Kaitlyn Lawes' twitter post split in two

There will be a new post later (but probably after the weekend), and the commments section is getting unmanageable again. I've split the twitter post to open up a new comments section.

*******

What if an athlete pretended to be an orphan, talked about the challenges of growing up without parents, did a reality show built around their background as an orphan, but meantime, his/her parents, who raised them, were alive, well and helping to write the script?

What if an athlete were single, but presented himself/herself on social media as married with kids, hired people to fill those roles, and their entire network of fellow athletes/media personalities/sponsors thought there was no problem with it and helped him/her market this version of themselves? Did a lot of second hand image drops showing him/her enjoying vacations/events/outings with their "family"?

Is the reason we don't see more stunts like [Scott and Tessa's hoax] a matter of media self-policing, not broadcast rules and regulations? (Although after Scott and Tessa have normalized it, surely we'll see comparable situations going forward.) Suppose the tabloid media didn't follow the participants in a show like The Bachelor, didn't pay for dirt on the participants, didn't routinely uncover stories, background and other information that runs independently of ABC's narrative on the show. Would the ABC broadcast network have any problems casting a married or gay man as The Bachelor vis a vis a bunch of married or gay women, or women in committed, serious relationships as the candidates for the final rose, promoting them as single, available, and hoping to find love on the show? How come ABC doesn't do that if the absolute opposite of the truth is legitimate material for a reality program? I'm guessing if they did, it would fine with standards and practices, fine with the FTC, but they couldn't pull it off because they'd be exposed by the tabloids and the public would no longer buy into the show, and that's all. There's no regulation that says they can't do that, as long as it's produced by an entertainment division, and the fact that it's the entertainment division supersedes any marketing hocus pocus. Read the label people, and ignore the marketing.

Where is all of this Scott and Tessa lying as marketing leading?

When all of this gets imported to twitter and is combined with direct marketing of Lindt and pb chocolate milk, how okay is it?

It looks to me that Scott and Tessa exploit the cracks in the wall - working the fact that their chosen reps aren't familiar with figure skating, skating culture, or their past practices, that the media doesn't follow the sport or its personalities, or that Scott and Tessa have a habit of changing their stories.

When I've read reactions to Robin Williams' death, there was this article:

Social media cross-promotion

with this central observation:
I'm talking about a trend that's repeating itself whenever someone famous passes away, and it's one that's almost unique to big news websites. Namely: how can they turn the death of someone famous into as many mouse clicks and screen taps as possible? Within hours of Williams' death, the internet was awash with stories examining every possible angle, each vying for your attention. There's something deeply unsettling about it, yet it now appears to be The Way Things Are Done.
*******
To put this into context: a man, who had been suffering (and that's exactly the word) from depression, one of the least understood illnesses on the planet, took his own life. He was 63, was survived by a wife and three children, all of whom were left trying to put the pieces of their lives back together. They were greeted by stories looking at any possible angle from which to get traffic to a website.
Shit, Ford Motor Company piggybacked. Disney did too.

This trend where major web pages exploit a tragic event (and a shit ton of cross-promoting blog backlinks in comments sections follow suit) is disturbing, but it's still a matter of taste and respect, or lack of same. None of it violates FTC guidelines. It's callous and exploitative, but it's not marketing a hoax or a lie, and the latter seems to be where the social media line would be, except where is it?

Tessa and Scott are partnered with Lindt Chocolate, and Tessa direct promotes Lindt on the same twitter she uses to manipulate the public into believing her hoax about her personal life. Kaitlyn Lawes has spammed her twitter with plugs for pb chocolate milk and used that same twitter to help Scott and Tessa hoax their fans and the supporters of their sport. They've recruited countless people to help them do it, and these people do it with enthusiasm.

How acceptable is it to introduce the corrupt aspects of skating culture into social media partnerships with sponsors, apparently because if it's just your "personas" or "business," shadiness is okay? But then continually, insistently, set out to convince the public that it's not business/personas, but the real you? Interesting tactics from the daughter of a litigation lawyer.

How informed are the people who work with Scott and Tessa? Why doesn't it matter that they're doing this? Is it because it's figure skating, and figure skating is such a corrupt clusterfuck, thanks in large part to the behavior of the North American side of the sport, that there are no limits or boundaries at all, on or off the ice? Scott and Tessa are capitalizing upon, and exploiting, the seamy side of figure skating culture, encouraging their reps and their sponsors to take as patronizing, dismissive a view of it as Scott and Tessa do themselves, as the media does, as everybody does. So much misinformation and disinformation is pumped into the public discourse nobody knows what's what. Take advantage, Scott and Tessa! It's just your sport and your sport's culture; it's a ridiculous sport with pathetic fans. Go as low as you want.

What a legacy for the greatest ice dancers of all time. This shit has overshadowed their skating. Skating as a "sport" is so corrupt that nobody can talk about Scott and Tessa's magnificent skating without examining why they weren't allowed to defeat Davis White in Sochi, so their skating legacy has sort of become an "If a tree falls in the forest and nobody's around, does it make a sound" situation. If nobody can acknowledge that Scott and Tessa have a legacy of being the greatest ice dancers of all time because acknowledging that opens the Davis White can of worms, do they actually have a real legacy? They do very little to keep attention on their skating; they're working overtime manipulating the public about their personal life, using the same sleazy tactics off ice on us that the ISU used on ice against them. I'm curious if the reason Scott and Tessa get a pass is specific to the sport of skating. Nobody takes skating seriously - not the media, not the skaters themselves. Corruption is standard practice on the ice, obviously it's anything goes and more off the ice. One suspects that those partnered with or representing athletes in other sports would tighten the guidelines a bit, but as it's just skating and skating fans, who cares. Tessa and Scott certainly exploit the hell out of that attitude, which is difficult to reconcile with two people who claim to love and respect the sport they're in and what they do.

Scott and Tessa's situation, currently combined with Kaitlyn Lawes' situation, where Scott and Tessa are in partnership with Lindt, and Kaitlyn Lawes is in partnership with pb chocolate milk, and they promote these brands on twitter while simultaneously manipulating and intentionally deceiving the public about their personal lives, where the manipulation aims to paint the public as childlike dreamers and overinvested fans for suspecting what is, in fact, the truth, is a partnership/combination of a sort unaddressed by social media ethics guidelines.

When did it become okay to market a hoax or a lie on social media? Facebooks are one thing - they are "personal". Tessa is direct marketing @Lindtchocolate under her sponsorship partnership with Lindt, on the same social media account where she hoaxes the public. Lawes is spamming her own twitter with @pbchocolate milk while also hoaxing the public.

Has the media and a whole bunch of sponsors decided it's legit to hoax certain segments of the public and not others? Even if those people represent the supporters and fans of an entire sport? When did that happen? Look at the people who are helping Scott and Tessa lie on social media. The only thing these people could possibly be deceived about are Scott and Tessa's motives. They can't be deceived about what is being done - a married pair of figure skaters not only energetically marketing themselves as single and involved with other people, but simultaneously targeting and disparaging fans they pretend don't believe them. Why is this okay?

P.S. The reality show undermines any excuse that Scott and Tessa are defending against public intrusion into their private lives. Every time Scott, Tessa and the media cozy up together and have a chat about all this unseemly public interest in their relationship, one wants to ask how exactly does the public intrude? Can't be done without the media, and the media is helping Scott and Tessa, not the public.

How many people in the world of talent representation, sponsorship, event production and athletics watched that reality show? They may have HEARD of that thing. That Scott called a documentary, that the W network (and Scott and Tessa) advertised as a chronicle of Scott and Tessa's Sochi prep, and that P.J. Kwong told us was an informative look at ice dance training. It was none of that stuff. This is what I mean when I keep saying Scott and Tessa are exploiting skating culture, capitalizing on the sleaze around their sport, by using the exact, exact tactics on the public, off the ice, that were used against them, on the ice. They're treating their sport with the same contempt.

P.P.S. Remember how Scott and Tessa promoted the reality show? How proud they were of it, how genuine it was, how close they got to the crew, how this was an opportunity for their fans to really get to know them? Telling us why we'd want to tune in? How, for them, it was a chance to create a real chronicle of their Olympic experience to look back on, since it all goes by in a blur? And remember how, as soon as it aired, when asked if they watched it, they were all "Yawn - we don't watch that shit."

So, so, SO much better than us, they are, they don't even have to fake it.

  1. Bringing this over from one of the comments before you split this entry:

"That would mean they'd been shopping around the idea of a reality show for years,"

The comments were discussing Ice Sweat and Tears and how different it ended up from what was originally advertised.

If VM had been shopping around a reality show for years it also emphasizes how determined they are for the sham narrative to be *the* defining story about themselves. An exit strategy? Doesn't appear to be part of their thinking at all.

