Virtue and Moir STILL haven't retired. I'm wondering if they are waiting and seeing if Cizeron's back issues cut short the Papadakis & Cizeron juggernaut. Let's put "back problems" in quotes. Don't wish ill on his back, but if a pretext could be found for pre-Olympic retirement, that would do the sport good. Seriously, THESE are going to be seven time consecutive world champions when all is said and done? That's just absolutely stupid. Nobody's buying it, and it has been driving teams out of the sport. Lie in wait, Scott and Tessa!

They could also be doing their favorite thing - keeping the guesswork up for publicity and content.

I love this on Tessa.
OT: I recently went down the rabbit hole of a body/style classification system called "Kibbe types". It sorts women's optimum clothing style according to the balance (or imbalance) of yin/yang in their body lines, including their facial features and bone structure. Yin being feminine, yang being masculine, but remembering some traits defined as yang are traits many women want (long legs, for example).

If a woman is wearing the 'wrong" lines for her body type, she is still a beautiful woman, but she will look most herself in stuff that matches her lines. I have Tessa pegged as a "soft classic," which means I don't think she looks her best in all the edgy, detailed, geometric, on trend stuff she has often liked to wear, as that stuff is better suited to gamine (for example, her sister Jordan). Ditto for the Audrey Hepburn-esque black leggings/flats thing she used to favor. That's a gamine. It looks juvenile / contrived on the wrong type.

So she looks great here. Stay there, Tessa. It's the difference between "Tessa is styling" (I just can't make myself drop the "g".) and "Tessa is gorgeous."

I can't believe she's not even thirty yet.

I'm focused on the dress because the more-platonic-than-thou remarks seeded throughout the accompanying Walk of Fame articles is instant sleep-spiration, to hijack one of social media's most obnoxious portmanteau trends.

Every once in awhile, something comes along:

I love quotes like this one:
My failures from the past seasons really motivated me to do well," Kihira said through a translator. "I promised myself that I would remember them and never repeat those mistakes again.
Not that the positivity and bright-side-ing of North American sports culture doesn't have its place, but I like when athletes, particularly very young athletes, dispense with subtext.

Nicely done for the elements, feels a little content-lite:

Which is the direction the ISU has been pushing ice dance for years. Just creep on back to the late 1990s. I haven't deconstructed Hubbell and Donohue's elements and in betweens, but my immediate impression is it's pretty cursory. Lots of swinging around for transitions.

They have a lovely, powerful glide, although in the first half Madison's upper body movements call to mind John Mueller's critique of Cyd Charisse's dancing - that she "slams into position." She really slings those shoulders around, and although they won, and stipulating it might not matter, maybe nothing should compete in the power and flow of the glide.

    1. It's funny how the author of this blog stopped writing about VM marriage and their kids.

    3. I noticed that too. Last time it went nuts was the post about Tessa and that guy (athlete) pictures together at 2014 Tiff. (Ah, all that talk of her being pregnant...again...and whoopla. seriously it's crazy fandom fantasies and conspiracy theories that's making look insane). Go on already with life. It's none of your business. Keep it that way. I'm all for the skating posts here.

    4. well Scott being drunk in interviews is not a good image, for me is not a role model anymore. Captain Canada forgot GD who brought the points needed in the team event when his friend flopped, his behavior is not from a role model, and now dating a married woman who is MAGA!! like honestly go and take therapy.

    5. @11:22 you sound familiar ... or maybe it's the same (stupid & unfounded virol being spread at the social boards by some truly delusional "v/m so-called fans" All because this canadian couple doesn't fulfil their fantasy of HEA. *eye roll*

    6. He was drunk in the radio interview, and he captain canada forgot GD, was mean to Alina, he praised PC as if they were the best ever and for him the worst thing on figure skating is people asking if they are dating, not the judging sistem, not how they were robbed in sochi. His behavior is not from a role model.

    7. That's just your own perception. Yes, I've heard this (infamous) interview you speak of. And no, he wasn't drunk. Annoyed, most definitely but not drunk. Who wouldn't if being asked the same personal question when so many times in the past they've always stated (politely and subtly) that it's none of your business. Plus they want you to focus on their programs and competitions, like interviewers normally do with other skaters.

As to their past comments about P/C, you do realize that Tessa and Scott are diplomatic ppl, right? You don't bite the hand (i.e. ISU) that feeds them (so to speak). Past interviews about their opinion on P/C have been complimentary because they have to keep the peace. They aren't overboard on those either. You can find other new pieces where they primarily focus on their own strengths and what they do on ice.

