When Scott and Tessa are walking with the reporter, they lowball the odds of being recognized. Seems like they've called it accurately, but still they attempt to walk separately. The reporter says they're not recognized save for some side-eyes, which Scott says don't count (why not - does Scott only count fans who come at him or Tessa with a blindside tackle? How many of those does he meet?). I'm curious why he and Tessa are confident they won't be recognized yet Scott keeps his hands in his pockets for fear of bumping into somebody and being recognized. Scott. You think the chances are slim or you need to jam your hands in your pockets to avoid being recognized, not both.
My first thought - he imagines that whomever he might 'bump into' will not be one of the polite side-eyes but obnoxious and needy. So? What's the worst down side of occasionally being recognized? If they're recognized on occasion while together - what damage is done?
Jessica Dube is the "girlfriend" the Moirs and Virtues paraded down Main Street in a buggy, next to Scott's mom. Jessica is always an unnamed, semi-abstract "girlfriend" to the mainstream media, yet the fact of her being on the same team, a pairs skater and semi-famous in her own right opens up new angles on the Virtue/Moir story. Somehow though the legit media knows not to touch it by name. Not when interviewing the loquacious Jessica, not when interviewing Scott and Tessa. Why not? The Times was happy to name Tanith as Evan's ex .
As to Jessica, presumably, being demoted to former gf, what now changes? The following, IMO, are elements that are potentially part of the public takeaway on Virtue and Moir and their sham. It's not fans who "don't understand." Tessa and Scott are the ones who don't understand that:
1) It's a scam and a hoax, they've been proactive about misrepresenting the facts, and they've marketed their lying while sanctimoniously praising themselves for their genuine hometown kids personas at every turn. I believe SC thinks lying and cheese-eating bullshit is what marketing IS. It's not.
2) It's been a married man and father, someone we're told has religious faith, "making out" with another woman for a photographer and spamming social media with photos and other material conveying that he's having sex with this woman - and why? To make his lies convincing.
Both "1" and "2" might lead to unpleasant realizations about Scott and Tessa's true opinion of Canadian fans, and a concurrent realization that these self-styled humble figure skaters have an extraordinarily high opinion of themselves, in inverse proportion to their low opinion of the paying public.
"All of Canada was on the ice with us" is something they say repeatedly, failing to add it was a horrible sensation. It must have been. Look at them. To protect their special selves from the Canadian public, they made the strategic decision to systematically violate elementary standards of decency and respect.*
What they share must not be contaminated by fans. Furthermore, the public is too stupid to understand and respect their relationship. (I know - it's unprecedented!!) Ignore side-eyes and fans showing them courtesy - they don't count!
But then - how much are they really protecting for sensitivity/privacy reasons and how much is money/exploitation, control freak reasons?
ETA: Because I'm thinking - you know, the public, with their overinvestment in figure skating, their knitting, their needy, no-lives having - they might pay BIG for the now-it-can-be-told story of these fairy tale figure skaters, considering figure skating fans as a demo live dumpy love-and-sex-starved lives and live vicariously through the skaters. Right? How much do you think Scott and Tessa can make for themselves and maybe SC if they play it right?
Tessa repeatedly says they value their privacy - but here comes a documentary.Their book with "private" photos is gathering mold at clearance sales. Scott is repeatedly photographed with a digital camera but he can't share anything with fans, not from a rehearsal, a training camp, nothing. Privacy? Don't think so.
They have to earn a living.
To cover all these bases - the pious and the self-serving - what else could they have done but what they did and continue to do?
And how else would SC justify paying Barb and Debbi. Debbi isn't doing the job in her title. Barb is inept and pretty lazy as well as transparently overeager to get her face on camera, promote Barb and enjoy other perks of a relatively high-profile, low-show (when there's actual off-camera responsibilities on her plate) position.
Their opinion of "us" couldn't be more contemptuous.Their opinion of themselves couldn't be higher.
P.S. - I look forward to some of the usual suspects on fsu claiming they've "heard things" re why Scott now has a "former" girlfriend.