I was thinking how in that Ice Sweat and Tears they still managed to get in a several-minutes scene/interview where they take turns saying how sad they'll be when they don't see each other every day anymore. How different their *separate* lives will be and all the rest of the crap they usually spew. I wouldn't be surprised that comment is true - they had been shopping around a reality series to showcase their sham. It's clear WNetwork was on board with the strategy of marketing their lies and rubbing the fans' faces in VM's trash.

For a couple that says they consider their chemistry their brand, their marketing tool, their actions are the complete opposite. They actually spend their PR capital making sure to give the opposite message. How can they market their chemistry while at the same time screaming from the rooftops, "It's not real!" "It's only acting!" "It's only on-ice!" "We don't really like each other that much!" (one of the main themes of their WNetwork show.) "Don't be fooled!" "Look at our SO's!"

In fact, they are not "marketing" their chemistry. What they're marketing is the lie that the fans *want* that chemistry but poor fans. It's all fake. And they spend all their PR trying to TELL and SHOW how fake they are.

In the history of marketing, this has to take the cake for one of the most inept and moronic strategies ever conceived. I don't understand otherwise seemingly smart, intelligent people (all of them - VM and their families and professionals surrounding them) subscribing to this garbage.

    2. After all !!! Tessa and Scott are married? or he is dating Kaitlyn Lawes? This is very confusing. All fans cheer for this love and then find on some sites that Scott wants to devote to relationship with Kaitlyn Lawes?

  2. ^I never got the impression Scott and Tessa's master plan included spending ten years perpetuating a hoax on the people who support their skating. However, once you re-commit - and then re-commit and re-commit, skipping every point in the road where you'd initially weighed coming clean, it may seem the die is cast. That's what a lot of people do. They're on a bad road but they stay on it because God forbid they tack back. Everything they do becomes driven by previous decisions, wise or not.

"If VM had been shopping around a reality show for years it also emphasizes how determined they are for the sham narrative to be *the* defining story about themselves."

Is it the defining story about themselves, or is it "will they or won't they?"

Yes, yep, but then they work the other side of the street. All over each other in front of an Olympic-sized audience on warm-up ice in Sochi, to where Tracy Wilson says wryly: "Sometimes they get a little too involved with each other (or caught up with each other)" After 2010 Scott frequently said "I wish" or "I'm trying!" when asked about getting together with Tessa some day, despite simultaneously spamming facebooks with Jessica. There's the ctv interview where Tessa said "Maybe" and Scott says he's been pitching that for 12 years. There's Scott, a man in a committed, long term relationship with someone else, or so they pretend, saying their past platonic status wouldn't preclude them from getting involved in the future, and giving a similar answer after Sochi. There's Scott who has "dated" two high profile women (Jessica and Kaitlyn) and we can't find one on record nice thing he's said about either one. In the entire reality show, what did he say about Cassandra other than it's a relatively new relationship and hot'n'heavy. What did he say about her qualities as a person, or her contribution to the relationship?

  3. Even in the "reality" show, between hinting that Tessa was into him and Scott controlling of Tessa (AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN OMG) and "hot'n'heavy" with Cassandra, Scott drops that he's taking two freaking condoms to Sochi. That's what every boyfriend in a hot'n'heavy relationship tells the camera. My girlfriend is coming too, but I'm bringing a couple condoms in case there's any action in the village.

Remember that while "Tessa and Scott" pushed the sham, it also did a "gotcha" bait and switch when it introduced Cassandra, showing her ballet flats, her skinny jeans, her long dark hair, and then "revealed" it wasn't Tessa.

Their brand isn't "we're platonic! Our chemistry is fake!"

Their brand is FUCKING with people about their relationship, that's the brand.

It's not a mutual, fun game/dynamic between the skaters and their fans, as you might say has been the tone with, for example, Trankov/Volosozhar and their fans.

It's just advancing themselves and entertaining themselves at the expense of a bunch of earnest, gullible, eager, inexperienced people who support their skating, but who they consider dumber, and less worthy of respect than themselves. That's why I say that by going this route, they are showing their ass about their real attitudes towards their sport. Imagine becoming this great at something, spending all of these years devoted to skating, and the only downside is the audience is a bunch of skells whom you don't consider worthy of elementary respect or basic consideration as people. Shit, going by how Scott and Tessa do it, they really don't want us talking about skating or to be interested in it. That's the important stuff. We're not really qualified or worthy.

If only skating had an audience that didn't embarrass them. But at least they can showcase their ridicule year after year after year.

  4. Just remember that they married in 2009, have a daughter together, live together, and it certainly appears that they're expecting their second child. They spend most of their time setting up fans, and then mocking them for falling for the set up, for thinking that they might be together or get together.Meanwhile, they're married five years. What kind of game is based upon humiliating people for thinking something about you, and at the same time making fun of them because they're fooled by your lies and don't realize it's all true?

(Scott did that in 2010 when he talked about how he laughed at all of the letters saying "Just go on a date! Just try it!" and stuff like that. Of course he laughed. It was hilarious. He was married to the woman, and here all these stupid people are giving him advice about dating her. They spend a lot of time, it seems, laughing at and mocking people who believe them, while one-upping people who don't. They just have contempt for every fan they've got, no exceptions.

[[You can see the fake from space, they've gotten a little better at shamming now than when they first started but it really is obvious.]]

I'm trying to figure out what you mean by "they've gotten a little better at shamming"?

Perhaps. But I'd warn you, don't be fooled. Lawes already posted a piece of a picture of them in bathing suits, with Scott shirtless (as iconic as the key necklace). This is supposedly still the beginning of a relationship (rolleyes) but it's a given there are a ton more pictures where that bathing-suit one came from. As well as from any other time they've scheduled shamming time. After all, that is part of the purpose of actually being physically in the same place. To bank photos.

Scott has shown a disgusting willingness to cross lines in the posing and acting-out. Why would this time be any different? There's also Lawes, who already has shown she *loves* all this post-Sochi attention and she's 100% about promoting herself. Therefore, expect things with this gf to get as gross as they ever did with the previous attention-whores.

Here we go again with getting someone else to post the sighting/picture/sham on their social media...What? She hasn't retweeted yet?
They may actually be touching in that picture though... or maybe not.

    5. Yep. He never needs to actually use it, but now that it's there, everyone and their brother can tag him being here and there and everywhere, most likely associated with curling or a certain curler.

Oh look, he's holding a golf ball. Shocking.
I'm guessing this is also meant to imply he was there earlier. Or just to be used for later reference, if looked up, that on this date she had a golf outing, and that night he's with her holding a golf ball. The good ol', look at all this time we spent together, trick.

I also find the phrasing of that tweet interesting. "COUPLE beer...", with a pic of the two of them. Not " Having a couple of beers with...". Gotta love those subliminal set ups.

Sorry, I'm feeling extra snarky tonight.

    6. As we say patterns...first of all - no surprise that Scott would be there..it's not a ridiculous long drive...I expect in the next weekend or two for Tessa to be at one of her besties all girls weekend and at the Toronto International Film Festival...but coming back to Lawes - and that curling summit - it was interesting to observe that according to twitter that even a hard core curling fan wrote enough of the tweets with the teamjenniferjones - please share any other information about the other curlers there...also yesterday it appears that Jill Officer (member of teamjenniferjones) tweeted with delight that their jersey got a higher bid that teambradjacobs (the men's gold medal team)...how childish is that....
Oh well let's see what Tessa tweets on Scott's bday...

    7. 10:27 PM They probably couldn't fit it within 140 characters. They're at 139 characters with that Tweet already.

    8. teamjenniferjones are about promoting themselves and their team gold medal. All the events/dinners/weekends Lawes attends with her teammates are promotional. They have an agent. They're not goodwill ambassadors for curling. They're building the teamjenniferjones brand - those specific curlers/personalities.

There was also a complaint about her twitter overtaken with @pbchocolate milk. @pbchocolate milk is an initiative by the British Columbia Dairy Association with the participation of several milk brands/labels. Athletes have used chocolate milk to refuel for a long time now, and the BC Dairy Association is building a promotional/awareness campaign around it; presumably to encourage more athletes/fitness types to consume milk. The Association breaks down its benefits as a re-fuel. The "Powered by Chocolate Milk" awareness campaign sponsors a bunch of athletes, even no fame middle-distance runners with no real public profile. Kaitlyn is part of a large mix of athletes at all levels chosen to participate.

    9. It happened again. Tessa and K Lawes doing the tag-team thing on twitter. Lawes retweeting the one from Hard Rock Cafe last night (conveniently, featuring a picture with Scott) and Tessa's tweet about traveling/reading, one tweet right after the other.

Tessa doing her part to make sure that *separate* narrative gets out there and also making sure the question is raised, "Where is Scott?" (Why, with the gf, of course!)

Did someone say transparent from space?

    12. 2:13 IKR. Save time. But then, they'd lose all those supporting tweets/reports from other people *so excited* they just saw Scott Moir! Isn't it just the most amazing thing there aren't random fans around Canada *so excited* they just saw Scott Moir or Tessa Virtue when they aren't shamming. Which indicates they go out of their way to *be seen* in specific places, at specific times, in order to generate those sightings. They do know how to lay low, fly under the radar/be invisible, otherwise there would be many many reports of sightings when they're together.