The years of watching Ice Dance I find it has turned more like a pageant, rather than real competition with proper scoring. For most part Tessa and Scott have been scored realistically (and consistently) with their performance. Others, not so much. That's the problem.

And they've addressed the Sochi issue countless times with other reporters. Now you can even read about their own account on what happened leading and during to the Sochi games in their new book. They have been nothing but respectful with Marina as Marina to them. However, there are circumstances that are beyond their control during the whole Sochi thing. Well, actually it began (systematically and subtly panned) before the Sochi games. If you read, watched the pattern of how it all come down to that ...

Like I said, I've watched Ice Dance a long time. Probably, since from Tessa and Scott were halfway during their Juniors before (I continuously watched them and their progress) going into the Senior circuit till now. So, that's a long history and observation of watching ice dance couples and competitions with and without Tessa and Scott. (Not to mention what's being discussed in forum boards and written about them in the news pieces)

  2. Scott Moir friends shitting on Tessa in social media and stirring shit about her... and then people think the partnership is not ending.

    2. You can check Tessa latest post on ig, the first comment of jengal the troll liked by two scott Moir friends.

    3. You said it yourself - they are trolls. And how fairly certain are you that they are Scott's friends? If they are, would you consider them as a true friend? Why should this matter anyhow? Ppl who are a public figures are exposed to hateful rhetoric all the time. I'm pretty sure Tessa and Scott are well aware of that and can choose (or not ) to engage. Point is - better to focus on the overwhelmingly positive messages, rather than the few spiteful ones. Better for you...and your blood pressure. Just saying ...

    4. Because they have pictures of Scott with themm in their own weddings. They are friends of Scott and the Moirs and are out there liking hate comments towards Tessa. Their partnership is broken.

      Delete
    5. Even if they were there at these "friends"/trolls' lives at one point, how does liking a hateful comment equate to a broken partnership? It was a freaking troll who started with a comment throwing shade about what Tessa should post in her IG. If Tessa or Scott saw that someone they knew liking that comment, it only shows that Tessa know who are her true friends and who aren't. For all we know, maybe they are no longer friends. Btw, even if Scott wants to post and share photos of him enjoying a wedding he attended for a friend/family and hanging out with other women, Point is still this - who cares and why should it be our business. They still gave you access to their IG ... and be a target (good or bad)

Btw, what broken partnership are you talking about? They're talking of doing future (skating) projects based on recent interviews. Let them go post whatever they want on their IG. Let them come out with their retirement announcement when the time comes. Let them announce if they are moving forward with something together. Heck, let them come out on their own about their significant other, if it comes to that in the future. Together or separate, it's still their own business ...

    6. TS partnership is broken thanks to his married girlfriend, he was so disrespectful to Tessa in WOF, that trash gf hates Tessa we all could see the way she looked at Tessa, then his friends liking hateful comments against Tessa, other people in his name stirring shit about Tessa. That trash shouldn´t be in WOF, a person who has been like 5 min. in his life he put in the same level of Tessa who has pushing 21 years with so much shit, his speech at WOF was a guilty speech. Then he is no longer in the agents web, he thinks he can manage in his own. He is doing nothing for the partnership, I doubt we will have any new tour. His trash gf has ended their partnership.

    7. @9:32am what are you on about? Are you seriously drinking that koolaid that is in the crazy v/m fandom right now? Where's your proof of him being disrespectful to Tessa during WOF (i have seen the video of his speech btw)? Or that his trashy married GF is doing the same (why? because she was pictured there and that's your evidence?)? Better yet, where is the real proof that your fandom has got you all antsy about a relationship of his with this woman? I'm talking real talk, like words coming from Scott's mouth confirming this. Not some lameass photo you got shared with to show as proof of his relationship. ok? Mind you, I get it. I really do ... you want v/m to be together and whatever but all this you just spewed here, girl, is just gossip/slander at best

    8. I don´t want this scott near Tessa. He is a douche and his married trash trump supporter gf is even worse. There is a video of that piece of trash looking at Tessa with hate, she even didn´t belong there. She is a piece of trash and thanks to her we won´t get any tour and any project of them, because she hates Tessa.

  3. H/D made some major changes to their FD and it worked. P/C fans will argue that they're are just not organic or have that natural movement in comparison. But at least H/D's lifts, strokes and elements are so much stronger. Again, if they competed side by side, we already know who the judges will crown. And thats the travesty ...

  4. It's painful to see how their partnership has ended thanks to a married woman

  6. The double standars of Canadian press when the shit of DP and T came in the past all the people dragged T who was a very young girl, now who is Scott with a married woman all are in silence, when clearly she ended their partnership and this married woman and his other Ilderton Friends are in Internet talking and liking shit against Tessa.