*A corrollary - babies. Casen Loosley and Quinn Moir. Plunk a baby in Jessica's arms. Better yet, plunk a fresh-baked newborn Moir, still in the maternity ward, in Jessica's arms and make it her profile photo concurrent with Alma's profile pic holding the same baby. The public will never believe the Moirs could be so vulgar or so blatantly mock the public's assumptions. That's what makes it perfect! Exploit the public's homegrown, parochial, bourgeois values. Those suckers. We're so slick, and unlike us, they're such rubes. What a way to mock the public's values and manipulate them to get a lie across. Christmas is the same deal. It's Christmas for God's sake!
While I'm glad to see them shut down the Jessica component of their lies, it's very disappointing that they have apparently decided to keep lying - basically new lies to cover up previous lies.
ReplyDeleteIt bothers me to see Tessa bringing up the issue of privacy when they were anything but on social media vis a vis girlfriends and boyfriends. And they obviously have not had a problem with the notion of a documentary crew following them around. Their idea of privacy seems to be quite manipulative.
Because it is. Everything they say about privacy is contradictory. They bet this reporter they won't be recognized, but they are. They get side-eyes from people who are obviously going about their business and not the sort to molest "famous" figure skaters. Well, they don't count! To guard against a fan that does count, Scott says he keeps his hands jammed in his pockets to avoid bumping into somebody and being recognized. Suppose he did bump into somebody and was recognized. What would happen?
DeleteHe's ridiculous. He had his hands in his pockets while walking with a reporter and Tessa - he and Tessa walked semi-apart before drifting back closer together. For what? The few that recognized them respected their space, they were on the job with a reporter so there was nothing incriminating and still they go through the pointless motions.
Scott has only once shared a candid of him and Tessa on his fan facebook, and that was directly after showing his ass. He hasn't repeated it and while his profile shots are him and Tessa, all are public domain. Yet the book they sold to fans was full of candids, Scott carries a digital point and shoot with him a lot, and currently they have a documentary crew following them around.
They're such nice "kids". Such good "kids". Everything they do is for the right reasons. Reasons being, fans are a nightmare they excuse themselves from coping with, even though fans aren't such a nightmare after all, are they? This whole thing is an exercise in grandiosity.
That was such a bizarre article! Maybe TS are that paranoid/confused about how the details of getting recognized works, but did it need to be recorded as a transcript?? fascinating. And what a horrible picture - I thought the whole thing was a photoshop creation rather than the halo addition alone until I found the article.
ReplyDeleteSo glad if the JD part is being phased out. Maybe Scott was inspired by your last post and said "your turn Tessa"! Suddenly no longer a great idea?? OC, what you see happening from here, are they going to stick with denying/hiding/disappearing from buses til Sochi or do you see a timeline of pre-Sochi gradual unveiling? Oh how I hope. The whole thing is seriously interfering with my enjoyment of them, now is the time for them to salvage their legacy.
And I have my popcorn all ready for the show when this blog's premise becomes undeniable, it will be so interesting to see how people try to backtrack. For now of course, if JD is no longer in the picture, it's either how distant TS seemed this season and how sad scott seemed at worlds OR how TS at Worlds look in love in a way they've never done before or for years or something. In the long run, I expect things along the line of what I call the "mothers in Jane Austen" defense. ie you will remember, how I mentioned that once that there was something about that guy that I didn't quite trust, but I of course knew all along that he was a scoundrel.
So, I'm just curious, what do YOU think their next move is going to be? Jessica's out of the picture now (maybe time to change the name of this blog...) and they seem to be less interested in hiding how much they adore each other.
ReplyDeleteI don't buy into what this blog says about them, I don't think they're hiding a marriage or baby but it's still interesting nonetheless. I'm just relieved to be finally done with Jessica. Kinda puts her flower throwing into perspective now.
Jessica wasn't throwing flowers because of Scott - she was never with Scott. This is her. There's no Bryce there to buck her up and it seems that Sebastien hasn't developed the same ability to get her to hide her sulks (the worst of her sulks) from the camera.