All this traveling to be seen with the SO, it's built into their budget by now.

    13. "Which indicates they go out of their way to *be seen* in specific places, at specific times, in order to generate those sightings." I think it indicates the "sightings" are plants who know exactly what's going on, including today's. The coy phrasing they use, the rah rah hashtags. It's not about pulling a Celeste from Soapdish, drawing attention to yourself so fans will notice you and tweet. That could take all night before they found someone who recognized them AND was on twitter AND was likely to tweet about it. Come on. These people are in on it.

    14. This has been a big weekend since 2009. I think that most fans would have forgotten about it, but for Scott and Tessa, it's sham tradition. It's funny that at this time in 2009, I was looking at Jessica Dube's facebook and before my eyes her profile picture switched from one with her dog to one with her and Scott on the beach in the Dominican. Scott tried to do a sham sting 2-3 years ago this weekend. It's his birthday. I seriously wonder if Tessa is going to acknowledge it on twitter. It might be difficult for her to tweet happy birthday to him, as he's not tweeting anybody back, but she might say happy birthday to @ScottMoir. Everybody's going to birthday tweet him, and all they're going to get back is oh look, be sure to establish for the 5th year in a row that Scott and Tessa are apart this weekend. Every single year they do it. If they've gone low prior, they will surface for this.

    16. 2:47pm, what I mean is, your scenario presupposes Scott actually hangs out with Kaitlyn Lawes, and sort of trolls the hot spots, acting conspicuous in some way (what way? Striking up conversation? Being loud? Flinging medals around) until somebody with a twitter account recognizes them, takes a picture of them, uploads the picture, and tweets about it. Doesn't that seem time intensive to you? Doesn't it seem to you as if they could waste a tremendous amount of time with nothing to show for it? And how would they verify that the "sighting" had been tweeted? "Excuse me - are you sending this picture of us to twitter?"

Come on. Two seconds in a Starbucks, bar or restaurant or patio, someone who is totally on board holds out their phone and then does as told. That's how it works. Neither Tessa nor Scott are running around Toronto or anywhere else trying to call attention to themselves, hoping somehow that the person who finally recognizes them ALSO has a twitter account and ALSO enjoys tweeting about this stuff.

    17. The person who tweets doesn't have to be the one who took the photo either. The photo can be sent to someone else's phone and they tweet it. #geekedout #suchafan

I still think it's interesting how KL and Scott are always mentioned as being somewhere together, but only by their names, not in relationship (even though it's implied). In the cases (2?) where he's "with his gf", she hasn't been named.

    19. I was thinking about Scott's claim that he'd been arrested, and how the public didn't know until he mentioned that he had been. It's possible he's not telling the truth. It's equally possible that the arresting officers didn't know Scott Moir from John Doe. The police force must be living in a cave. Everybody knows Scott Moir, and recognizes him, everywhere he goes, in every province, and everybody wants to share it on twitter.

  7. I don't like how the ISU conducts itself. It's insulting to the supporters and consumers of figure skating that they're sold a bill of goods, expected to swallow it, and further encouraged to support the sport financially.

But, huh. According to your logic, why should I care about that? Why should I care about being told D/W's win in Sochi was legitimate even though it reeked of ISU corruption? Why should I care about how that impacts other people in detrimental ways, perhaps in ways that I will never see or know about in great depth?

The bullshit with your above post and so many others like it is that when V/M are getting screwed by a corrupt organization that can fuck with them and its audience and paying supporters JUST BECAUSE IT CAN GET AWAY WITH IT, the criticism of that is deemed acceptable. When V/M fuck with their audience and paying supporters JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH IT, the pathetic and poorly constructed "why do you people give a fuck???" attempts to redirect the conversation come raining down.

    Spare me the hypocrisy.

  8. ^Thank you.

I actually have a post nearly prepared that has because they can get away with it as its central point. It's not a very long post, but it does observe that people who otherwise attempt to show integrity in their dealings just throw it out the window when it comes to helping Scott and Tessa put this across, and the absolutely only reason is they can get away with it. Everybody is showing us that about themselves, including Scott and Tessa themselves.

  9. I've been wondering what Ryan Semple gets for his involvement.
Scott's gfs all get a piece of the cake but Ryan is mostly in the backround and gets no attention. His jacket is more prominent than he is.
He's never even mentioned by anyone.
Is he so close to VM that he would do all of it for free ?

And was Fedor really dating Meryl ? I still find that entire story very odd. Or was he just there to show just how great Meryl is that she can get such a womanizer to dump Tessa and settle down ? But as soon as DWTS started he was gone and forgotten.

I agree. I will also say it does look like between him and Marina they work together to bring more attention to the female ice-dancer who happens to be the favored one at the moment. I personally don't see how linking Fedor's name with any of them enhances the girl's visibility, but Marina/Fedor apparently think it does. Or it could be the other way around. The ice-dancer who is flavor of the month is used to enhance Fedor's visibility or whatever.

Whatever is going on, they all use each other.

    1. I find it interesting that this is completely ignored by the media.
Meryl is dating her biggest rival's ex who also happens to coach both teams AND who dated her skating partner's current girlfriend yet it is never brought up. One would think this would be enough for an interesting story.
Just shows you how much skaters dictate what is written about them and how they can get away with their lies and shams.

    2. Of course the media is complicit. The media is also a clusterfuck of sloppiness, so when we get to entertainment, skating media, it's going to be even worse. But look at the stuff they ignore:

      1) NBC, which sees the winter Olympics as an opportunity to bring soap opera to prime time, ignored Scott/Jessica/Bryce and pretended not to notice Jessica in the stands with the Moirs.
      2) Nobody has noticed that Fedor Andreev has dated four of his mother's ice dancers in a row, without causing a ripple among the women. (While Fedor Andreev has flirted with modeling and self-promotion, he's basically a free spirit and these alliances are for the benefit of the women more than Andreev. He's just perfect.)
      3) Anastasia Bucsis was in the media as dating Patrick Chan. Then she's out as gay, noting she was closeted in 2010, the period of time prior to dating Patrick Chan. What's a Patrick Chan? That's been struck from her story, even though her story walks us through the pain of her closeted years, it skips the part where she dated him. If you google, you can find it.

The media doesn't want to rock the boat with celebrities.

  12. ^^you both, lol or should i say blogger x 2, missed the point completely. Criticize the skating. Leave the personal criticizing out of it. No need at all to disect their every photograph off ice. Really? It simply shows that it is not about skating, the whole blog is a personal attack. It is so personal it reeks of vendetta. It reeks of jealousy. It reeks of everything except logic.

  13. An interesting post went up on FSU recently about the USFS's monitoring of the content at FSU...how they requested that personal videos of events like Skate America be deleted because it violated their agreement with broadcasters. It makes me wonder about the extent of their involvement in protecting DW on that board. I have never, ever seen a skater/s protected the way they have been. Far better skaters are ripped apart on that board and it is perfectly ok.

    1. I have no doubt that USFSA is protecting DW on FSU.
Other skaters have been accused of cheating, corruption, drug use and physical violence and none of the mods thought this was crossing a line, but as soon as somebody called Meryl a snob Prancer started to threaten VM fans to give their personal informations to the FBI.
How much more obvious can it get ?

When Dave Lease started hating on VM, accusing them of faking injuries and skipping training sessions, it was considered honest and insightful but when he complained about DW's comments regarding Russia's anti gay laws FSU members immediately started a thread about how evil he is for mocking Meryl's voice and calling them out on their bs.

    3. That's FSU's choice, if so, so it's down to the site owner/moderator. They're not obligated to protect DW on behalf of the USFSA.

    4. I agree with 11:03 about the hypocrisy.

USFS and its skaters are not shy about contacting FSU about potential legal issues. I don't know if that's down to the litigiousness of American society in general or USFS being especially protective over PR. Years ago there was a report from a fan on there about a teenage Belbin hooking up with some skater at one of the event afterparties in full view of everyone. Her dad contacted FSU and threatened legal action because his daughter was a minor, so the story was scrubbed and FSU created a rule that you can't speculate or gossip about a minor's love life. That rule never seems to apply to Russians though (for example many disgusting comments about their belief that Elena Ilinkh hooked up with Morozov when she was 17). Just like libel has never been an issue on there EVER until it was about Rettstatt/Davis/White.

Also, Belbin's immigration lawyer (a poster named reckless) posts on FSU and used it as a platform to have FSUers contact their representatives to get Belbin's citizenship passed (it was pretty funny seeing the mostly liberal FSU crowd lobbying to get a Bush budget passed since her bill happened to be appended to it). That poster is also Agosto's cousin, and I'm pretty sure I've seen her defending DW many times and she was quite vocally anti-VM after the 4CC 2013 stop. IIRC, she pretty much said that even if Tessa had been sidelined by a sudden cramp, this was Tessa's fault because a cramp is a result of poor training and hydration by the athlete, so VM should have been penalized severely (or maybe disqualified? I don't remember exactly). Considering the connections between Agosto/Belbin/White/Davis this attitude from her isn't surprising at all (not saying she was necessarily the one who contacted FSU about the "libelous" statements").

