London Knights 2005 |
P.S. - I'm going with this - below - as the story they'll share - I wrote this in the comments section of one of the posts below but it belongs here:
I could write this story! I bet I'm familiar with the same TV plots as the Moirs. Lots of times there will be a tease that "X" (male) on a given show is jealous of "Y's" (female) friendship with another guy. The audience gets all excited and when the show airs, it turns out that "X" is jealous that "Y" gets to be close to some guy "X" admires.
Saw this plot on both 30 Rock AND a rerun of Everybody Loves Raymond. Marie thought Frank was romantically jealous of her friendship with some guy and turns out Frank was mad because he had more in common with the guy and had tried to become friends himself and instead Marie got to be friends.
Scott can really use his acting muscles with this one - the mock outrage and the adorability that little Tessa was the one who was buddies with the Knights. It'll push "lip bump" out of the top spot.
I can see it now. The whole London Knight thing will tease the public that Scott was "jealous" of Tessa's friendship with the guys of the hockey team, and just as the public gets excited by the tease - BOOM - he was jealous that they were friends with her and not him.
Here's the team, straight from wikipedia. www.londonknights.com. Who's the lucky guy?

Plenty of age appropriate birthdates, only need to make sure that the chosen guy wasn't 6'1" and 205 lbs at the time, as some of them were, which is difficult to envision with circa 2005 Tessa.
Look at Drew Larman. Just checked facebook. He's handsome, from Canton, currently still in the game, playing for Florida.
What I've seen so far plenty of these guys are eligible for the job. If I could force myself to check out every.single.one we could do odds like for the Kentucky Derby.
Imagine that, a 16-yr-old hung out with these guys enough to become good friends!! And all while she was living two hours away from home and very busy with her own training and schooling. And Scott never got to meet them!
ReplyDeleteAll of them! She befriended the WHOLE TEAM!
Delete"we should google and hunt for the one who is most tone deaf with the most inert IQ."
ReplyDeleteLol. Well really, what other kind of bozo would agree to this?
Here's an alternate theory for these bizarre mentions of Tessa and the 2005 team: That at that time, Tessa and one of these guys (one of the youngest, of course) had a teen romance. Never mind that she would have been underage and dating an official adult. I wouldn't expect VM and their camp to pay attention to little details like that.
ReplyDeleteBut -- by giving her a bf back then, and the guy shows up during Worlds and says it was so, it would mean she and Scott could not possibly have been together since forever, as this blog says. It's very neat. It tries to discredit the blog and at the same time Tessa doesn't *have* to be dating one of them right now.
I thought of that too. Maybe they remembered that back at the June 2010 'Gold Medal Celebration" Scott gave his 'buddies' a baleful look and remembered how 'those guys kept me in line, constantly hitting on Tessa whenever I brought her out."
DeleteMaybe now they think it could be misconstrued - as in Scott was jealous. Oops. Oh, no no. She could do what every teen girl does, befriend an entire TEAM of championship hockey players 4-5 years older than she was, without it bugging him.
And, as you say, if they really can't stand the idea of the truth, they can do a "Oh, Tessa's bf as a teen was this dude, and then later WE fell in love but it was way way later." You know, so they're not embarrassed when we look at film of them as juniors. They're very sensitive and self-conscious, these two. For two people who on the one hand don't care what people think, on the other they're obsessed with what people think, and God forbid they think they each married their first and only love. Their families and friends already know this though, so what do they even CARE about the rest of us?
They must simply be casting about for lies to tell. It must feel strange not to have a huge one to put over at all times.
I think you're right (or we are, although you "said" it first). It's being polished up as another little anecdote about their childhood, like when they never dated except for when they were in grade school, after which he dumped her (except for when they "briefly" dated as teens, which someone in their camp put out to the media after the Olympics before it was apparently pulled in favor of elementary school heartbreak.