DeleteAt first I thought they x'd out Jessica because of the baby. But then I realized that's fan thinking. It's fans who're disgusted at the idea of a spouse and parent publicly pretending he/she is fucking somebody else. It's disgusting on so many levels, all of them sailing over the heads of Team Virtue Moir because they realize WE don't understand what pains in the ass WE are, we don't understand how awful it is to deal with us, how uncool we are, how ridiculous and stupid.
I think it had to do with the documentary. Jessica is on the same team. She was at every competition with them last season. It's likely to repeat next season (I'm sure they have to continue to jolly her along so she'll be discreet.). So how does the documentary not show something like a supportive girlfriend in the same sport on the same team at the same venue?
I think Scott and Tessa continue to market themselves as the most specialist special kids ever to lace up skates, in the most special romantic-but-platonic relationship that ever existed, and references to a former gf will pop up so we know Scott's not gay.
Speaking of references...do they not realize how obvious a plant the whole"jacket from his former girlfriend" is? Most people get rid of items from their ex's. If Scott wants any kind of privacy about his personal life he wouldn't go talking about his former girlfriend either. The jacket was a vehicle to bring up that point now that they have decided to axe the Jessica sham. I agree with the other commenter that I find my enjoyment of them cooling as I realize how dishonest they are being. There is no need for it. Just be real!
DeleteAnd he goes ahead and volunteers that Patrick Chan has more trouble or challenges or whatever with HIS love life than Scott does. WTF Scott. Way to stir the pot.
DeleteDo you have a link forthis interview?
ReplyDeletehttp://sports.nationalpost.com/2012/05/05/tessa-virtue-and-scott-moir-might-go-unrecognized-on-the-street-but-not-the-ice/
DeleteThey've done the book, the documentary is on the way. If this doesn't popularize them, why not go 180 and leak out a tastefully done sex tape? Problem solved! Scott will win the bet next time. Guaranteed to get more fans, even non-figure skating ones.
ReplyDeleteOh c'mon, most of us have been fantasizing about them having steamy, melt-the-rink-sex anyway as the next progression, from all that love they show on the ice which we feel we are intruding. If you tell me that this thought hasn't crossed our minds, then the fans are just as phony as the Jessica/Scott relationship.
"Jessica is the "girlfriend" the Moirs and Virtues paraded down Main Street in a buggy, next to Scott's mom. Mainstream media discretion isn't about privacy. Why is she always some nebulous "girlfriend" to the mainstream media when the fact of her being on the same team, a pairs skater, opens up new angles on the Virtue/Moir same-old same-old? The Times was happy to name Tanith as Evan's ex ."
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't the article name the "former girlfriend"? Because the former girlfriend is not Jessica.
We all know that Scott wears the same clothes all the time, especially when he has to appear before media, lol. The shirt he was wearing was almost definitely the same shirt he's wearing for the Canada AM interview. I'd bet you money the jacket was the black "velvet" one he always wears, especially because that's the type of jacket he'd wear over a button-down like that one.
You think Jessica would have bought him that jacket? Yeah right. A designer jacket like that has to be tailored. She'd either have had to know all his measurements, or they'd have gone together to the tailor to have it fitted properly. Tessa bought him that jacket, not Jessica. Besides, we all know the types of gifts Jessica gives him anyway (see old post by OC).
"Former girlfriend" gets the message they want across.
Well Tessa loves to shop - I'm sure she doesn't mind selecting "Scott"'s gifts for Jessica, nor deciding which items in Scott's wardrobe should be flagged as from Jessica.
DeleteOr is it word twisting...the jacket is from Tessa, his former girlfriend, who I now his wife.
DeleteDon't know, but you're thinking the way they think, that's for sure.
Deleteposted in wrong string....