I know OC has issues with the L'Equipe article, but IMO, it was partially a good thing, because it gave a small window to talk about the corruption that went on in Sochi (the article clearly didn't go into the corruption leading toward Sochi, though). The Rettstatt thing was someone's theory, but the L'Equipe thing was published, so at least we could say stuff like "L'Equipe reported that a Russian coach said..." which isn't libel because we'd be stating the fact that L'Equipe did report that statement, rather than it be us saying "we think Rettstatt cheated."

The discussion on that thread was also slamming Belbin's mother for not supervising her teen-age daughter, and there was speculation about statutory rape. The whole nine yards.

I think that story, and the attention Tanith received for being a glamorous blonde ice U.S. ice dancer, and the attention on her family, accounts for the trajectory of Tanith's public romantic relationships until she got with Charlie White.

      Delete
    7. I'm cynical enough to wonder if it accounts for the one with Charlie too. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why she and Ben would love Igor and Marina if she were going to fauxmance Charlie, so maybe it's legit. Who cares.

    8. I think Tanith and Charlie have fauxed a bit, but probably not about the relationship itself. But that "she said yes!" announcement and "pap" photos. Right. He asked her on a getaway joined by sundry DWTS pros (who each come personally equipped with a Pap Signal) and I think Meryl Davis? They were engaged before that. That was a p.r. move.

  14. @8:13 While the blog has talked a lot about their skating, this whole blog began as criticism of how Virtue and Moir hoax their fans. No one is criticising their personal lives, only how they go about "hiding" it. I think you should spend a lot less time throwing around accusations (without any evidence to back it up) and more time actually reading (and comprehending) what's posted on this blog and the discussion in the comments.

    ReplyDelete
  15. 8:13, this blog began, and remains, a chronicle of Scott and Tessa's lies and manipulations in their marketing a p.r. It began because they went OTT in ridiculing the supporters of their skaters. It evolved to include skating discussion; but it's roots are chronicling what Scott and Tessa do in the sham department, and will remain that way as long as Scott and Tessa keep shamming.

Enough is enough! There is no sham: they aren't married with a child. Get over yourselves and stop crediting this blog as a reputable source because it isn't, its just a bunch of sad ramblings by severely disillusioned people.
There is no truth to be had and what happens in their private lives is their business, they don't owe you an explanation.

Parasocial relationship: Psychologists use the term "parasocial relationship" to describe the connection people get from celebrities and other famous people. The Internet allows such one-sided relationships to flourish.

Interesting you seem to consider that an insult, 10:34 AM.

Are you telling the blog to stop crediting itself as a reputable source?

Parasocial relationship: Yes, this is what Scott and Tessa exploit with the sham and by encouraging speculation about their personal life.

Scott and Tessa got married in 2009 and have a daughter together.

"there is no truth to be had and what happens in their private lives is you business; they don't owe you an explanation."

Why don't you look at that sentence again. Don't come back with it, just take a look.

Did you flail like this on the scottmoirfuckedmy friend? I'm sure you did. That blog was awful. You feel so passionately about what's being said about Tessa and Scott, you must have attacked the author of a tumblr claiming Scott Moir was date-raping, harassing, and passing diseases onto unsuspecting girls - your attack must have been something to see. The blog is saying they're married, with a child, and are lying to the public about it, and you're having a rage attack and an insult fit. You surely can't think that's the worst thing ever said about Scott and Tessa, especially as it's true, and your level of rage sort of indicates you know that. Look it up. :)

    2. "Ohh, over 30 AND single. Burn! You forgot to say we're all fat!"

I love the social attitudes that come out in these sorts of comments. And the rage. Somebody posts a photo of what they claim is Scott Moir's dick on tumblr, I bet this person just drove on by. Say Scott and Tessa are married and it's a volcanic explosion.

Do you suppose that parasocial relationship syndrome plays a role? People enraged at the suggestion that celebrities would lie to them? People enraged that somebody appears to be usurping the narrative about a couple of celebrities, spoiling all the theories, speculation and fan fic fun? Otherwise why so mad?

And, if this blog really were filled with sad ramblings by disillusioned people, and we pretended not to see all the evidence that points to the blog's premise being true, and ignored that some of us have independent sources confirming it... so what? How is this blog hurting Tessa & Scott? Where are the "theories" of this blog being exposed to them and making them uncomfortable? If it were all false, still going strong after all these years, wouldn't they just laugh about it? "Haha, yes, that food baby is actually our second child! The first is starting kindergarten soon!"

That's what I don't get about all the people who claim this blog is so horrible and scary and hurtful to Tessa and Scott. I've seen it described as dangerous. But why? The conversation is contained to here, twitter, tumblr and a little bit on Fan Forum. The vast majority of skating fans have only heard of it as some kind of joke. Before I started reading it I also assumed it was a joke, but it certainly didn't offend me or make me worry for Tessa and Scott. It's incredibly easy to avoid any contact with this blog and its ideas. VM fans never dare mention the blog as a credible source on places like FSU, Goldenskate, or the comments of media articles. Plenty of fans hide that they believe. It's all kept hush-hush, in PMs and the fans even lock their twitter accounts, because God forbid that Tessa and Scott should know that we know. We couldn't possibly make them uncomfortable enough to see that we believe they could have a kid, even under a pseudonym. No one ever questions them about it in a fan meeting and only one person ever tweets her about it. The entire world is basically bending to accommodate Tessa and Scott, and the only reason to consider this blog dangerous and horrendous is if you're worried that it's the truth.

    4. The fact that this blog actually believes that 2 people (Olympic medalists, World Champions, dignified people) would/ could lie to people about the nature of their relationship is stupefying. I'm pretty sure given all the press that followed 2010 that their so called sham would be revealed, not to mention the fact that things like marriage certificates are registered with the province making them easy to find.
Hey maybe you should do that and give this blog some real proof!
My issue is that you and this blog are disillusioned bullies, which is never a good combination.
Get over yourself and stop acting like whatever Scott and Tessa do harms you personally.
This has crossed the line, years ago. Are you going to keep going even now when they're done competing? Are you going to continue even after Tessa and Scott marry other people and have families of their own?
You will look like idiots then and I can't wait for that day because you will finally realize that this isn't about you or your feelings or your vendetta. You don't matter not because TS don't care about their fans, you don't matter because you're irrelevant, the worst kind of person that chooses to sit behind a screen and perpetuate nonsense at the sake of their own fantasies/ amusements. You're so caught up in this sham that you've created that you can't see reason, its sad and I have no sympathy for adults that act like teenagers.

Are you aware that Olympic gold medalists Alexei Yagudin, Viktor Petrenko, and Oksana Baiul were all arrested for DUI? That World champion Maxim Staviski killed someone while drunk driving? That Olympic champion Wolfgang Schwartz was convicted for human trafficking? Yes, the fact that he was a figure skater did not stop him from selling girls into sexual slavery. What on earth would give you the idea that winning medals in ice dance makes someone a dignified person?

"the fact that things like marriage certificates are registered with the province making them easy to find"

But not publicly available in most places unless you are a relative of the married person.

"This has crossed the line, years ago."

What line? Where has it even crossed into basic figure skating coverage. It's only believed and known by a small subset of fans; the rest buy the narrative they're unattached. Why not just stop visiting this blog and being exposed to something that makes you so upset?

"You're so caught up in this sham that you've created that you can't see reason, its sad and I have no sympathy for adults that act like teenagers. "

That's what I'd like someone to say to Tessa and Scott.

    6. 11:10 AM, you really don't know how it works. The press that follows Tessa and Scott knows they're married. You have this vision that they're hiding from the media. They're not hiding. They're lying. The entertainment media and most sports journalism isn't investigative journalism; it's public relations. If you don't know that, that's not my problem but check yourself spewing your lack of experience and lack of awareness all over this comments section.

Your clear lack of information, experience, and awareness and your reliance on assumptions using only your own worldview as a frame of reference is arrogant.

How is this blog a bully? The blog is one place on the internet, it belongs to me, discussion happens here, and stays here. The rest of the skating discussion places pretty much disparage the blog. So that's another thing you don't know, what bully means.

"not to mention the fact that things like marriage certificates are registered with the province making them easy to find"

Really? Easy to find by a member of the public who is not a party to the marriage and has no legal reason to request access to the record? Did you research that, by any chance? I bet you didn't.

You are really really pissed off. You don't know what a bully is, but you're sure the blog is a bully even though what the blog says only happens here on the blog. You claim the media would expose Scott and Tessa, apparently ignorant of the fact that the media - particularly entertainment and sports - are in the public relations game and often participate, as celebrities themselves, in the same events where Scott and Tessa appear, several are social friends of Scott and Tessa, and many don't want to lose access to either Scott and Tessa or other figure skaters.