    1. Firstly, If Torville & Dean can work many years together after they retired from competitive circuit, (mind you, they were romantically shipped by fans but that didnt happen in real life since they've married different ppl) so can Virtue and Moir. If her instagram had indicated plus countless interviews she's done lately, it is still happening. Collaberating something together, that is...

Secondly, to say "Tessa find someone who deserves it" would imply she is known to be romantically involved with Scott (but Scott is being a "jerk" by getting involved with someone else. Which in this case, has never been the case). But yes, they both deserve to find someone who can make them happy. And whoever they are with are respectful of the idea that they will be connected with each other while being in a relationship. The End.

    2. Torvill and Dean are still shipped by many of their fans. I suppose it might be the same with Virtue and Moir if they will still work together in 30 years.

      Delete
    3. I saw a documentary on Torvill and Dean years ago which showed them practicing. Torvill was in tears and Dean was speaking harshly to her which made her cry more and she left the ice. I don't get any sense of chemistry from them. And I still say Virtue and Moir are the better ice dancers in every sense of the word.

      Delete
    4. In my opinion no one has the chemistry T&D have, and they still have it after all those years. Virtue and Moir have chemistry, but it is very forced, not natural. And I disagree VM are the better ice dancers.

      Delete
    5. Torvill and Dean's 1994 Olympic program was boring. NO chemistry. Virtue and Moir are never forced. They are perfectionists and their attention to detail is mesmerizing.

      Delete
    6. @1:34 Really? No chemistry? Why don't you just give credit when credit is due to this Canadian couple. Torvill and Dean were one of the greats at their time. And so are Virtue and Moir today. They all brought in something (in their own unique way, passion as well as skating skills) in the ice dance field. They'll all be remembered as GOATs. No need to bring down about the other just because of preferences/opinion

  11. Everybody should leave them alone. She is using her celebrity to make a good life and living selling clothing and moisturizer, etc. And certainly doesn’t need him for that. And he has slipped under the radar hopefully doing something that makes him happy.

  12. Just watched NBCSN's coverage of the rhythm dance at Euros. While P/C were waiting in the K&C, one commentator asked the other if she'd seen any other couples in recent years with a connection like P/C's -- and she immediately said V/M. She also went on to say that P/C are not as versatile as V/M, who could do any type of dance. Hope someone posts that clip on YouTube soon.

    1. That was Sinead Kerr, who skated with her brother John. I liked her commentary, but I AM SO SICK of the endless fawning over P/C. Sorry, they are not the end all and be all to ice dancing (no one couple is; many couples over the years have made their mark). I was hoping against hope that the judges would start to open their eyes and realize that they are not that much better than other couples, wake up, judge correctly, and narrow the ridiculous gap in the scores awarded to P/C and other teams. Sorry to rant, but this is the only place I could find where I can vent my spleen without inciting a riot among the insane P/C posse. I can't bear another four years of the myopic gushing and fanaticism for this couple. YUCK

      Delete
    2. i think P/C in terms of still work in progress. I don't think they deserve those massive scores they've earned to get where they are. Like, I see ex. of H/D, S/K, Shibs execute skate skills way better than them but hey, they do have something "extra" that ice couples still lack. I guess that's suppose to make up for whatever technique they lack ...

  13. There are not enough dicks in this world to suck to get the US another Olympic gold in ice dance. H/D are never going to get one and neither are the 20,000 other ice dance teams that will follow them.

    1. Harsh but yeah, true. But looking at ice dance specifically today, it's one that can be dicked around (so to speak). Too many vague rules and not enough informative journalists to share why such-and-such skates is better. Always with drama of rivalry, relationships, etc. I watched and hear commentators still go by how they feel. Like art or feels to progreams. Dn't get me worng ...I agree we must feel for something when ice program is performed (be it in pairs, singles). However, unlike pairs or singles, ice dance still have to work harder to acknowledge that whose/what technique is still better executed. Or that more points awarded to challenging lifts or moves on top of overall, perforamnce. Alas, fans of course will argue, that even technique or executed skills are still subjective. So we can't win in this ...

    2. No sport gives medals based on feelings. Hence ice dance is not a sport.

      Delete
    3. Ice Dance is a sport. It's the judging and the ISU that's the problem

      Delete
    4. The judges have been giving scores and medals based on "feelings" rather than execution since ice dance became an Olympic sport. It has only gotten worse in the last few seasons. The scores awarded to P/C are evidence of this trend. While other teams get reamed for the smallest perceived mistakes, P/C can glide on their knees and the judges would shower them with positive GOEs and high levels.