ReplyDeleteseriously how do virtue moir pay for their lifestyle? i love them. they have what lots of people dream of, sorry it's true, a lifelong love and you know what, no one but a few can get it. it's rare, it's special, they know it, and will do whatever they can to protect it. have they gone over the line. yes, but that's what you do when you are a teenager or in your early 20s. you are an idiot. yes, they have acted in idiotic ways to protect themselves. it is a sword they may fall on. but they dont care. and i would not. if i had something so bizarre -bc regardless of davis/white being together just as long as TS- their lives are totally different, DW are a partnership of convenience. ts are different they are that one love story that people will always fantasize about. both gorgeous and talented and the BEST. i keep looking at the worlds and davis/white free dance, yes they are fast and they have good lifts and twizzles, but they have NO footwork, they just glide from one lift to one twizzle, and are totally boring. if the jessica dube thing was a total sham, thats nuts. but a kid and secret marrriage? that's a bit more nuts. also, these are kids. she's 22 and he is 24 and all this nonsense with dube started when he was 20. i dont know about you, im a pretty successful professional, and i was a total idiot at that age. this may be buyers remorse. this article seems like a sign of maturity and sign that --which is really refereshing in sports- that we will not whore relationship out. they really have not benefited $$$$. at least from what i see. minor endorsements. does skate canada pay their bills? tessa looks like a fashionista and scott looks like a small town boy pleasing his homecoming queen girlfriend. it's complete-they have accepted it. they are for each other and nooone else. i am sure dube tried to get him to like her for real instead for fake. maybe he did. maybe there is more youthful drama behind the scenes. and maybe a lot of regret for trying to protect themselves thru deceit or half-ass relationships. i do think dube came with some benefits that included more than just making out for scott-he is still a man/boy with serious hormones and machismo. i think tessa waited it out. was patient good girl. some episodes with other men bc she's human, to get scott jealous, and to figure herself out.
is it so contemptuous if they did participate in a farce forced on them -or at least suggested- by older people in canada skating organization that they trusted b/c of their youth, naivete etc? doesnt it look, from their performances/comments that they- THEY- are now taking control of their life? that they are wising up?
look at their extremely unique almost bizarre childhood and teenage years, how it worked out that they grew to be a perfect "pair"- and just appreciate it? that something like that, that we all dream about, having someone by your side who is yours entirely since youth? i think its rare, and they appreciate how lucky they have been. i dont think they are contemptuous. i think they are grateful and happy that all this good luck amidst struggle and intense hard work brought them a love story. a real one, a rare one.
at then end of the day you have yourself, and hopefully someone else, who will never leave you. theyre lucky, and good for them for acknowledging it. everyone on this site and their fans wishes same. thats why we write and think about them. not bc we want to be ice dancers but bc we want to find or have that person who is enough and forever. i hope they win the next olympics bc they deserve it. and i hope they get married and live happily ever after, bc we need to see that. i know i do. every generation needs a love story.
Do you think one of the factors in Jessica's demotion might have been her behavior in the kiss-and-cry in Nice?
ReplyDeleteWhatever Jessica may be, she's not Scott's type, nor is Tessa the wait it out kind of girl, not by a long shot. Jessica and Scott never had a thing. Tessa was always his girl.
DeleteI don't think Jessica's behavior in the Kiss'n'Cry had anything to do with Jessica's demotion. I think the documentary had something to do with it. I think their child also has something to do with it, because perhaps they've realized that the public wouldn't "understand" the sham in view of a child in the picture. I don't think this is something they've realized on their own, nor do I think the issues around the documentary is something they'd realize on their own. They are completely self-involved. They haven't suddenly realized what they're doing is shady, or an affront to decency and the existence of a child. They've simply realized WE might see it like that, as unsophisticated as we fan types are.
Jessica is Jessica. Scott is not a fan of hiding out, of pretending to love anyone but Tessa, but if his fake significant other were someone not Jessica it would be easier, no doubt. She is the opposite of everything he values and respects. Tessa is a beautiful girl, no question. But if she weren't everything else she is - smart, talented, an incredible athlete and figure skating talent, reliable, tough as nails, independent, resilient, able to handle criticism, able to come through in the clutch time after time - he wouldn't love her. She's beautiful, so it's easy to say - oh that's what it is. But, there are quite a few beautiful girls in figure skating and Scott is blind to those girls. She's his type. He likes the beautiful, clean-cut, smart, mature-for-their-age, low drama, high common sense, self-reliant type (look at his supposed 'crushes' - Reese Witherspoon and Carrie Underwood).