You don't know anything, but you're sure of yourself anyway, which is fairly typical of many of the skating fans you appear to rail against, even though you're one yourself.

The blog has been around over three years and you come in here and make announcements like you think people need to be told something from you, who hasn't bothered to actually find out how anything works, from marriage certificate availability to media/athlete relations. You are very angry, and you yourself are an example of parasocial relationship dynamic with the level of intensity and rage you're showing on ONE blog.

The next time you post, check out what you pretend to know before you come back. Don't just go "Marriage records are easy to find!" Check it out and come back with a link demonstrating that that's true. In fact, go find Anabel Langlois and Cody Hay's marriage registration. Don't go through this list that you've basically pulled out your hind end thinking it's true and thinking it's so self-evidently true you don't even need to do a little googling to be sure. Check out what you're saying, source it, and if you want to carry on, do it after that.

    7. You also didn't answer my question about the "ScottMoirfuckedmyfriend" tumblr. Did you take off after that tumblr? What is it about this blog that enrages you more than a tumblr that calls Scott Moir a sexual predator? Unless you did confront the tumblr owner. What did you say to them?

Again, I think it's the ideas in this blog that have you upset, period. The idea that Scott and Tessa would lie to fans. That one kills me. Some fans would rather believe that two twentysomething adults, never having touched each other before, one night had an evening of passion that led to a child and were so freaked out they created the sham. That infantile, histrionic, soap opera scenario is more palatable to some fans than a legal marriage and a child, because at least it allows them to think Scott and Tessa haven't deliberately constructed a barrier between themselves and fans while pretending to let them into their lives. It's all about fan ego.

There's also the fans who had the theory that Scott and Tessa were lying to the MEDIA, lie that they're married. That's right. Scott and Tessa lie to their friends in the media, lie to their community, lie to their families and the skating world, that's okay, but dear God, don't tell us they've been lying to FANS.

This is all about wanting to believe that the access Scott and Tessa have pretended to give to fans actually IS access and not a trick.

But it's a trick. Fans have no access.

This is all about fans wanting to protect their conversations and speculation and theories with each other, the big circle jerk of fan discussion. They don't want to believe Scott and Tessa have been a done deal for years, married and a family, entirely outside the view of most fans, and off the internet, because boy do they feel foolish spending time on that.

Don't even come here pretending this has anything to do with you being appalled on Scott and Tessa's behalf, or shocked - SHOCKED - that there are crazy people on the web and you want to put a stop to it. This is about you, your ego, protecting your thoughts and beliefs about Scott and Tessa, protecting you and whatever community you participate in and their speculation about Scott and Tessa. It's about you and your ego and vanity and pride, and resentment that somebody has a narrative out there that makes all this Scott-Tessa fan fic and speculation a joke on the fans who do it.

But that is exactly the case, and that is exactly what Scott and Tessa are doing - making fools of fans Scott and Tessa KNOW speculate and exchange theories. If you can't deal with even the idea, or even other people saying that, and you can't, stay away from here.

    8. 11:10, you've said before you can't wait til the blog is proven wrong, so you can come here and witness whatever you fantasize you'll be witnessing.

When Scott and Tessa's marriage to each other and status as parents to a little girl (and it appears evident a second child is on the way) is public, you will come here to have some kind of flaily rage fit about the effrontery of the blog knowing about it and talking about it before Scott and Tessa wanted it out there.

      In sum:

Don't come back here without sharing your rage over "ScottMoirFuckedMyFriend" and what you said to that blogger.

Don't come back here again reciting a long list of impossible things you've just pulled out your rear end because in your head they must be impossible, and you didn't bother to check. Such as how marriage records are easily available. When you make your case, SUPPORT your case. Show that you know how something works. Don't share your assumptions how something works.

      Delete
    9. P.S. I think the reason ScottMoirFuckedMyFriend didn't bother you isn't because you thought it was obviously crazy (you claim the blog is obviously crazy too), but because it had nothing to do with fans. Well, it did, but it made fun of fans who think Scott and Tessa are together, and you're down with that.

It's water off a duck's back to say that Scott is a sexual predator. But someone who says he's married to Tessa and lying to FANS needs the legal system sicced on them. Something must be done!

It's the parasocial syndrome all right.

      Bwhahahahaha

It seems you did get one thing right, 10:34. Apparently Tessa and Scott and their PR people (whoever the idiots they happen to be) also think the VM fandom is made up of that particular demographic. And to them, it seems that demographic is pathetic and stupid and deserving of being treated like they don't have a brain.

    11. 11:25 AM, let's not forget that Scott Moir himself claims to have been arrested; an experience that apparently soured him on law enforcement. How did we not hear about it? He's lying (and they lie for all kinds of reasons), or the arrest of an Olympic ice dancer just never made the papers. Either is perfectly possible.

It's exactly correct that the (many) people who believe and/or know for themselves that Scott and Tessa are married keep it out of the public realm. I don't know which is the worse reason - the fear of being bullied/harassed by people who can't comprehend what Scott and Tessa have done, or the desire to be "good fans" to the ice dancers who routinely diminish and exploit these same fans.

They've already got like a billion photos from previous months, this is not necessary. Average non-informed people like me are never going to believe you. You see, you've got less and less followers

Nobody is forcing you or even telling you to come here and believe the facts. That's your choice. Your choice to come here and post. When he was dating Cass, no one ever said, "OMG, I just saw Cassandra Hilborn! Oh yeah, and Scott Moir was there too." Kaitlyn has her own celebrity, so people are recognizing both of them. IMO, this relationship seems a lot more real than the one with Cassandra did.

I will give you the presumption he was there last night since it was so close to home (not because he definitely was, but because I expect a picture to pop up).

Almost all of these were already Olympian events and/or Tessa was there. If not, she comes to him. Some are not confirmed. That's only a couple of confirmed times he went with her somewhere that wasn't already on his schedule/requirement. Hardly half of his time. Yes, they are amping it up a little more lately, but you are also completely and utterly falling for their bait. That's exactly what they want us to think... they are spending all this time together the whole summer, and he's following her around everywhere, etc.
The patterns are the same-perhaps you need to revisit the previous "relationships". Actually, you're partially right. They haven't quite reached the grossness level yet, and hoping it stays that way. Not holding my breath, but it would be nice.

That doesn't make it more real, that just means (like you said), she's a celebrity, so she is going to get recognized more than Cassandra was, obviously. I think if anything it makes it less real... at the least they don't have to work as hard because KL can retweet every single thing and knows it will be seen by all the fans and how many other thousands of people. She still hasn't been *named* as his "girlfriend", (nor him, hers).

    6. Thank you for the list, 8:35.
I would also point out to 7:59 that indeed so far it's like previous patterns. The summer has always been a big shamming time with vacations (both Jessica and Cassandra), weddings (both J and C), concerts (Cassandra), golfing (Cassandra). Nothing so far has been different except the kissing / too-cozy pictures. I expect those are still to come. The more Kaitlyn gets into her role I think the more willing she'll be to start crossing lines. Scott is already there, he's used to this, I expect it's more a matter of the fake gf getting to the same page.

      Delete
    7. Except all those things are exactly things that a boyfriend/girlfriend would do together in the summer. It's what Scott enjoys. What do you propose he should do with his girlfriends to make it more real for you?

      Delete
    8. Well they ARE trying to make it look legit, lol. I mean, they don't try really hard (in that they repeat), but it's not like they're going to do completely random stuff he wouldn't normally do... because for why? A wink to fans to know something was off? Of course they're going to do stuff he enjoys doing. Got to have some up side to posing and making out with someone who's not his wife that he's completely and utterly smitten with. Those are the perks for him to get through it, lol.

What would make it more real for me, is if he actually looked like he enjoyed these things, the tweets were not obvious plants, and, most importantly, he wasn't married to and in love with his actual wife (and their daughter).

      Delete
    9. 8:55--It's a matter of perspective. I happen to know for a fact (no, I'm not OC nor do I know who OC is) that Scott and Tessa are married. With a child. So when I see this summer storyboarding of "Scott and GF" at various events, I *know* it has to be fake. He is not cheating on Tessa nor is Tessa cheating on Scott.

For a moment, assume it's true what this blog has said from the beginning. Tessa and Scott are a real-life couple. How do you propose all these "girlfriends" and "sightings with Scott" be viewed?

      Delete
    10. Well either they broke up or he's cheating on Tessa because Scott is definitely romantically involved with Kaitlyn.

      Delete
    11. 9:22. What do you base that on, besides the social media reporting?

What strikes me about the last couple days is how coordinated they are. Scott makes sure to be seen with Lawes at her curling event and Tessa tweets about traveling. She's done a bit of traveling since she signed up for twitter and she's rarely reported on it. But *this time* she felt compelled to report on what was implied was a beginning and end to her journey, and also implied how far far away she is from Scott.

