Football, FIFA, Figureskating

I don't know, I feel that for the past six years, in many ways, figure skating, on and off the ice, is the real deflate gate.*
Sports are more than metaphor. Most boys adore sports because of the athletic aesthetic, trust in the final score and that both were attained by fair play. It’s what distinguishes the NFL from the WWE.
We assume one has old-school behemoths who play within the lines, and the rules, and the other has juiced-up behemoths who win by breaking the rules like a chair over a bulging back. Once the laws are more malleable, then the line between fact and fiction becomes obscured. We no longer know the difference between pro football and pro wrestling.
Jason Keidel, CBS Los Angeles
Keidel should get with the present century and substitute "people" for "boys" (WTF?), but it's nice Keidel has his ideals, and believes it’s still possible to preserve/defend select sports from the culture of fraud, instead of joining the chorus telling us none of it makes any difference. All the sports journalists are using the WWW as the point of no return. Baseball, football, soccer, dear God, get your house in order or you’ll end up like the WWW. A circus act. Not a sport.

OTOH, maybe if sports journalists thought "boys" watched figure skating, they'd give a shit that it's corrupt, and the line between fact and fiction has disappeared. I believe a significant component of figure skating's problem is its demographic. It has a demographic everybody thinks they can shit on. If it were perceived to have "boys" in its demo, figure skating might tread more carefully.

Figure skating is much more fraudulent than wrestling. If, in the WWW, cheating happens so Behemoth A defeats Behemoth B, at least Behemoth A actually did defeat Behomith B. The referee doesn't use a wet towel to slap awake the guy laid out unconscious on the mat after a knockout, haul him to his feet and declare him the victor.

In American football’s deflategate, depressurizing footballs allowed Tom Brady better purchase on the ball, so it would sail when thrown, not drop like a brick. If football were like figure skating, Tom Brady could literally throw a brick, or nothing but interceptions, and be awarded touchdowns anyway.

Figure skaters such as Ashley Wagner have tried to sell the blurred lines between sport and melodrama as part of figure skating’s appeal. And certainly Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir are here to remind us figure skating is a joke.**

After Vancouver 2010, which was marketed as the Integrity Figure Skating Olympics, figure skating 180’d towards the “It’s all about melodrama, personalities, entertainment and marketing!” route Wagner has embraced. That’s fine, except then you're no longer a legitimate Olympic sport. You're a Kardashian. Scott is, Tessa is, Davis and White are, and, come to how it handles itself off-ice, more people, like Kaitlyn Lawes and @jonescurl join in. Role modeling their hearts out on social media while lying through their teeth and hoaxing their supporters.

I wish figure skating could be exposed the way international soccer is exposed, the way the deal making and hard core corruption in FIFA is exposed. All it would take is a mainstream journalist actually reading the Code of Points, and spending a little bit of time on youtube familiarizing themselves with some basic edgework and steps. Throw up some screen caps and video shorts while asking a couple of questions about how the two were connected on the protocols. That’s it. Nobody, not even those who have written about figure skating for decades, have bothered to do that. Fans have done it, but unless that's acknowledged, it's like a tree falling in a forest. Back to the demographic - I believe if football fans, or fans of perceived "masculine" sports were pointing out this this type of evidence on line, sports journalists would pay attention.

The FIFA international criminal investigation and arrests are being driven by international financial crime laws, not sports regulation violations that are investigated internally, and penalized internally with fines, suspensions, and banning.

I look at what happened with figure skating in 2014 at the Grand Prix final and Sochi, and in its fundamentals, it looks a whole lot closer to FIFA than deflategate. But we’re talking pocket change, probably, compared to the sums at stake with FIFA wheeling and dealing. The principle, though, is similar. Dore, Retstatt and Lavoit didn’t cooperate to bring about Davis and White’s Olympic victory without getting something tangible out of the deal for themselves.

Even those who write about figure skating with enthusiasm are simultaneously a bit embarrassed to do so, and wouldn’t be caught dead taking it seriously. If they did take it seriously, they’d actually bother to know what they’re talking about, and be willing to engage with others who know what they’re talking about. Instead, fans and everyone else who takes it seriously as a sport are shut down.