Still, so odd how Steve Milton missed Tessa befriending the entire freaking 2005 London Knights championship hockey team, and how that wasn't worked into the book at the time. It would have accounted for when they were "on their own" away from parents (before they pretended Kate moved in with Tessa) and explain why Scott and Tessa stayed platonic despite being so close, away from home, and dependant on one another. Well, see, she was friends with a whole male hockey team. That stopped her from falling into an ill-advised fling with Scott.
DeleteWeird Milton missed it. Great story. Wonder which Moir family genius gets the credit.

Oh wait - they got the idea from the original "Everybody dance now".
DeleteScott was wearing a London Knights jersey for it in tribute to Tessa's then-relationship with her boyfriend. Of course they both have such fond memories of that romance of Tessa's that they did the routine again as their Olympic exhibition in 2010.
Seriously for some of this stuff the blog should ape fsu and set up a poll.

"which someone in their camp put out to the media after the Olympics before it was apparently pulled in favor of elementary school heartbreak."
DeleteLoool. So hilarious, the way their stories never quite manage to match up seamlessly. These Knights' Team anecdotes will just be more of the same. The question is, which chump did they get to go along? Any guesses yet? And will this dude remember all of his lines? Semple kept forgetting his. Lol
I think Jessica should get together with Ryan Semple and Cassandra with the Knight dude. That would be so awesome. HAHA
What I'm dying to hear is how the ever-protective, ever-present Kate managed to let her 15-16 year old daughter befriend an entire team of much older guys. And as someone said in another comment, a great majority of professional hockey dudes can be expected to be asshats. But Tessa's parents had no problems with this. In fact, they let their precious much-younger daughter date one of these older guys.
DeleteYEAH RIGHT.
They're not that much older - some were younger than Scott. The age spread works.
DeleteNot that it really matters, because the whole thing is beyond ridiculous...but I posted this a couple ones down, again - the OHL is mostly 16-19, with a limited number of 15 and 20 year olds. She would have just turned 16, so for most of the guys on the team, the difference wouldn't have been more than it was with her actual boyfriend.
ReplyDeleteAnon 7:21 I'm 7:26. Ok. So they could possibly manage to go back in time and find a suitable candidate. I'll take back that part. But like you say, the whole thing is still beyond ridiculous. And I don't take back the general unsuitability of a young Tessa hanging out with an entire team of dudes, no matter the ages. I'm also not believing for a minute Scott wouldn't have also befriended the team, if any part of this story is true.
DeleteWell even if there was a boyfriend at 16 - this would surprise me - do you remember tessa at 16 - she looked juniorish...hockey players at that level are usually
Deletebigger than your average joe for that age group. Factor in that these guys travelled all the time throughout Ontario and Tessa was in Canton and let's face it - I don't think cell phones and facebook were the rage back then..how serious was this relationship/friendship...oh and let's face it..when did Tessa and Scott have that much free time? On the weekends? I would imagine that Tessa was probably studying or just chilling with her family back home and not exactly going to every London Knights game...I am not saying it's not possible but for me it's reaching...
Anon 7:43
Delete"I am not saying it's not possible but for me it's reaching..."
Hell yeah, it's reaching. For all the reasons you gave, plus that I do believe Tessa was already with Scott at that time. Otherwise they wouldn't be so desperate to find her a teen-age boyfriend. I bet there's some photo or other of Tessa in attendance at some sports' function where this team would also have been in attendance. Easiest thing in the world to reach back and declare it to be something besides a casual photo of fellow athletes. The way these people play fast and loose with photos - I can see it already.
Anon here at 7:43 - It always seems that Tessa is the one that still has disappointment in the fact that they didn't make the 2006 Olympics. So knowing the disappoitment she still holds over that and probably all the hard training that went into 2005 - can you see an elite hockey player boyfriend in the picture as well...and not only mom and dad approving but older brothers that were athletes as well? So yeah - Scott - yeah off limits to you but mostly frat-boy mentality - oh go ahead...