Please. Give me a break. These guys (Scott, Lawes, Tessa) are all coordinating together. It's perfectly obvious Lawes' tweets about a special event are a heads-up that Scott is supposed to be with her, and Tessa already did us the favor of placing herself in another part of the world.

Tessa and Scott recently traveled to Saskatchewan to an important golf event for a good friend who is a celebrity in his own right. But not a word from them on twitter, only from third parties, and at that, none of those tweets had VM as a center of attention - they were just part of the group of public figures/friends who attended that golfing event. But this weekend, of course, since they're all separate and stuff, and it involves Kaitlyn, there are tweets and (imagine that) "strangers" randomly tweeting about seeing Scott (who *of course* is not on that long plane ride with Tessa). All the ducks are lined up to give out a specific narrative when they want that. When they're not interested in reporting about themselves, they don't.

      Delete
    12. "Well either they broke up or he's cheating on Tessa because Scott is definitely romantically involved with Kaitlyn."

    13. Wow, that was super nice of him to knock her up a second time, while he was dating some other chick, after they broke up after multiple years of marriage and a child... or was that just another one of those, soap opera/teenage drama/fan fiction, random "night of passion" where they couldn't help themselves. Why is that easier to believe than they're lying? I don't get it.

      Delete
    14. 11:10
I give the fans who have a hard time believing they're a lying a little bit of a pass. Scott DOES give the impression of being on dates with the "gf." I acknowledge it's difficult to grasp the extent of the lies and especially with supposed "photographic evidence" of being with a gf.

But I give just a little pass because these fans are not taking into account the whole picture that includes years of contradictions. Years of VM behaving like a couple in every way. Years of the "gf" somehow not quite fitting into the picture, like something that's blurry. Years of Scott not really behaving as a devoted "bf" should with these girls.... and etc. etc.

It's disingenuous to take at face-value every social media report, whether twitter, facebook, instagram, with that background/big picture of all the rest of the clusterf***.

      Delete
    15. "But *this time* she felt compelled to report on what was implied was a beginning and end to her journey, and also implied how far far away she is from Scott."

I agree with your post and would like to reiterate the "implied". For all we know, she could have traveled (by train or plane) somewhere in the morning, had some meetings or whatever in the afternoon, and flown back home at night. Just because she said it was a travel day doesn't necessarily mean she spent the entire day traveling to one place. I'm not saying she definitely did not, just that it doesn't mean she definitely did. That documentary is only a hour long, so it's possible to watch it on a short flight. (This of course is assuming her tweets about traveling, flying and watching the doc were all on the up and up) .

      Delete
    16. "because these fans are not taking into account the whole picture that includes years of contradictions."

Yes. I think it comes down to paying attention. If you're just watching on the surface, things may seem legit and maybe a little confusing when VM act like a couple, but I guess that just gets filed into the "it's just their skating and acting" piece of the narrative. When I first became a fan of theirs, years ago, I was initially confused as well, but because of that my innate instinct was to dig a little deeper to figure it out. It really did not take very long or hard to find and sort out the truth. I don't know if it's a culture thing, a social media thing, or a maturity thing, but it seems like a lot of fans don't bother (or don't want) to find out *why* they are so confused all the time regarding their relationship/why things don't make sense. They DO make sense if you allow the truth to be considered as an option. In fact, that's the only way everything can fit. They just don't want it to be the way it is. That is the most ironic to me because the truth means they are and always have been together, are married and have a family. That's what the fans want! Yet, they would rather have Scott and Tessa *not* be together than the idea that they've been lied to. If that's the case, then you really don't care if they're together or not. It's not about them. It's about you.

Interesting that you bring it up... because I'm not sure I've ever seen him actually look at her, lol. They are also barely touching, if not at all, in all of the pictures of them together. It's possible I've missed some, but in the 15 I can find, only 3 of those they were actually touching one another (they were all group pics-2 from Stampede and 1 from country festival), and possibly were/*maybe*/although hard to tell for sure in 2-3 others ("beach"/pool party selfie, drinks w/Jill at culinary challenge and Hard Rock). That's it.
Yes, if they were really dating, I would expect him to at least look at... in *any* way, (let alone the way he looks at someone who is supposedly only his best friend, that apparently he never spends any time with whatsoever-because that's how I hang with my bff's)... or touch her, other than in a group setting... I know Mont-Tremblant was mistaken for Vegas, and he "went" to Paris with Cassandra. Unless it was part of Tessa and Scott's European vacation the beginning of June and she tagged along for the sham, as has been suspected ("best vacation ever").
Because it makes total sense for Scott to take all his gfs to the one place Tessa has talked on and on about being her favorite... (not to mention special personal meaning to them if we're going the "break-up" route).

I wouldn't be surprised. It was speculated a lot of the gross with Cassandra began after the blog noted the coldness between them in the photos made public up till then.

However, that's on them. If they're infantile enough to respond to fans outing them with truth by responding with more disgusting acting out, it's no reflection on the fans. It's on them completely and their ethical standards (which apparently go down the toilet when it involves the manipulative lying schemes that are aimed directly at the fans).

    23. For God's sake, they are not being "spotted." The tweets and instagrams are set up. As I said, please step back and realize how few people actually are on twitter, and look at what needs to happen - they need to be recognized by somebody, that person needs to be on twitter, and that person needs to be someone who wants to upload the photo and hashtag it. That's not a common combination of circumstances.

Cassandra didn't go to Paris, France WITH Scott. It was TEB. Scott and Tessa were competing at TEB in Paris and she was there as well during the reality show. It was, as usual, two birds with one stone.

I misunderstood the poster talking about Paris, ON from last night. I thought they were stating that there was a picture of Scott and KL in Paris, France. Apparently they were talking about the picture of just Scott with a fan, from the concert Lawes went to yesterday evening.

    25. Got it, 6:32 PM. :)

I just want to be clear about these twitter sightings. Think about it. Exactly when they want to be "sighted" and coordinated with what Tessa is doing on twitter, they are. Whenver they want to, like pressing a button, Scott and Kaitlyn Lawes manage to be "sighted" by somebody who recognizes both of them, takes a picture, happens to have an active twitter account, hashtags it properly so everybody can find it. This isn't SOI. It's not a skating event. It's whatever province, whatever local watering hole or venue, and on the exact date and time that coordinates with, say, Scott's birthday, or right after Scott caddies for Tessa, and they always find the person who knows Kaitlyn Lawes and Scott Moir and wants it on twitter. There's never a fail. Damn, we couldn't get a tweet up for Scott's birthday, turns out nobody in this Starbucks recognized Moir/Lawes AND had twitter.

Never happens. There's always someone on the spot. There must be five of these people in every bar, restaurant, concert and mall in every province in Canada. Scott can go around days and weeks at a time and nobody knows who he is no matter where he is (including London and Canton), but suddenly it's magic - he's recognized at will, and by someone with a twitter account and that person can't wait to share.

      Delete

    27. You forgot about no one also knowing how to work their phone either when Scott was thrown out of the bar while drunk and high. No problems operating phones for karaoke though!

It's also worth pointing out that tweets and even photos can be planted on social media to make it appear that one or both of them are doing something they're not really doing at the moment or to make it looks like they're thousands of miles apart when they're not. I think a lot of people would do well to remember that as we go through the next few months of what is the homestretch of what appears to be Tessa's second pregnancy. Plonk a few photos out claiming Tessa's doing something glamorous when she's really at home with a screaming newborn and jealous preschooler. That kind of thing.

I'm sure a gorgeous figure skater who is currently active on twitter (unlike Scott, who has gone to ground) is never recognized except at an event she's promoting, where Scott can't go out without running into somebody with an active twitter account who is both a curling fan AND an ice dance fan (if someone recognizes Kaitlyn Lawes, it is automatic they'd recognize an ice dancer? Turns out yes! And vice versa.) Fortunately for Scott and Tessa, when they were in Saskatoon for the golf event, nobody recognized them whatsoever, except at the event itself. Not a hotel lobby. Not on the street. Not getting breakfast. Stands to reason the two of them together would be recognized less often than Scott and Kaitlyn, who are recognized and tweeted about like clockwork. There's a huge demographic cross-over between curling and ice dance.

Yes! I alluded to this earlier as well, but wanted to highlight again, because it's VERY important to remember. Tweets and pictures and sightings can all be purposely misrepresented..

      Delete
    32. Tweets and pictures and sightings can be and often are misrepresented. For the sham, I've pointed out how obvious it is that the Kaitlyn/Scott tweets are plants. There is no way that everywhere they go, even in the most ordinary of places, and following specific patterns going on years (such as his birthday weekend), they can almost at will be jointly recognized by somebody who knows who they both are, has an active twitter account, and uploads/tags it immediately. Give me a break. Meanwhile, Tessa Virtue is never tweeted from The Bungalow, from shopping (Look who I saw at Saffron Road!), at the hairdressers, out with her friends, out with other skaters. Amazing.