Figure skating remains an Olympic sport, and shouldn’t be as it conducts itself now. I feel like there are figure skating fans waving their arms, trying to signal some attention from various regulatory or investigative entities, and the helicopters just refuse to see them, disappearing into the horizon.

If you don’t know what’s happening on the field of play, there is no way to recognize the empirical evidence that demonstrates corruption has taken place. It’s right in front of everybody’s face, but if everybody pretends not to know what’s there, it’s hopeless. Worse, when corruption in figure skating does get attention, most of it has been ginned up bullshit used as misdirection from real corruption.

How cute - Scott reassures Tessa that her pre-competition
rituals weren't that crazy. He's evolved so much since
"Tessa and Scott", where her every personality quirk
grated on his nerves to the point where he appeared to
be manfully clenching his jaw so as not to sock
her in the face. One more leap forward and maybe these
crazy kids will finally get together.
On another front, I think I’ve temporarily mislaid many of my “Drunk Scott” jpgs. I started looking for them after half-watching Mad Men’s season finale (for me, an exercise in “you have that to work with and you did that with it?"), and at several junctures I was reminded of social media Scott:

The left is Season 4, where the sick on Draper's shirt is
precisely where we usually find Scott's beer drool, and
the right from the series finale is from Mad Men
Screencaps with Things Drawn on Them
http://madmenwiththingsdrawnonthem.tumblr.com/page/2
Donald Draper is a middle-aged man in the grip of a long-running, destructive and painful existential crisis featuring a pitifully tenuous grip on his sense of self, while when we've see Scott in this condition, we assume he's just being masculine. I hope Kaitlyn has been a sobering influence.

Scott role modeling proper usage of the possessive and
plural on mother's day.

*For its fans. Psychologically.

**Which is sad, because both are much more articulate and far more informed than Scott Hamilton and Sandra Bezic, but that's not why NBC hired them. NBC has decided figure skating is a camp event. Fine, but, which, again, not an Olympic-eligible sport.

  1. What I can't wrap my head around is how nobody in the ISU, the governing body, cares about the corruption. After Sochi, when every news outlet was covering the Yuna/ Adelina Gold medal scandal, you would think that something would be done. I guess they don't care about the transparency, or lack there of (seriously when are they going to vote in transparent judging?!?).

    1. The ISU IS the corruption. If you look at what had to have happened to get Davis and White the gold, it is a fiat from the top down. Then check out Canadian David Dore's influence in Canada, and how Virtue and Moir were treated at their championships, and how Skate Canada rolled over for Davis White.

Entities OUTSIDE the ISU have to care about the corruption. Figure skating can't verify itself. That's what sports journalists do all the time. They summon up a few "inside skating" sources, get played, more misdirection and erroneous issues are disseminated, and things keep on keeping on. All of these journalists are capable of going directly to the real source - the rulebook, and the actual figure skating. None ever do. It's in plain sight.

When I see how VM were thrown under the bus it makes me so angry. Of course it had to be from the top of the ISU. Look how all the skating "journalists" and TV commentators were saying the same things. They were all told what to say.

You are right, it would have to take someone from outside the sport to investigate and bring about any kind of accountability. I used to think the parents of the many many skaters who were screwed over for the ISU's agendas would be a force for change. But no, they're just as scared of tptb as all the rest in that sport. It's a mafia kind of control. Very disheartening for fans who love figure skating, and icedance in particular.

    3. In the end, Scott and Tessa and the Moirs have to collaborate because Scott's family is in business with Skate Canada. They really set themselves up. It's a cesspool.

    4. Look at was NOT said by Skate Canada after the GPF outcome. These are the most pompous crowd of grandiose whiners in existence and it was silence.

We also have to speculate at this point that William Thompson's seemingly abrupt exit prior to the London Worlds, that he was all over before suddenly pulling the plug, might have something to do with Thompson not comfortable getting on board with the corruption scheme giving Davis and White the gold.

I think parents don't do anything because it's such a small community, they don't want backlash, those who are in position to get rewarded just want to make nice and hope they're rewarded, not much caring whether the reward is merited by anything produced in competition.