DeleteWell obviously the reality is she was with Scott, went to her high school stuff with Scott, her boyfriend was Scott. There's no reaching because it simply wasn't true. She didn't befriend the whole freaking team.
DeleteThe question here is - why has Pyette dropped this info into two pre-Worlds articles? I could see doing some strained comparison between the thrill the London Knights gave London back then and the thrill London hopes VM gives them at Worlds, but what's with emphasizing that SHE 'befriended' them and he merely 'rooted' for them, instead of saying they both got to be friends with the team or both rooted. What the fuck with the distinction and why is he (which means why are Scott and Tessa) at such pains to make it. Overkill is a sham hallmark - Barb loved to repeat too, and in the same framework, like here.
I think the connection with their London Knights/ballerina exhibition at the time is unfortunate, but you know they think it just proves how super duper acting they always were, since she was with a REAL London Knight back then, and Scott not only didn't care, he acted out her relationship with her boyfriend on ice, just for fun! It was inspired by that!
Hey Toddler Moir - another one for the therapist's office! Right up there with the article about how your daddy has fallen in love ... with your baby cousin. (Remember that? 'Sorry fans, Scott Moir is in love. Her name is Charlotte, she's he's neice, blah blah.'). His own child can hunt archives now til doomsday and never see dad mentioning his love for them in an article. The neice, though, apparently will appreciate it or it wouldn't have been written.
Let's suppose misdirection has occurred and his brothers are actually pretending their child's name is the name of Scott's own child, so that Scott can mention her name and everyone thinks it's the neice. Pretend it's Charlotte who is Scott's child, and she reads years from now how she was Uncle Danny's kid and daddy loves her like an uncle.
The other question is - who dropped the ball in 2010? Canadians was in London in 2010 - never a mention of Tessa's historical friendship with the entire London Knights team back then. Milton's book - nothin.
Too funny about Steve Milton missing this one. Tessa and Scott have practically twisted themselves in knots explaining their special specialness without ever dating (except as children, but they've given conflicting details). This Knights story would have taken care of some of these difficulties in past attempts to explain themselves (and let's not even get into the absurdity that they thought they needed to explain themselves in the first place).
ReplyDeleteThere's one tiny little problem I'm seeing with this possible story - are we to believe the Canadian ice-dance Junior champion was dating a guy from the champion hockey team, and no one ever ever never said anything? The guy never boasted to his buddies? No one ever ever never took a romantic, couple-photo? (Any photos produced right now I expect to be innocuous, like any other fan photos). The local media never ever jumped on this story? All these years Tessa and Scott had this up their sleeve to easily "prove" they couldn't have been a couple off-ice, and it never ever came up?
Yes. So so believable.
I know - never came up! A hometown story - never mentioned it when they were "promoting" London, had Canadians in London in 2010, or wrote the book of platonic love that included a photo of Jessica in the buggy in the flyleaf. All the cute stories they make up and they never remembered this.
DeleteAlso, considering these guys were drafted from different parts of Canada, or other teams, and some came from different home towns, and they were a hockey team, not a school team, how the HELL did Tessa befriend the entire freaking team? Do they know how asinine that sounds? Or is saying that just their way of keeping the rabbit under the hat before surprising us with the old bf? The problem is by saying she was friends with the whole team, that immediately is such a WTF people start paying attention to that.
I'll vote for her supposedly currently dating the guy from Canton. They like placing Tessa's SO's at Canton...Fedor, Semple.... I wonder what's wrong with Scott that both Jessica and Cassandra don't hang out with him in Michigan. He only gets to see them back home in Ilderton. But Tessa's lovers actually get to be in her bedroom at Canton. Lucky dudes, eh?
ReplyDeleteYeah, me too. Larman looks like he fits the bill. I'd put his odds at 2-2 at this point. He plays for Florida, but his home town is Canton. Back then he was a London Knight whose home town was Canton - perfect.