When Scott and Kaitlyn were spotted with his parents, it's a matter of no effort for Alma/Joe/Scott to send a picture from their phone to somebody else, somewhere else, who then tweets "OMG guess who is at the next table." Let's send the pic to two people, to be sure the tweets are picked up by the public.

Some people here also insist that Scott and Tessa's marriage would be exposed on the web by any number of people - a hotel concierge, staff at a venue, etc. The very same people who never tweet a report that Scott and Tessa are around at ALL. How many hotels have they been to? How many restaurants? How many times have these platonic partners, by their own account, been to the same place. Tessa Virtue had two surgeries for CES, right in the heart of London. Once prior to 2009 Canadians, and once in the weeks following the height of her fame, after winning the Olympics. Not a nurse, nursing assistant, desk staff, orderly, parking attendant, therapist, food delivery person, x-ray technician, receptionist, etc. put it out there. She could have kept it secret forever. She's a patient with her actual name on all the records.

But let Scott Moir wander in ... anywhere, on any weekend, a slightly built, ordinary looking guy, and we can be sure he will be instantly spotted by somebody with a phone who uploads it to social media. Ice dance must be way more popular than I thought. I heard that many people attending recent Canadians competitions weren't even sure of the names of all of the skaters, but I guess ice dance must be way more popular outside the actual sport than it is inside, and the skaters more recognizable.

Remember when they were invited to dine with the Queen and Prince Phillip. The only report we got was straight from Tessa Virtue. Nobody at the dry cleaner's/tailors recognized them (where Tessa said Scott's suit was altered and they picked it up), nobody at the hotel where they stayed recognized them, nobody where they had breakfast recognized them, etc. But let Kaitlyn Lawes and Scott be in the same location at any time, and it's a dead certainty they'll be amateur papped and then tweeted. Right.

First of all, as has been pointed out, a lot of the sightings are intersecting with what he's doing anyway, where he's going to be, and other things on his agenda, just as happened with Jessica.

The sham is not about getting people to believe anything. No matter how obvious it is that it's no longer about privacy, and it's no longer about what people believe, since they actively call attention to themselves.

I am saying it's coordinated and he's not recognized bam on schedule by people with instagram accounts exactly according to predicatble patterns. He can go half his life without being recognized, and suddenly he's not just recognized all the time, but during a particular period of time coinciding with specific events in his and Tess's schedule/life, coordinated with something Tessa sets up as doing away from him. Why do they do that? It's mean.

And don't anyone counter with, "they don't owe anything to the fans." They owe the fans some respect. If they didn't have fans they wouldn't enjoy the benefits of celebrityhood, complete with sponsorships and many other paid goodies--thanks to the fans!!

If they really didn't "owe" fans anything, then they could please shut the hell up about their private lives, real or implied, and concentrate on themselves as skaters and athletes, instead of setting up fake relationship encounters for the special benefit of the fans, to whom they owe nothing.

Yes it is. And completely typical. They deploy their charm and their "adorability" to sucker fans in, fans fall for it, they're strung along, and then, abruptly, the supply is cut off. But they got everybody's attention. Then here comes the sham in a steady stream through September 2. Every single fucking time leading up to and through September 2 since 2009 this shit has gone down.

    46. "Their public lives are a hoax. I hope they're proud of themselves for the successful sell of their lies for so many years to so many people who did nothing to deserve being treated like dupes."

I don't know how successful it is. It's successful because they're not accountable; the main stream media won't acknowledge it. Are they successful in convincing fans they're not together, for whatever reasons they now pretend they want fans to think they're not together? I don't know. A lot of fans know for themselves that they're married and have a daughter. A lot of fans may not know it, but believe it, and keep it off their public discussions, as mentioned before.

And a TON of fans lie their asses off. In the past there have been fans proactively going after people who know or believe the truth about Scott and Tessa, claiming to know first hand that his relationship with Jessica was longstanding, thriving and true, citing various connections to the Moirs, claiming to have witnessed first hand. It would be either "I know the family, and you could not be more wrong, I am close with so and so and I don't know why you spread these lies." and the other tactic would be, there I was, minding my own business, not even thinking about figure skating, and I just happened to be here and and just happened totally by random coincidence to see Scott and Jessica having sex. I wasn't even sure it was them at first.

The stories are LEGION. I don't believe those latter fans are actually plants. I think those fans, based on who they were and their patterns, were just fans who couldn't stand having popular narratives usurped and tried to use eyewitness claims as a smoking gun to shut it down.

    48. 1:53 PM - the mean has surfaced many times, but it's one of their go to's. I think it works, and they're too lazy to come up with another tactic. As this Lawes thing goes on, the platform may be different, but the tactics and table setting are exactly the same. As the blog said back in 2012

      http://dubemoir.blogspot.com/2011/03/psych-remembering-monaco.html

Scott and Tessa set the table at the press conference at Worlds, talking about taking a trip to Monaco together after Worlds. The entire fandom was on the edge of their seats, not hoping directly for actual romance, but hoping it might be a step in that direction, or at least good friends enjoying Monaco together. Despite sharing a ton of other albums on facebook, the Moirs shared nothing of either the Olympics or Worlds more interesting than a photo of, say, a kiosk in a poorly lit venue corridor, an empty wine glass on a table beside a crumpled napkin, and an auxillary Moir decked out in winter garb shot long distance on the plaza near the PNE. Scott and Tessa were in the Olympics but their Olympic albums showed no Scott and Tessa.

Then Alma posts "After Torino! - Monaco!" and an album of Jessica spam in Monaco.

They did the same thing with the reality show. Look again at the promos for it, the bumpers for it, the little title shots for it. Happy, connected, funny, pretty, affectionate Scott and Tessa. Smiling, fresh-scrubbed, winking, arms linked, arm on shoulder, teasing, kidding. Come see the chemistry that has captivated the world! Once inside the tent, fans are treated to a sour exercise in mutual aversion, barely controlled impatience and contempt (Scott), and an endless narrative about how much better Scott is than Tessa, who is worth nothing. Scott kind of agrees, but is too much of a gentleman (although not TOO too much, cause he's not gay) to say it outright. That was bait and switch. It's what they do.

When, on Thanksgiving, Conor Hilborn uploaded a photo of what he said was his house, and his house was rigged for filming, everybody's like OMG, Scott's at the Hilborns for thanksgiving, as if that can't be two weeks before.

The patterns aren't what prove Scott and Tessa are married. I know for a fact they're married as do other people. Once you know that, you SEE the patterns. A lot of people seem to be doing it backwards. In addition, people ought to learn the difference between tweets, uploaded images, and reality.

    55. And don't forget she didn't have to be traveling at all. I find it suspicious that she gave a shout out to a specific flight attendant/partner in crime.

    56. "and a sweet flight attendant who took special (pity) care of her..."

I think that's my favorite of the travel tweets. The special attendant who "brightened my night." That implication of all-night traveling. Geez, I thought at least she was returning to Monaco or visiting sister in Australia. Nope, it turns out she was on an all-day-and-night journey to Alberta.
      Bwahahahaha.

    57. First of all, some of these so-called sightings may not even have happened. Even if they did, he is still has not spent the last "2 weeks" with her. Goodness.
It also looks like this "sighting" today was potentially not even them. Having said that, if it was them, then they wanted to be seen, and you can bet your bottom dollar that "some random fan of both of them" will post it on social media. Or, KL will tweet something about being in Toronto (whether they really were/are or not).

My take on it is that it's not 100% always plants that "spot" them and tweet about it, although I do think this is the majority of it for the reasons oc has mentioned above about them almost never being recognized unless it's convenient. But also, if they want to make themselves known they are somewhere, they make sure they make themselves known. Whether it be they themselves, someone else they ask to help out, or perhaps they use some sort of attention to "announce" them. For example, all they need is a friend to yell out his full name to him across a group of people at a festival... and/or if the other one isn't recognized, it's easy to say, "hey, you know my bf/gf, ____, right?" I don't think this is used as the primary social media alert, but I think it could be used as a secondary on occasion, figuring anyone there to corroborate the appearance is helpful to their agenda. I hope that made sense. I feel like I'm not explaining well what I'm trying to say.

    58. Yeah, oc @ 2:27, that was my 3rd option listed. It's so easy to upload old photos online.

Yes, 2:29. I felt the doc about NZ, especially in conjuncture with the implication of traveling ALL day, was supposed to be subliminal. I thought that's what we were supposed to be assuming, (not that I believed it), until she posted the picture from AB. While I'm not yet convinced that picture was in real time, I'm not sure what the point it was since it only draws attention to inconsistencies. Maybe because it was on a mountain, so that means Ryan? Or if it's more of the whole, I'm flying all day and hiking, so definitely not pregnant! Anyways, she doesn't collectively make much sense, so maybe she's just piling on the confusion factor so fans don't know what's up, other than the fact that she is definitely NOT with Scott, especially on his birthday weekend. Because why would she be there for her best friend's birthday?
Now I will give a sliver of credence to the fact that she may legitimately be in AB for a wedding (she did have that Bachelorette party last weekend), or to possibly celebrate another friends' birthday this weekend. That still doesn't erase the fact that there was definitely some sort of misrepresentation going on.

