You're annoying people around you and being rude because you and your familiars will not shut the fuck up so people in your vicinity can watch the skating (typical, typical typical of everything you touch at Skate Canada. It's all about you. The skating is a vehicle to shove yourself into the spotlight). Most of what you say is heavy with misplaced snobbery, misfired pandering and finding yourself hilarious while everyone else thinks you're an ass in love with your own voice.
I realize this is typical of how you comport yourself both at competitions and practices going on forever now, but it's still fucking obnoxious.
Is this a warm-up for London? Is the idea to have as few locals attend as possible? Are you gonna be smarming it up so nobody watching in person or on live streams can avoid you?
Debbi Wilkes, Barb MacDonald, and previously, William Thompson, don't give a flying fuck about Skate Canada. That's why they're relaxed about the lack of sponsors. That's why they don't care about up and coming skaters, or making skating more appealing to the public (or this Debbi/Liz gig would have been shot down from the first). Or behaving like civil, professional partners with the city hosting Worlds in Canada. All Debbi cares about here is she has a captive audience to use figure skating as a pretext to show herself off.
Barb and Debbi's interest in Skate Canada reaches only as far as Skate Canada is a platform for self-promotion. As soon as the audience is there, we get fucking Debbi instead of the skating, or she poisons the experience for everyone by saturating it with her infatuation with the sound of her own voice. She's incapable of speaking in public as if we're not all two years old. Everyone says that. Ever wonder why? It's because that's the level of insight she has to share. If she aimed higher, she's disqualify herself.
She hasn't been a great representative for Canadian figure skating. She hasn't "done so much" for Canadian figure skating. She's harmed it.
She's a star-fucker, a politician (for her own advancement) and a media whore. I don't mean "in addition" to other stuff she does. That is ALL she does. Her insights at this competition are either announcing the obvious (because everyone is dim) or telling us about herself. She doesn't care that nobody cares. She's got a spotlight, and that's all that matters to her.

Jennifer ComeauxIt sucks live, Caroline.@LadyWave4
"@LynnRutherford: SC has enhanced the event by having Debbi Wilkes & Liz Manley offer insights after each skater.#SCI12" Too much yapping.
Caroline@CarolineJeanne
@LadyWave4@LynnRutherford Yeah, it's really weird and awkward. We can hear it on TV and it is uncomfortable. I can only imagine it live.

I swear to god, if I have to listen to Debbi Wilkes blither away at Nationals, I'm gonna open up a can of whoop ass.
JAMIE@_ohheyjamie
@AlexShibutani Can you take over the in-arena commentary?

Debbi wasted no time popping her eyes at the camera lens and telling us what we were thinking, which apparently was 'where did she come from' and then she did her patented shove-the-large-phallic-mike move and commanded "Tell us!"

sk8fun: Haven't had a chance to read through the threads but I'm sure there's talk about the commentators after every skate. They think they are funny and they are so very not. My daughter said if she was a skater and had to listen to that after a rough skate she'd probably walk over and smack them. That could be interesting to see.
Your daughter can still do that FOR the skaters, sk8fun! It would be way more of a public service than anything Debbi's doing.
And I'll bring this up from the comment section in the post below:
AnonymousOctober 26, 2012 8:08 PMWas at the event tonight and would rather kill myself than listen to her "conversation" with Liz Manley between the skaters, it really took away from the event. Is this common at other competitions? A good number of the SC delegation plopped themselves down near where I was sitting toward the end of the night in time for VM and did not stop talking
Yes, it does take away from the event, Anon. Most everything she does turns people off. She does not care. Debbi is for Debbi. She's not for making a good experience for anyone but Debbi. This is a woman desperate for any spotlight, and as for some reason she seems to feel she needs to steer clear of skatebuzz and not shove her mug into other people's camera frames, or make herself the focus of other people's interviews, or conduct on camera conversations with people even more uninteresting than herself, as has been her past practice, she has turned to this. If this ends up getting shot down she'll find something else. This is All she cares about.
My question is how this was allowed to pass Skate Canada scrutiny? This is an important INTERNATIONAL event for Skate Canada. This kind of thing shows how little they take into account both the promotional/marketability side of things and the skaters own feelings. It also looks like no one has the authority to tell Ms. Wilkes that all her various plans to put herself out there are stupid and should be canned.
ReplyDeleteWhose scrutiny? Benoit? If Thompson were there he'd be up her ass. Debbi IS Skate Canada. She's going to pass her own scrutiny every time. Everybody else doesn't care enough, so Debbi makes the most of it for herself.
DeleteShe was even worse tonight...Sounded like she and liz were trying to score a couple more free nights at ceasars, maybe some extra comps for the buffet or a show too.
DeleteSkating was gorgeous tonight though it appears tessa might be sick. She missed most of the medal presentation