DeleteTo my mind, the editors who employ both Pyette and Milton ought to be asked why they are allowed to function as Virtue and Moir's personal flacks simply because the sport is figure skating. I know Rosie DiManno's editor explained that she was assigned to Worlds because she begged and begged - she loves covering figure skating. That's a great reason to assign a reporter ignorant of the sport, who brags about her ignorance, and who spent an entire article writing about the effect on her of Robin Szolkovy's pants.
But Pyette - TWICE now he's been no better than Libby Grubman with this London Knight shit. He's helping VM set the public up, just as Milton helps them lie. Why is this okay? Figure skating has female fans so it doesn't matter? These journalists are allowed to moonlight - on their publication's payroll - as pr flunkies for favored athletes? These are not opinion columns, this is "reportage" and they're not just mouthpieces; they're actually lying.
Just as an fyi - Larman is no playing professional hockey - last played in 2010-11...
DeleteAnd to boot - it seems that Mr. Larman is an aspiring amateur filmaker...well that's it for me tonight but oiee if it is Mr. Larman...are normal jobs like accountants passe? LOL...
DeleteOK first, this whole backdating the boyfriend thing is only a prediction at this point. I certainly don't put it past them, but they also may try to frame it as an old friendship that suddenly blossomed into romance.
DeleteMy money is on the Canton guy, but 9:14's right -http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=71844 - last active in the NHL in 2010, and doesn't appear to be currently active with a professional team, but if anything I think that increases the odds. I do not think an NHL player would be allowed/risk being involved in a funny farm operation like this. Also means he wouldn't be permanently stationed that far from his lady.
Got it - old "Larman" community facebook must have been abandoned and not recorded his retirement. So he's got some availability and is an aspiring filmmaker?
DeleteYes, all of this is conjecture but let's be real with Pyette's articles. He's less subtle than Barb MacDonald. Working that in twice without explaining further was just bizarre "she befriended, Scott rooted for". Seriously, in two articles about something else entirely, why take pains to not just include that but make those distinctions?
Just wanted to note that it seems like Tessa spent the evening at a concert with a group of friends. Girl friends. No sign of any hockey players. Yet.
ReplyDeleteLol I think we know which social media accounts to look to when Tessa's new man is finally unveiled. They had to get that out there somehow. Stay tuned to these instagram accounts for more!
DeleteOK people keep referencing instagram...I've been told it's easy to find these pictures, so maybe I'm an idiot, but could someone offer up a keyword or something?
DeleteA tag I guess...see what I mean? help!
Delete12:22, these ones can be found using just a simple Twitter search for Tessa's name. It's not complicated like the ones with Semple were.
DeleteI'm sure there's a deeper, darker meaning to the pics but perhaps Tessa was just enjoying a break from the pre-Worlds stress and going out with her friends. These girls at least seem more like Tessa-friend material than Semple's crew did.
Yes - while it's impossible to put anything past anything that pops up with either Tessa or Scott on instagram, and while benefit of the doubt only ever bites fans in the ass, the purpose of the instagram photo so far seems to be to celebrate yet another friend who has worked hard to become a performer. The women - including Tessa - were there to see this milestone in their friend's life - she was singing that evening.
DeleteThe person whose instagram it is uses it all the time to promote her causes, her friends' achievements, and her own passions (fitness and healthy living). And her own mom was in the Olympics in 1972.
"while it's impossible to put anything past anything that pops up with either Tessa or Scott on instagram, and while benefit of the doubt only ever bites fans in the ass,"
DeleteIkr. Too many times fans have been duped with VM set-ups. But this photo of Tessa with friends does look legit. So for now I give it the benefit of the doubt.
I agree that Pyette's bizarro reporting about VM vis-a-vis the 2005 London Knights team has to be for some specific reason. And given the history here, it's to be expected it's to scam the fans. (So what's new)
Tessa's friends are friends with Scott's friends. Hey, wait a minute, they don't have complete and distinctly separate groups of friends?
DeleteMy word.