How the hell do you know this ^ (his type, that is?)
DeleteLet's put it another way.V/M are clever, the people around them are clever. They read this blog, and understood that the whole Jessica thing has to end soon because nobody buys it. Even if they are already a couple, this means they've been lying for years and this is total disrespect to their fans.So now, they're trying to cover up their lies, with another lie.The hope of them getting together.
ReplyDeleteThey're not the first to do it though.W/P are together, and pretend to be platonic.I don't believe for once that all these teams do it for privacy. The "are they aren't they" helps thei appeal to fans,a mystery is always better than the truth that ultimately becomes boring. So what, they're together, fans are happy, and soon enough everybody forgets about it.
Have you ever wondered how many dance couples are really together and swear to God that they don't spend time together off ice?How many of them present fake bf or gf to hide the true ones?Food for thought.Volosozhar/Trankov are together but V still pretends that she's with Morosov. Ilinykh sleeps with her coach but still have fans wondering.A certain married ice dancer has stopped wearing his wedding ring for months, changed his FB status, but is supposedly still married although he started talking about how little time he spends with his partner.Fake boyfriends and girlfriends were and always will be in the agenda.Tessa and Scott aren't different than anyone else, but that doesn't make them less liars.
Blue balls as a marketing strategy aimed as (what SC presumes) are sex-starved fans would be right up Debs & Co.'s alley, and it sure seems like that scheme has become policy. They're all a bunch of freaks.
DeleteIs it confirmed that V/T are together? Or as confirmed as it can be if it's not official? It's hard to beat TS for post-skate PDA, but they certainly did after Worlds FS. Wondered about it but thought they might just be European, there seems to be more platonic kissing.
DeleteWhat I'll never get is why T and S don't realize they'd actually have more privacy if they came out and said they were a couple. Nobody wants to intrude on a legit couple having couple time. They could make out on center ice and people would just say "aww, isn't that cute," and then leave them the hell alone.
ReplyDeleteBut then they wouldn't be special and unique! They enjoy their self-invented, imaginary predicament. What would Debbi and Barb do for a job if Scott and Tessa were managed by professionals experienced in handling the public relations of figure skaters far more famous and recognizeable than Scott and Tessa, professionals with simple and efficient ways to handle the inevitable intrusive outliers that plague every semi-public figure? What would their families do during the skating season - the parents, aunts, uncles, siblings, SO's and cousins? How would they be so graciously important?
DeleteThis is an imaginary "problem" - the unique and special is an inflated invention - it's all made up. But, it makes them special. After all, they don't attend a well regarded university, they speak no foreign languages, they're AWOL when high profile charitable initiatives are in the offing, their entire lives are figure skating and considering themselves extremely special off ice too. They cling to it. Obviously, that's a conceit they're reluctant to relinquish. It's self-important - for example, every single thing Scott says about himself and the press/fans from walking with his hands in his pocket to figuring out how to talk on the ice so his lips can't be read - emanates self-importance. Everybody's looking at Scott! It's so serious!
He's strategized a way, he thinks, to get the drop on the media and fans because if he wasn't one step ahead - GOD FORBID.
They don't want to be left alone, IMO. They like the game. It's validates their sense of themselves.
"It's all figure skating with them. They don't speak other languages, play a musical intrument in earnest, get involved with high profile charitable endeavors, attend a highly regarded university, nor are they managed by a company with years of experience managing figure skaters a whole lot more famous and recognizeable than they are. "
ReplyDeleteThis I know is not true. Just because they don't have the same lives as Davis and White doesn't mean it's only figure skating with them.