I'm not really sure what @jonescurl and Virtue Moir believe they're accomplishing with this I'll scratch your back, we'll scratch yours routine, although it all certainly gives Virtue Moir an excuse to continue shamming through the next Olympic cycle. "We have to - Kaitlyn is competing in 2022!" Is Kaitlyn gay? We all know how Canada feels about that, and it would be incredibly typical of Canadian media to celebrate Anastiasia Bucsis while "protecting" Kaitlyn Lawes. I don't normally speculate about people's sexuality because it's not relevant unless they force it on us (such as Scott's strenuous heterosexuality that simply screams out the gay panic among the Moirs), but she's shamming for a reason and it's normal to wonder what the reason is.

Just for my own information, I think I'm going to start compiling a list of all the people in the media, and all the people in public life, who know Scott and Tessa are married parents but proactively gaslight the public about it. Particularly those in the media and public relations who court public attention and approval.

    6. Yes, k lawes did become part of the soi tour just like a groupie. Scott flew to Japan and attended her competitions --- this must be the latest version of Making-the-sham-look-real.

It's genius, actually. The general public attributes it to romantic devotion but Scott and k lawes hardly need to interact nor do any of that pseudo cuddling so prevalent with Jessica and Cassandra.

    7. No real boyfriend with Scott's career would fly to Japan to attend the competitions. They stay home and tweet support. Tanith didn't follow Charlie around the world. She didn't even attend Worlds 2011. It's too expensive when your SO is an international competitor. You'd be a roadie. Scott had other business in Japan.

I assume the jewelry Tessa hawks is dipped in Lindt chocolate. They love synergy.

The blog has pointed out that The Kardiashians is a thousand times more authentic than anything in "Tessa and Scott", but we all know if any Kardashian gave Tessa or Scott a second look, Tessa would bff them on twitter faster than you can say ChrissyTeigen. It would be very interesting to know how these personal ambitions played a part in her tenure as Scott Moir's girlfriend. All the girlfriends have come across self absorbed and pathetic. The present incarnation, KL, is no exception.

  15. Tumbler shipper girls trying so damn hard to "be respectful" toward kaitlyn lawes (and also ryan semple for that matter). If they knew/believed kaithlyn lawes was a fake girlfriend they would not have to tiptoe around the issue.

Let's call it what it is. A person who agrees to the role of "GF" with a married father, who is clearly in love with his wife, is an opportunist. Kaitlyn lawes should have no need of looking for perks via Scott Moir - being herself a gold medalist in her own right. However, that was not enough. She saw an opportunity to (hopefully) expand her fan base and her popularity and she grabbed it. The issue of lies, hoaxes, deceit, personal moral standards - what's that? Eh.

Upthread someone was mad that comments were insulting of these people. Well, yes, attacking their physical attributes is crossing the line. How a person looks is not related to their character. But it's perfectly fine to call out someone's bad behaviour. Kaitlyn lawes and VM are behaving badly. For reasons unknown, VM are terrified of being found out as a normal married couple. They hire fake BF/GF's. Those fake BF/GF's have to be of questionable character to agree to this charade.

Good for kaitlyn lawes. She's getting more exposure than if she were just a curler. Also apparently free trips and who knows what other perks. But as a person to look up to? No. She's shown her ass as self-absorbed and opportunistic, as have all her Team Jones teammates and their husbands.

    1. klawes has more twitter foloowers than tessa. also, can someone please post a pic of virtue/moir making out or some king of very obvious smoking gun evidence. it's gotten so pathetic. as far as im concerned, they're waiting for next olympics for big "reveal"

    2. 9:24: there is no evidence of a relationship between Tessa and Scott because they are not a couple for gods sake.

If they were a couple you would have seen pictures a long time ago use your common sense.

  16. "Hillberg & Berk values one principle above all others: empowering women."

I don't know what the deal with Tessa is. All I know is, Hillberg & Berk claims to have a certain set of values. So I, as possible purchaser of said company's products, am going to look at the people H&B chooses to work with and sell their products.