Hmmm...my gaslighting prediction for T would be 3-4 days after Worlds is done...
DeleteIs Cassandra still tweeting her head off about her insatiable love for Scott? Posting pics? Lol, that sham platform seems to have been busted. She really doesn't have that many followers/followings. It's funny to think of all that "love" aimed at just a small group of friends.
Delete"Tessa's friends are friends with Scott's friends. Hey, wait a minute, they don't have complete and distinctly separate groups of friends?"
DeleteIt all depends on which interview in the last 6-7 years is being used as a reference.
Anon 12:54
DeleteOf course! The separate vacations for this time of the year when Scott and Tessa try to get away as far as possible from each other.
Oooo, this year the fans might be blessed with not one, but two sets of honeymoon beach-photos. Can't wait.
I was looking back at the Semple pics- I didn't realize that picture of SC2011 medal ceremony, TS are looking back at the camera. WTF. I honestly wonder how much more amazing they could be if they didn't waste energy on this shit. Or maybe being the best ice dancers and having a young child just gets boring without all the scripts to follow during a competition weekend.
ReplyDeleteAnon at 3:08 pm - I am not sure which picture specifically you are talking about - but I wouldn't read too much into it. Scott especially has a tendancy to know exactly where his family and friends are sitting and acknowledge them with a wave during a medal ceremony - when they are on the podium. Look at the Olympics FD medal ceremony and you can see that they both acknowledge the Moirs behind them. My two cents..
DeleteAs well there are so many cameras on them that "looking into the camera" is different than when you're on set or being interviewed. The cameras are many yards away with the ability to seem as if they're much closer and directly where the skater can know they're looking into it. There's a lot of red lights on a lot of cameras. I, too, wouldn't read that much into that.
DeleteIt's on his twitter two pictures before the one in bed. It looks posed to me, but I also hear what the two of you are saying.
DeleteAnon at 5:48 pm - this is anon at 3:42 - don't put yourself through the agony of seeing Semple's twitpics...I usually take a peak to see what he is up to...it seems that he is more interested in an Ultimate Fighting Championship event this Saturday in Montreal then the World Figure Skating Championships...and I wouldn't be surprised if he attempts to make a comeback in skiing....cuz this year the guys on the national team haven't exactly had a stellar year and he might think he has an outside chance to make a third Olympic team...my two cents..
DeleteJust saw Liz Manley's twitter - "Off to the World Championships today in London Ont. Can't wait to do Hot Seat in the House with Deb Wilkes @JoannieRochette Jeffrey Buttle" - I have no idea what platform this will be but pray to all GODS this is NOT in-house commentary a la Skate Canada 2012...
ReplyDeleteThey're shameless. If it's actually broadcast into the arena, I'm disappointed in Buttle and Rochette. This is Wilkes covering her ass. People will protest her more quickly than Rochette and Buttle but it's still an awful idea.
DeleteAlso curious if the ISU would really permit four Canadians to be babbling over the public address system at a World Championship. Maybe "hot seat" just means they're going to ambush the skaters directly out of the Kiss'n'Cry. Wonder how you acquire the clout to not get Debbi. You know they all want Jeff.
DeleteHmmm - if I had to guess - this would be for Skatebuzz (crossing fingers)...The CBC has rights to Worlds this year and I don't think Wilkes has as much pull with CBC then with CTV/TSN. Or what I am also thinking is that during the competition in between skaters - perhaps Wilkes/Manley/Rochette/Buttle go into the crowd and ask family members - etc what their feeling - kind of like when Josee Chouinard asked Danny Moir about V/M at the Olympics...I guess we will have to wait and see..
DeleteSeinfeld is another sitcom that has that guys-jealous storyline. Jerry makes friends with Keith Hernandez, and then gets jealous when he starts dating Elaine.
ReplyDeleteOh right - the famous Keith Hernandez episode!
DeleteHAHAHAHAHA - what are you my dad, referencing Seinfeld?!