They move the way they do on the ice because they've taken dance training in earnest. The Special Olympics and the Audi Best Buddies Challenge are most definitely high profile charitable endeavors. The University of Windsor is not the joke you're trying to make it out to be, and frankly, nobody in the real world will give a damn whether Tessa takes 5 years, 10 years, or 15 years to finish her college degree. A degree is a degree, and most law schools would love to take her if that's what she chooses.
Yeah, they haven't signed with IMG. Why should they spend a huge chunk of money on an IMG agent when they don't need to? They're doing just fine without one. Got the gold medals, the invites to shows, all the money they need, and are loved by all their fans (except for you and the 5 other fans who say they hate them on this board). Could they be doing better with an IMG agent? Maybe. But after reading that NYT article about Davis and White, I'm thinking maybe not.
Anon 6:28
DeleteI didn't see where anyone on this blog cared how many years it takes Tessa to finish a degree. The comments were related to what Tessa was implying about her "separate life" from Scott and I don't remember that the years of study were the issue. I also take issue with your assumption that anyone hates Tessa and Scott. People here are upset at the way V/M have handled certain things but I'm not seeing any personal hate toward them. On the contrary.
You may think they're doing just fine without a professional management company but I would say that in spite of the successes you mention, like medals and shows, they aren't doing well in the sponsorship area. And any celebrity sports' team without a working website or presence on social media is obviously seriously lacking in the PR area. (Scott's "official" page doesn't count - they're a TEAM - Tessa isn't represented, and his sporadic activity is not any kind of professional fan outreach.) If this is exactly how they want things to be, then fine. But they are not functioning like a team that has the backing of skilled advise and/or management.
However, I do agree that IMG might not be the solution, either. That NYT article about D/W was an eye-opener and I don't think IMG is doing that well on behalf of D/W. Maybe V/M did decide that they could do better than what they're seeing IMG do for their fellow skaters, who knows. But whatever they're doing isn't really working and I do wish they would get competent management, not necessarily IMG.
Windsor University is a low-ranked, low regarded school. For those in the area who have no other resources, sure, that college is better than no college, but among universities, it's a pit. Tessa, moreover, is not in pre-law. But yes, I'm sure Windsor Law would love to have her even if she took 25 years to get her undergrad, just as a few other schools would credit her skating experience as an achievement indicator and open the door to their graduate program. Brooke Shields got into Brown undergrad - many schools undergraduate and graduate have a kind-hearted admissions policy towards celebrities and if she ever does go through law school Tessa is not likely to apply to a competitive program.
DeleteThey are misrepresenting the facts of their lives in every interview. This is the choice that impacts their sponsorship and management options. Yes, they could get more sponsors and upgrade to better management, but the price would be telling the truth and they consider that too high, and what a surprise that not as many corporations as they or Skate Canada anticipated consider outright lying to the public's face a legitimate marketing approach. To be sure, Barb and Debbi and Bill and Mike think this is what marketing IS. It's how the big boys play isn't it? No it's not. They have a reputation to protect.
Furthermore their entire public relations strategy is nothing but a stage play they put on for the gratification of their own vanity and inflated sense of importance. Scott has made more than one reference to the various ploys he's proud of to prevent the media or fans from knowing what he says or does (seriously - what for?) and they both say they can go under the radar at will. They have taken extreme and even grotesque and offensive measures to hide their relationship status, and yet they're not even consistent with that - at other times they make it quite obvious in front of fans that their lives are shared and they're together, not bothering with strategems, and some of the so-called "dedicated" long term fans are well aware of Scott and Tessa's relationship and current family situation. The rationale for what they're doing is imaginary at this point. There is no reality-based one. It's an ego exercise. Plenty of married celebrities have sensibly balanced the married piece with the privacy piece when it comes to maintaining a connection with the public and when it comes to endorsements.
The mystery is why Scott and Tessa listened to Skate Canada - perhaps because they wanted Skate Canada to benefit from their celebrity - it's their way of giving back. And how well it's worked - Skate Canada's sponsors have all run away right after the Olympics - how did that happen when the USFSA has high profile sponsors up the ying yang even as figure skating can't even get reliable airing on U.S. network television? What's scaring high profile brands away from an association with Skate Canada? Why did loyal sponsors beat a fast retreat after the Olympics after sticking around for 3 previous Olympic cycles?