When you google "Tessa Virtue," this blog appears. The blogger has repeatedly claimed that what she's writing is FACT not fiction. So I begin to wonder, if what the blogger is saying isn't true, why hasn't Tessa sued the blogger and/or google? A-listers like Brad Pitt, who you could argue are too famous to care about petty lies, sue media that publish lies all the time. You know why? Because NO ONE is too famous not to care about lies that are published about them. Some people, however, do let lies persist because they think they somehow enhance their image, rather than detract. Or, it's a case of any publicity is good publicity.

Tessa Virtue is not that big a star that "any publicity is good publicity." She's trying to craft a specific image of herself. I'm not quite seeing how claims that she's hiding a husband and daughter are enhancing her image. What I do see is that when she's touted by H&B as having a certain set of values, it's natural that the listener is going to want to learn more. When the listener comes to this website, it becomes confusing.

Why hasn't this website been dealt with by Tessa? It's easy enough -- if she can prove the blogger is lying about her, Google would shut this down in an instant. I'd think it's one of the first things she'd do know that she's striking out into the world of business.

    1. Sorry but when go google Tessa Virtue this blog doesn't show up. . . .

And I think Tessa has more important things to deal with then some little minded whore on the internet who is clearly some stalker.

The assumption that this blog could tarnish her image is also dumb. People aren't so quick to believe what they read on the internet, because you know, they have COMMON SENSE. And if some business was even dumb enough to entertain the idea of there being a sham all they had to do was some research. Show up on her front door step or something else.

      And as an aside:
Tessa IS a strong woman. She is one of the best ice dancers of all time and she has dealt with her own injuries to get to where she is today. She is FIT. She is SMART. She is CREATIVE. So please stop bashing her and do not disregard all of her accomplishments just because you are jealous of her and can't deal with the fact that she is in a relationship with Scott.

    2. Some skaters have threatened to sue over stuff that was posted on FSU, stuff that certainly isn't that easy to find in a quick google search. This blog isn't hard to find and its general contents are well known in skating circles. The absence of legal action isn't proof of anything, of course, but it is rather strange.

    3. It's especially strange considering that Tessa's father is a lawyer.

  17. My, my, someone is very angry about a blog written by a psycho-stalker-small-minded-whore. There are so many tin-foil-hat blogs out there - maybe you should go and excercise some of that anger on them? Why so invested? Because you're the designated Moirville rep with so little to do this summer, you've been allocated the role of firefighting this crazy theory? That most people who are fans of VM don't even believe? That's a very valuable use of your time, I'm sure.

    1. Of course people are invested. Those who visit this blog are hardcore fans. Most of them are just genuinely confused about how there's still someone who believes in a blog theory when Lawes is seen in a company of Scott waaaaay more often than Tessa.

    2. Lawes doesn't leave him alone at all. She's on some kind of Scott spree. SOI - Mexico - Scotland - ? . Guess it will be like that until her competitive season starts

If it was a fake relationship they would just meet up for pictures a couple of times a month. Faking a relationship wouldn't require being with a fake partner 24/7 but Scott and Kaitlyn do it that way.

" Faking a relationship wouldn't require being with a fake partner 24/7 but Scott and Kaitlyn do it that way"

Really now? From a picture you KNOW their together not only 24/7 but he spends more time KLawes than with Tessa. You do know how pictures work right?

    5. What I'm interested in is why are there so many pictures of Scott and Kaitlyn but none of Tessa and Ryan?

      Delete
    6. @11.21 SOI, Mexico and Scotland are 2 months of Kaitlyn's time. Not impressive at all?

I do know how pictures work. I also do know that for this particular one KL had to make her way to another continent. Not a big deal at all. Poor Kaitlyn. She gave up on her family, business and career to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to stand next to Scott on a picture where one could barely recognize them. And of course Tessa ran to hide as soon as she saw the camera!

    7. Scott and Kaitlyn both have busy careers as celebrity athletes. Fakery #1 is giving the impression they have time on their hands to follow the SO around the world to each other's events. That's ridiculous. If Scott is in Japan he had personal business to coincide with sham. Same for KL in Scotland. You can bet she has her own business agendas.

It's stupid to take any photo, tweet or narrative they put out at face value. It all ends up contradicting past or future narratives. Anyone following VM these many years knows that.

      Delete
    8. @3.59 I'm following VM for 6 years and no,it doesn't contradict any narrative for me. If Scott had some business in Japan it would be skating related and we would have known already.