DeleteJust looked at Pyette's twitter and the guy seems hockey-obsessed..check out these 2 tweets related to Worlds:
ReplyDelete- Regarding US champ Max Aaron: Talked some hockey with US champ Max Aaron today. Nice start to #FSWorlds13
- Regarding Austrian skater Victor Pfeifer: Just talked to Philly Flyers t-shirt wearing Austrian skater Victor Pfeifer. I had my Buffalo Sabres toque on...
So I don't know but Pyette sounds like an idiot to me - if you can't tweet anything about skaters about actual skating and somehow have to put in a hockey related item...then you are an idiot..so perhaps there is a small chance that those 2 mentions of the 2005 London Knight team mentions were a way to connect V/M to hockey..I know it's a small chance...
Anon 8:16 -- I would totally go with your take on Peyette's mentioning the London Knights, if he just had not so deliberately emphasized (twice) that Tessa was "friends" with those guys but Scott only was able to root for them (poor guy). After all these years, and considering how young Tessa and Scott were at that time, it's stupid to make that particular distinction. After almost 10 yrs, who cares?
DeleteI don't think so, that's really just life in Canada. It is absolutely ridiculous that this is how figure skating gets covered, but Pyette is probably just grasping at straws, latching onto anything he feels he understands. The London Knights stuff, on the other hand, is just plain awkward.
DeleteSo, Tessa owns her own home in London, but has to have Mommy with her in Michigan?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.680news.com/2013/03/12/virtue-and-moir-hoping-to-become-canadas-first-hometown-world-champions/
3:09
DeleteYeah, isn't that interesting.
What's more interesting is VM's history of manipulating their stories and any personal information for reasons other than a desire to be open and genuine. So we'll see...maybe they have some other (false) "information" that will twist this in a malicious way. Sorry for my cynicism. It's what I've come to expect from these people.
That's my fear as well, 4:20. You have to be cynical with them because they haven't given us any reason not to be. What do they have waiting in the wings...
DeleteWhat happened to T/S & M/C being best of friends?
ReplyDeleteBecause some random skating blogger declared that they aren't friends anymore, that Scott can only befriend people who are below him and Meryl and Tessa don't go to lounch everybody starts believing their friendship is over.
DeleteAnon 2:12
DeleteDefinitely, it's nuts how some fans declare they absolutely cannot be friends and everyone runs with it.
I think they're all good friends just like always. All Scott said was they're not bff. They don't need to be in order to be good friends. And who knows, maybe there are bff elements sometimes but they aren't telling the media.
That blogger didn't even declare they weren't friends - he simply has his own archtypical soap opera version of how things must be and assigns the roles to those skaters - the women are divas and he seems to react personally to the guys. I don't know why he keeps harping on Scott's hips - it's not like Charlie White had amazing hip action in ... anything. He's one of those people who goes by facial expressions and his own projections. IMO he's shown he knows much more about gymnastics as a sport than he does figure skating.
DeleteAbout Scott's remarks - I think he was intentionally downplaying the DW friendship. In the past he and Tessa have both emphasized how reassuring it has been to have DW at international competitions; how the teams have each other's backs and it's great for morale. No, I don't think they're chatting it up during the competition weekends themselves any more than Belbin Agosto and Davis White did during the period of time Charlie/Tanith's relationship and B&A and D&W competing against each other overlapped.
The part that bugs is how Scott is able to switch stores assure listeners of his truthiness "I"m not going to pull the wool over your eyes" whether or not it contradicts anything he's ever said previously.
P.S. - Also was incredibly disingenuous for Scott to say Weaver & Poje "push" him and Tessa. Weaver & Poje struggled to come out ahead of Crone & Poirier; they never push or challenge VM. If Weaver & Poje don't push back Skate Canada is going to have Gilles Poirier on the second tier of the podium next season, maybe three points behind Virtue Moir, while Weaver & Poje miss the Olympics again.
Delete