That's what I believe also. Clearly, sometimes they will be recognized by overeager fans who will be happy to instagram and/or tweet about it. But if they are "randomly" recognized, I don't for a moment believe Scott and the gf are taken unawares. To "be seen" means there was a deliberate plan put in place to be somewhere public where the intention is to be seen. If the random fan didn't post about it, then IMO they would have someone plant the report as if it were random. Either way, their history shows these patterns and they're predictable. They're playing the fans, having fun manipulating social media.

    60. "or to possibly celebrate another friends' birthday this weekend."

Because naturally, another friend's birthday takes priority over her best friend's birthday. The one whose been there with her/for her the last 17 years. It's his birthday? Pfffttt! Bye-bye.

(I say publicly acknowledged because did anyone *really* believe them that they've shunned social media all these years? Yeah right. And at just the right moment, when they decide to "oh shucks, I'll join..." they miraculously feel totally at home and they know how to use twitter, instagram.. imagine that. They're geniuses.)

    2. I think the VM Lite flak faded after Olympics 2010. Some of it is because Scott and Tessa acquired so much more power and attack in their skating - huge blade run, and did two very aggressive, conspicuously athletic programs - Hip Hip Chin Chin/Temptation and Carmen. Some of it is because Paul Islam's profile has risen and their skating has gotten more exposure. We can see past the superficial resemblances (superficial resemblances which in most cases come down, IMO, to Alex Paul's fair skin tone, balletic carriage/back, and near-faultless taste in costuming).

    2. "This has been a big weekend since 2009. I think that most fans would have forgotten about it, but for Scott and Tessa, it's sham tradition."

Actually, it could be said starting with Tessa's birthday in May, all the way through Scott's in September (Labor Day weekend), is a period of time that's sham tradition. They go out of their way on both birthdays to establish themselves as separate AND partying with their own SO's. In-between are the traditional summer shamming events we've learned to expect.

This year, with VM not on the normal training/competing schedule, going forward things might look a little different, as far as much more shamming from Scott? If his wife Tessa is indeed pregnant and not as much in the public eye, what else is there for Scott to do, right? It's not like he can have it be known he's hanging out with what's-her-name Tessa. Heaven forbid.

About Alma now linked to lawes on twitter -- no one should ever forget this:
      http://dubemoir.blogspot.com/2011/03/psych-remembering-monaco.html

Perfect Exhibit A as to what Alma and the rest of Moirville are about re. Scott's "relationships" that are not Tessa. The malice is not even subtle. Mean for the sheer joy of screwing over the fans. Bait and switch. Now facebook is sort of pase, it's all about twitter and instagram, but it's like oc said above, where he/she gave that link to the Monaco post:
"As this Lawes thing goes on, the platform may be different, but the tactics and table setting are exactly the same."

This thing may have started out as a desire for privacy but it's clear that is no longer a reason. They did grow up out of that "need" for personal privacy but instead of coming clean they've resorted to maintaining the fake narratives just because. It provides endless fun for all involved. And keeps the fans in their place... those stupid fans. How dare they desire truth and respect.

    1. How come there's always a long term fan who accidentally spots Scott and whatever social media "girlfriend" he's got in some smoking gun scenario (always the same scenario - kissing. ON THE LIPS. No media around or fans! Totally authentic!) but nobody ever has these accidental sightings until the relationship has hit the internet. Nobody ever sees skaters macking down on each other prior to the relationship being in public. Once it's public, suddenly, and pretty quickly, all of a sudden there are "sightings." With Scott, it's amazing. Every single public girlfriend he's ever had, and as small a group as skating fans are compared to the general population, he's been totally by coincidence not just spotted WITH the "gf" but spotted in a romantic activity.

What? Someone is saying they've already seen the happy couple kissing?

      Delete
    3. Check out some comments up thread. There's a blog visitor who says Scott is definitely romantically involved with Kaitlyn because a they were "accidentally" sighted by a long-term fan (clearly, long term fans are more credible than new fans).

We know what this means. As many fans have before this one, this fan had the random luck to see Scott and his current gf kissing ON THE LIPS. The fan will report there is NO WAY they could know she was a fan, and there was NO WAY this was for the public. No cameras around!

Btw, four years ago, a fan claimed to see Scott Moir at The Bay. She reported to the internet that he saw she recognized him, he told her he was at The Bay with his girlfriend (who was not at his side at the time). It went round the web that Scott had been at The Bay with Jessica.

Now, less than a day ago, we have this twitter account:

      https://twitter.com/dianasaur

tweeting that she wonders if she should spring up from her seat at the restaurant to confirm she just saw Scott Moir and his gf at The Bay.

Now remember Tessa in her lovely print dress photographed with these beautiful ladies:

I don't think any fan has claimed to have seen them kissing yet that I know of... there was an anon on tumblr that said they were cuddly at the Olympic parade dinner in Calgary, and the person up-thread who stated they were definitely romantically involved (but offered no further explanation or "proof", of course... not that a picture of them making out is "proof" of anything.)
Although, I'm sure this is all coming. Most likely sooner, rather than later, esp given the bday.
If you look at that Twitter from yesterday, the girl backpedaled to saying she actually wasn't sure if it was them she saw or not. If nothing else comes of it, I'm going to call jumpy fan based on her profile. If KL stays silent though, (like she has been), there's nothing to contradict, so they can use that "sighting" to their advantage (because you can bet your bottom dollar they know it was put out there), and fans will assume it was true and definitely them.
However, I will say when I read that tweet about them "being" at The Bay, my first thought was definitely Tessa's mysterious meeting. There's more to that whole thing...

That's who I'm talking about - the comment above who claims a long-time fan "accidentally" saw them. Couple that with "definitely" and "unmistakeably" we are talking the same shit. Here goes:

"Oh I wasn't even thinking of figure skating. They were being very discreet. The only reason I recognized them was I'm a long-time fan. Nobody else would have noticed them. They were kissing and acting like a definite couple. There were no cameras around or fans. I was the only one who knew who they were. I'm only telling people because I'm tired of that crazy blog and people believing. I'm hardly ever on message boards."

He still got to touch, kiss, ass grab. He did it. And family and friends (people their children will know) rushed in to approve, to praise as #hotcouple, #socute, etc.

Not saying she's definitely not there... he could be out there for a few days celebrating with her, and then back to wherever by tomorrow, (or just have the pics and "sightings" lined up for tomorrow)... but given the discrepancies in her tweets, I'm suspicious of any and all of it.

In any event, the reason Scott continues to do it is if you keep on doing it, and respectable people cooperate and approve, it's not wrong. It's no different than in the sport itself. Respectable people thought there was nothing wrong with Davis White hijacking a gold medal they didn't earn, and then running around selling themselves as Olympic champions. Respectable people thought there was nothing wrong with people who knew better, pretending they didn't. It's figure skating. It has a trash demo. Why shouldn't the supporters of figure skating be treated that way?

      Delete
    7. Both are extremely troubling. If he honestly deluded himself, it's obnoxious. But he knows the value of a gold medal, and what it means, and he must know the value of VM's skating. He thinks it's okay to deny the actual skating in order to "reward" the Federation and, no doubt, his parents. Does this mean every Fed and every set of parents that "invest" in a skater/skaters will also receive a "your turn" gold medal? Is it the participation trophy for rich people?

      Delete
    8. OC 6:27. That was certainly part of the DW PR leading up to Sochi. The poor dears who worked so hard. They were deserving because of their hard work. It was an intentional message.

      Delete
    9. The hard work rationale is grotesque. Everybody in skating works hard. As the blog pointed out at the time, not everybody has hundreds of thousands of dollars to pump into their child's skating career, the child gets to train virtually in their own backyard their entire lives, and is able to continue an extremely comfortable lifestyle.

Charlie's words leave the impression that the USFSA and his and Meryl's parents were owed a gold medal for all the effort they put into pushing this team forward and dragging them to the top. Charlie is happy he didn't fall down on the day, so he got the gold medal the USFSA and his parent$$ had earned. Every skating parent and Fed deserves a gold medal return on their investment. Wait, no. Just them.

      The entitlement is really something.

      Delete
    10. Maybe the USFSA and Charlie/Meryl's parents feel owed because they know damn well the skating didn't get them there. All the deals, the relationship leveraging, the influence capital expended, staying on the case, orchestrating the narrative. Charlie's practically saying they all got it for us, not us, so we were so relieved.

My favorite part of the fan tweets is how they try to "play it cool" despite being around such incredible, awesome, great, amazing people. There's sham here, but there's also a heavy duty push to amp up Lawes' status(and to a much lesser extent, Scott Moir) by this pattern of fans who not only spot her and recognize Scott (who knew curling/ice dance had such a cross-over), but are absolutely humbled to be in the presence of the awesome.