Skate Canada hasn't benefitted from being the architects of Tessa and Scott's marketing scheme, and neither have Scott and Tessa. How a couple of figure skaters smart enough to go to Marina and Igor for coaching thought Debbi Wilkes and the obnoxious and alienating Bill Thompson would be just fine as pr guides is mystifying only until you realize Scott and Tessa respect figure skating but have no respect for the public. Figure skating requires the best coaches. Public relations - well, we're talking the Canadian public here. Anyone with half a brain can pull one over on them, and have fun doing it!
P.S. - Scott obviously thinks he's got some clever ideas to fool the public. He thinks he's just great at it, even when he turns around and sabotages it when he's in the mood.
DeleteThey don't believe (clearly) that professionalism is necessary, nor is it something they believe the public deserves.
I misspoke that Skate Canada hasn't benefitted - the organization has not, but Debbi, Bill and Barb most certainly have benefitted - it's their personal self-promotional showcase. Their mismanagement has been a debacle for the organization but a net plus for their self-promotion.
Delete"I didn't see where anyone on this blog cared how many years it takes Tessa to finish a degree. The comments were related to what Tessa was implying about her "separate life" from Scott and I don't remember that the years of study were the issue."
ReplyDeleteSee OC's blog post: http://dubemoir.blogspot.com/2012/02/its-only-kind-of-lying.html
That was about her using school to misrepresent the time she spends apart from Scott. She is manipulating her sporadic attendance at school to paint a false portrait of her life off ice. The reality is she's taking 5 years to complete half of a 3 year psychology course at a shitty school (which it is), so school is not the priority she pretends it is. It's just one more thing she's recruiting to present a false front to the public. And THAT was the point of the school post.
Delete"You may think they're doing just fine without a professional management company but I would say that in spite of the successes you mention, like medals and shows, they aren't doing well in the sponsorship area. ReplyDeleteIf V/M wanted more sponsors, a working website, or better PR, then they'd get them. The same way they moved to Zoueva/Shpilband when they wanted to move up in the ice dance world. They don't want them. They must think they're doing fine as it is. Who are you to say they aren't doing well in certain areas?
Did they change their minds about Roots or did Roots change their minds about them?
DeleteActually, they do want to capitalize on business opportunities but are obviously hamstrung. Not every sponsor is going to take on board a pair that is lying as proactively as they. I suspect this is why Roots went down the toilet, when Roots realized there would be no coming out until after Sochi.
Yes, where they are now is a product of the choices they have made, but no, if they wanted better management and more high profile endorsements they'd need to deal with the sham, as most corporations don't want to align themselves with blatant misrepresentation of the facts. However, VM are committed the the hoax they've perpetuated, which pretty much at this point serves only their egos and that of Skate Canada, and their pride.
There's a price, IOW, to better opportunities that they feel is too high. I.e., the truth.
I absolutely agree about Roots. If they did the deal with them claiming they are one thing, and turned out to be another,of course ROOTS didn't want them anymore.
ReplyDeleteOr if Roots had the expectation that Tessa and Scott were going to "come out" soon and then reneged, that's something that leads to a parting of the ways. It's been observed that Tessa and Scott appeared to be laying the groundwork to come out and I know that there are people around them who thought it was a strong possibility. Then it was off the table - possibly when the pregnancy timing worked out perfectly.
DeleteA company doesn't want to employ a couple of fresh-faced, genuine Canadian kids who turn out to be frauds, especially not a homegrown, "Canadian values" image brand like Roots. Because that throws a bad light on the product and the company. If Scott and Tessa are misrepresenting the facts in the process of marketing themselves, is Roots misrepresenting anything while marketing its product? Nobody wants that taint. I wonder also if some of this isn't why there are corporations who won't go near Skate Canada with a ten-foot pole. Their biggest stars are running a scam on the public. Relationship denials and sham romances are one thing. Actually pretending fiction is fact and then charging for the fiction is another story, so to speak.