He also apparently had some business on Mexican beaches last week

      Delete
    9. "Business" can mean friends/family he could visit or spend some time with. He may have spent only a short time at any of the places where pictures were taken and gone elsewhere afterwards. Same with Kaitlyn in Scotland.

      Delete
  18. 4:16. You're serious? You think fans would know if Scott had business in Japan? Bwahaha.

Fans only know about 1% of what VM are about. You have not followed them with any kind of intelligent observation if you don't see the constant and myriad inconsistencies. Their PR is agenda-driven and manipulative.

    1. I know nothing about Maksyl or their fans but why don't you criticize what's actually being said so we could have a real discussion? There's a distinct lack of measured, intelligent comments from the people who disagree with the premise of this blog. And if it's so silly that it isn't worth your time then why come here and disparage it?

    2. 6:07: BEST COMMENT EVER!!!

    3. 6:27, there's a lack of intelligent comments from those who believe the premise of the blog too. (Though I don't deny there are dumb comments on the non-believing side too.) Usually criticism of the discussion is met with condescending comments meant to effectively shut down any conversation. I don't actually think the premise of the blog is totally ridiculous. I do think the sham reasonings for why Scott was in Japan and Mexico, why KLawes was on tour for 7 shows, and why she is in Scotland right now don't make any sense though.

      Delete
    4. 9:24. The thing is, when have the sham reasonings ever made sense? I believe lawes is a fake gf but I can't say anything they've been doing makes sense. What I see is these people ramping up in ways that are unprecedented. Lawes effectively has become like the spokesperson for this Scotland trip. It's all kinds of strange and grotesque, but are any of the real facts essentially changed? I would say no. This ott, in your face shamming is going in a new direction. Too bad for VM who are digging themselves deeper and deeper.

      Delete
    5. The "sham reasonings" are just people guessing, we don't really know how or why they do things. But their goal is to make the idea of a sham so unbelievable to fans that they'll dismiss it. Why are they willing to put in so much effort to convince a handful of fans on the Internet? It's obviously not rational behaviour, you can't look at it that way. People get boxed in when they assume they know what VM would do/what makes sense. But we don't know what makes sense in their warped way of looking at things. It's better to assume that VM could choose to do absolutely anything and then look at what's out there with an open mind.

      ^^ This.

It's like that person upthread saying that if Scott had been in Japan for some other business besides curling, we would know because he would have told us/the general public. What?? There are years of VM PR history that shows just how warped their thinking is. It's incredible anyone would think VM will be upfront about anything -- that what they're doing would be known simply because they would share that with fans. They have *never* shared with complete sincerity. They put out half-truths/half-lies. One never knows for sure where the line is between fiction and reality when it comes to their public personas.

As for this latest PR event in Scotland. In spite of knowing this about them, that the thinking is warped, I'm astounded. How did an event announced since a year ago, that was to feature the celebrity athlete team of VM, all of a sudden become about Scott and Kaitlyn Lawes and/or just Tessa on her own? Kaitlyn is front and center and the *team* of VM is lost amidst the shuffle of including a third person who, according to PR narrative, takes precedence in Scott's life before Tessa. Tessa has effectively been pushed to the side for the sake of a hoax. It's quite the disgusting thing to observe. This is a prime example of that twisted thinking that's been going in camp VM for a long time. It's futile to try and make sense of it.

    7. @10.53 I never said Scott would tell us about his business in Japan lol. Of course he wouldn't. I've just assumed that the only business he could have had there is skating related and we would find it out from other sources. What other business could he possibly be having in Japan?

Besides he really was present in the stands every day since he arrived to Japan

I've seen speculations regarding Scott working for the TV station that was broadcasting in Japan. Same TV agency that VM worked with during SC and Canadian Nationals, and that also announced to the public that Scott and KL found love in Sochi.

If Scott is looking to a future in sports broadcasting, he needs to know and understand curling, which is so popular in Canada. There are things to learn about the game itself, about the broadcasting. There's also a need to network with tptb for future opportunities, etc. It makes sense that Scott has been following curling, and working to prepare for broadcasting opportunities.
