their sources or how they know the truth about VM. Likewise, for the same reasons, no one is going to publicly reveal information about exactly how they know about HD either.

    1. So basically you have no idea what you're talking about.

    2. Why is everybody so scared to reveal their sources ? If you don't want to tell how you know what you allegedly know, fine, but you sure can tell us why you don't want to reveal them.
A marriage is a pretty open thing, even if it's secret, a lot of people would still know about it and nobody could ever trace the Information back to you. Especially not on an anonymous board like this. The ISU doesn't care much about a third rate team like HD either so they wouldn't try to come after you either.
So what are you so afraid of ? It really makes no sense to act this secretive.

( And please don't just give me a passive aggressive non-answer , as it usually is the case on this board. It shouldn't be too difficult to answer this normally, right ?).

      Delete
    3. This subject has been discussed in depth before, but I'll go over it again. I'm not typing in a passive-aggressive tone.

We don't reveal sources out of respect for the source with the idea being based on protection of journalistic sources. Protection of journalistic sources goes by different names in different countries, but it's a right in many countries and according to international laws. It's about protecting people who have information that they feel should be known but who might face consequences of some sort for speaking out. Consequences aren't necessarily legal, professional, or financial, although they can be, a consequence can be losing access to a person or entity. The concept is that without protection of sources, people would be less willing to speak up and it would impede the flow of information.

"A marriage is a pretty open thing, even if it's secret, a lot of people would still know about it and nobody could ever trace the Information back to you. Especially not on an anonymous board like this. The ISU doesn't care much about a third rate team like HD either so they wouldn't try to come after you either."

Again, not being passive-aggressive in my tone, but there are a lot of fallacy here that I can see would be easy to jump to. As far as tracing information, skating is a small and insular world. If I were to describe how I know about VM or how I know about HD would in reality make it fairly easy for others with knowledge to figure out who my sources are. Consequently, my sources lose their own access to information and I betray a trust granted to me when my sources shared their information with me.

When it comes down to it, we don't reveal sources or explain exactly how we ended up knowing what we do in order to protect insiders and other individuals who'd be in a position to know stuff but merit privacy protection. Out of respect, we protect people for whom there could be consequences of some sort for revealing this information.

I disagree on HD being a third rate team. They qualified for the GPF, were 6th at worlds last season, and are seeded on the GP circuit this season. They may have a fourth rate coach and choreographer, but they're one of the top teams in ice dance now. The ISU has a lot of agendas and I think evidence over the past four years shows that they care about a lot of things you wouldn't think they'd care about. I think it is always to ones detriment to make guesses on what and whom the ISU does and does not care about. It's an organization that could pretty easily have the label La Cosa Nostra applied to it.

There is a lot out there about the protection of journalistic sources. As a start, I like this article, http://journalism.cmpf.eui.eu/discussions/on-protection-of-journalistic-sources/. You can google and find a lot of resources for the subject.

I hope this helps you understand at least a little bit about why we protect our sources when it comes to VM and now HD.

    1. Canadablue, thank you. I look forward to following your blog throughout the season.

I hope good and reliable figure skating sites, such as yours and Two for the Ice, get the recognition and traction they deserve. So much of what passes for skating media or analysis is nothing but gossip (like David Lease's garbage) or PR in favor of one team over another, regardless of the skating (such as Ice Network--what a joke).

    2. Welcome! :)

I wouldn't put myself in the same category as TFTI, I'm only an amateur and I just accept that mainly my role is preaching to the choir ;)

But totally agree that TFTI is the best skating media outlet out there by a long shot. I tweeted a few weeks ago how disgusted I was that TSL can rake in thousands of dollars so Dave can go on roadtrips - with which he always undelivers, he certainly suckered some V/M fans who expected him to share stuff about them on his latest trip - whereas TFTI's Patreon raises like $20 a month or something.

The straight line sequence is nowhere near the standard set by their last short dance in Sochi

Their skating is of course unreal

    1. That's going to be a trend. The ISU changed the requirements for the straight line sequence this year. Only 5 difficult steps are required.

Their skating was indeed divine. On one of the fancams, Tessa literally disappears during Scott's twizzle, that's how in sync they are.

I'm not sure if OC follows skating closely anymore. I do not know her but just from her comments it sounds like she checks in and catches up on skating news every couple of weeks. Perhaps she is unaware they are competing before SC, otherwise I think she would have started a new post.