P.S. this was around the time there was winking going on in the press. One article led off with "Scott Moir has cut the cord." Roots smirked that it had entered into a four year "engagement" with Scott and Tessa. So many of the outlets marketing this shit to us already know the basics of this story but, remember, they media is selling product too (there's a Bill Moyers quote on this blog that says news is what's hidden and everything else is publicity). The media is not on our side, they're a delivery system for product and promotion. They want viewer hits. To do that, they need access to the product, which means celebs, athletes etc. Only politicians have to be careful about limiting access due to reporting that they don't like. Athletes and celebs can do what they want.
DeleteOne of the biggest eye-rolls to me always was NBC ignoring the entire Jessica element even though she was front and center and in our face and had competed herself days before, AND was the face slash girl AND was, on social media, dating Scott Moir AND had dated her partner (which Sandra Bezic noted in her commentary - omitting the Moir piece of it). NBC comments in the first person. They can't flash and Jessica and i.d. her as the girlfriend when they know better. So they ignored it.
And if so - if Scott and Tessa's aggressive lying campaign is scaring off sponsors that doesn't just hurt the public, it hurts the other figure skaters, particularly those who aren't as independently comfortable, financially, as Scott and Tessa. Scott and Tessa can afford their lies but it's unlikely the other figure skaters can afford Scott and Tessa's lies, but if it's scaring off sponsors they are the ones paying for it. Scott and Tessa are fine.
Delete"What a way to mock the public's values and manipulate them to get a lie across. Christmas is the same deal. It's Christmas for God's sake!"
ReplyDeleteI was especially disgusted with Alma's public Christmas album, where they played up Jessica receiving that Tiffany key necklace. It's not just the Christmas holiday itself that is held as one of the most special family holidays of the year, but it's also traditionally a time to give that one special, sentimental gift to a loved one. The Moirs, and Scott and Jessica, mocked that. They knew exactly what that kind of gift, given on that particular holiday, was supposed to represent. I thought that whole charade was particularly malicious.
What I find nasty, particularly in hindsight, is that Tessa and Scott won the Olympics and won Worlds and not a fucking thing from Alma or Scott's facebook despite the fact that Scott was sweeping in dozens of fans at a clip - fans/strangers. Who made friend requests hoping to see some Virtue Moir stuff. Even a simple candid from a public occasion from Scott's own camera would have been a thrill. But nope.
Delete"Monaco!" got headlined on her public wall and prior to that "Moir Rock Band Xmas!!" so we could all see what they pretended was Scott's private life.
I remember thinking well, they're protecting the sham. But they allowed Jessica Dube to put up an album from the Olympics that had her and Bryce all over it, and her family with Bryce's family, and Scott there only as sort of visual lip service, and clearly the Moirs and Virtues had given that the green light. So, protecting the sham isn't really why neither Alma nor Scott put up an Olympic photo (other Moirs did but they were of the family members sitting around - as uninteresting as the facebook owner could make them and although it was Scott's Olympics, there wasn't a single photo of Tessa.). Which is why I have begun to realize that not only are they lying their faces off, they hope for a windfall from their lies down the road when they break out the stuff that was hiding behind the hoax. I can't wait to see that - hi, we made fools of you all! But if you dig into your wallets, we'll show you some of what was really going on all that time!!
Good, good kids.

ReplyDeleteI'm remembering other "private" albums that got shared on public walls, like TEB Paris 2009. An important Grand Prix event because it was heading into the Olympics, and what do the fans get? Not a single picture with Tessa (weren't Scott and Tessa there to compete as a team?) but a whole album of photos of Scott and Jessica and both sets of parents touring Paris. What was hilarious was that Scott didn't manage to look happy in a single one of those photos, in spite of being in Romantic Paree with his amoreux.
They really were maliciously calculating. And hindsight only makes it look worse.
